(Trip was on 20-22 Sep 2010)
BSR-Day1: An introduction…
“We will setup 3 rods, all on float”, thus was the instruction from sifu to John.
“This is a warm-up session (for the newbies) before we fight the titans tomorrow”, reason the old sage.
Little did he know how wrong he was going to be!
Now, catching fish in BSR is a given. After all, they are willing to refund your fishing fees if you did not managed to get any fish.
If you’ve only been fishing in pay-ponds in Klang Valley (like me), you’ll be in for a pleasant surprise. Even the smaller fishes (i.e. less than 10kg) gives a terriffic fight.

We quickly unpack all the necessary gear and eagerly awaits the first strike.
Lo and behold! Less than 5 minutes after the first cast, there was a double-hookup.

Sifu’s gear:Abu Hornet Stinger 8-20lb paired with Penn Sargus (10lb-braid)
Yong’s gear:Abu Conlon PE1-3 paired with Tica Taurus 4500 (20lb-braid)
Yong’s first trip to BSR and he’s getting his money’s worth.

Look at that big smile. Landed his first plabuk (estimated to be 17kg)

Next, it was my turn to experience the fight of a plabuk. Battle gear was: Custom Rod (PE5) paired with Daiwa Freams 4500J (50lb-braid).
For a first-timer here, it was an awesome fight.

About 10-minutes later, the fish was landed (estimated at 17-18kg)

After the initial euphoria, there were more landings but we did not bother to take photos of the fish as it was deemed ‘too small’ (i.e. anything less than 20kg is considered small in BSR!!!)
Taking a lunch break before the battle continues.

Fish on!! A panoramic view of the battle field.

Sifu being the sifu that he is (and a little MAD, some may say…), fighting a fish on his light gear (successfully landed, of course).

Another pla buk giving me some exercise!

Yong with another fish worthy of being photograph.
(estimated at 22 kg).

Look at the bend on the PE5 rod. These are strong fighters.

“Enough of float-fishing. Lets go for the biggies!”
Big bait for big fish.

Sifu’s triumph! 30kg plabuk landed on 10lb line. The Hornet Stinger (2-piece) stands up to the challenge.

Yong with another photo-worthy fish.

Next challenge for sifu, 6lb line (who’s the MAD one here, eh?..)
Setup is Tica Devil Stix 6-12lb pair with Abu Salty Stage (6lb braid). Look at the bend on the rod.

And he lands a 20kg plabuk after a titanic battle(about 30 minutes) that left him exhausted.

At the same time, Yong (background) is battling his titan. Unbeknownst to all, five minutes from now, the reel on the platform rigged for bottom fishing will scream…taken by a 25kg Siamese Black Carp…fought by sifu.
After a frantic battle, two biggies were landed one after the other. Yong with his 65kg plabuk and sifu with his Black Carp.

What an introduction to Day 1! It was literally one cast, one fish.
We decided to call it a day after the biggies were landed. Time for some massage to sooth away the aching muscles.
(Day 2 coming soon…)
