As far I know, it is very few charter service available for an inshore light tackle enthusiast. Most of charter service for saltwater fishing available throughout Malaysia is a slow and heavy wooden boat that was transformed from commercial fishing vessels. In exception of Rompin waters, numerous fast and modern fibreglasses boats from local manufacturer is available catering for weekends fishing but none of them offering a charter service focusing on casting around the island.
Casting around surface breaking water at the island is an ultimate fun especially with light tackle.
Here is a story about Pulau Sembilan Safari.
For two repeating weekends, I had a chance exploring Pulau Sembilan, a group of islands near Lumut, Perak that hold baby GTs using light tackle outfits.
The first trip was amusing. Although we had very little time in an hour tossing lures and streamer due to the rest of the team only interested in bottom fishing (so much time was wasted soaking bait without a bite), we were awarded with some amount of GT inclusive the bluefin trevally.
The second trip is much fun as we had enough time to explore all the islands, spending full time casting all kind of lures towards the rocky edge of the islands.
Some of us lost our lures to the mighty baby GT. Mine especially, running out of streamer until I had to tie some during the lunch break due to frequent break-off due to line cut, nick and heavy abrasion from the barnacles, sharp rock and coral plus tail slapping from the baby GTs.
GT in particular does not so choosy about the lure selection. We use conventional lure casting using hardbaits such as Rattlin Rapala, normal crankbait and even the spin-fly technique attaching bulu² in a shape of streamer.
OK, about the charter service.
The jetty was located at Kg. Permatang, near the power station in Sri Manjung, not far from Lumut, Perak.
Currently there is one unit 28-footer fiberglass boat manufactured by YP Marine, powered with single 70hp Suzuki 4-stroke. The other one is 25-footer, also a fiberglass boat manufactured by YP Marine fixed with single 100hp 2-stroke Selva outboard engine.
Both boats have integrated marine electronics GPS/sonar installed and live well. The journey only takes about half an hour from jetty to reach Pulau Sembilan in good weather.
The charter service also offering two cabins that can accommodate 5 person each to get proper rest before and after the fishing trip, sure comfort with basic beds and air-conditioner. Not to forget about bathroom and toilet facility. Food outlets also within vicinity.
Currently only one boat is operative since the 25-footer in under repair which does not take so long.
Recommended outfits is spinning reel in size 1000 to 3000 spooled with minimum 100m. Rods can vary depending from your preferences, but anything within 8-17lbs, 12-20 or 10-25lbs is just fine. Lures is up to you coz uglee flies oso work down here!
