Is it advisable to tie a monoline to yur braided line? Currently my set up is 30lb xzoga black buster 3 meter as leader connected to power pro 20lb braided line moss green.
What type of fishing are you doing ? - it will vary e.g. if casting a lot ( like in going for haruans ), I don’t like the knot catching on the rings so I limit myself to about 3 feet of leader at the most.
Fishing in the sea, especially trolling, then a 2 - 3 meter leader is no problem. See - it depends. [:)]
okey..bro..its purely depend on you…braid last for very long time…mono is very flexible..braid cost a bom (good one’s)…mono is cheap…i got 2400 yards of Sufix ulta knot, 6 paun..at 75% off for about rm18 on sale…that means as the mono line go thru beatings..i can change as often i want..in another word..the 2400 yards could last me as the braided line…then again..braid is more stronger ,hard to break…so..the solution…buy both…test it yourselves and you decide man…

RK…I think you r a little off the topic man.</font id=“purple”>
1C1F…3m leader?..i presume that you are into saltwater/seafishing…I do that. The use of the mono line acts as a shockleader…as braided lines have little or no stretch…meaning the chances of lines snap is higher if you happen to get a strong pulling fish</font id=“purple”>
Ahh..tats a relief, any im just doing lure castin for toman n sebarau..actually to think of it 3 meters really long, however im jus prepare for those snags where braided line tend to be not resistant to abrasions..maybe i shud cut down to 2 meters of monoline..
2 meters will mean that you may still have to pass your knot through some of the guides / rings - you may want to try the FG knot if you have the patience - if not, the easier Albright - but trim the mono at an angle to lessen the impact on the rings.
The mono leader has another advantage over the braid - mono is smoother and more slippery - unlike braid that tends to cut and lodge into into the obstacles underwater.
learn fg knot from youtube, i learn it there in less than 5 min and perfected(i mean can type quickly and can works lah) in less than 5 days. it’s real simple with normal vision
usually i tie mine between 1-2m long, never measure so dunno but about there, just a rough guess… fishing no need to be tat difficult
Novice angler here, any constructive advices greatly appreciated. Thank you
I need to report this matter..as mentioned in my topic earlier regarding using monoline as leader, I was using Xzoga black buster 30lbs line as leader and it break hauling up pacu around 1.5kg…
My guess is that is that the line cant stand the abrassion from the fish mouth..Changed my leader to 20lbs cap ayam leader line then wolah!! No issue at all in retrieving the fish..
you really need a long leader if you fish for really big fish..
where you need to find frays and knicks on your line…cut them as
you put new hook and bait or you change a lure a lot without using a snap…
it’s just my useless opinion…ignored if you please..
OCOF,
I think for pacu, even wire have risk of being bitten off. Like the pacu in Angler’s Lounge, even wire dont stand a chance. Most of them are under 3kg. Small but fierce
Sometimes when it is hooked to the lip of the pacu, then the leader is safe because their razor teeth can’t touch our leader as long as we maintain tension. But if the hook is swallow deep in the mouth, then most of the time our leader will be bitten off. Whenever I land a pacu in Angler’s Lounge, I will check if there are hooks deep in the mouth. And many times I can find those hooks. But I have never seen hooks left on the lips with broker leader.
I think it is not because of quality of leader line if you are referring to pacu. More because of where the hook was set around the mouth. Just my 2 sen’s guess
For pacu I use a swivel for the hook, or long shank hooks. Tried circle hooks, it helps but not as reliable as the swivel and long shank hooks
just to add a bit on my experience wit pacu’s… u dont necessarily need to use proper fluorocarbon leaders to ensure landing… i have been using a cheap 20lb & 40lb mono (less then RM5) for my leader at Laguna where i believe this incidents happened to u… so far i have not had a single pacu manage to bite my line off… my advice is if ur using mono for a leader to fish for pacu then get the cap ayam type which is thick and not very soft… more expensive mono’s tend to be thinner and softer thus easier for the pacu’s to bite it off… save those for use as ur mainline and just use the cheap thick and hard lines as ur leader… for extra safety u can use long shank hooks or swivels like Weng said…
pacu problem again???
never fish pacu…prevent bust off by
tying nonslip loop knot…then just make a few turns
which you made for the last part of FG knot…
finish off with few turns of half hitch…
you’ll see the winding curve of the mono…
just my useless opinion…ignorance is most welcome…
