Grand Master,
What difference would the various shape of lips make; eg, square lips, rounded edges, etc

RR,
Square Lips, lure swim squarish. Rounded Edges, Lure swims in circle and so forth.
/e Runs behind the rock and hide from all the Sifus around.
Hahahahah lol, just kidding.
Here is an article that will help you.

square lips- faster therefore easier to make lohhh
round lips - more time consuming lohhhhhh
hehehehheheheh

The link Cheese posted would be a great starting point. Subject is too wide and it involves other factors such as line tie position, body shape etc etc.
Think about what a lip is for and what happens when a rounded edge hits an obstale compared to a squarish edge. This should get u on the right track. Function follows form & form determines function [:D]

nice article cheesehead, thks for the info

Many thanks to cheesehead. Highly informative and just about answers my questions.

Will it make a difference if the line tie is horizontal instead of vertical.
If vertical, there is always a chance of the line riding up on the loop thus making the swimming action inconsistant.
Will this problem be arrested if the line tie is horizontal; eliminating space for the knot to slip upwards?

Grand Master,
Another question: Will the position of the line tie situated ON the lip make any difference in the swim or depth reached?
If it does, what is the rule of thumb to follow?

Wah lau this is really a questions questios thread LOL.
Breifly horizontal vs vertical line tie. Normal cranks vertical, topwater horizontal if u want cause that gives more side to side free play wihich the lures require.
If ur lure swimming action is so sensitive that line riding up on to the top of a vertical line tie as oppose to midway then maybe u should experiment & see if ur line tie position is optimal, it could require repositioning. Or the weighting or balance of lure is not perfect.
Call me about the line tie position on lip, too complicated to type here, lazy liao. Got WorldCup matches to watch LOL.

diving deeper into the poison [:D]
for deep diver
line tie is ON the lip to prevent the lure from ‘rolling’
the longer the lip - the deeper it dives
the line tie position ON the lip also affect the depth of the dive
hope this helps

Yee See Heng,
The question is whereabout on the lip is the optimum position. Too much to the front of the lip would produce different results then at the rear or centre of the lip.
BTW, congratulations are in order as Tai see Heng FT is going nto “secluded training” (Pai Kwan in Cantonese.) Now is the chance for you to sit on the first chair after Grand Master![:D]

line tie shld be on about 2/3 front of the lip
too far front or too rear might coz the lure to roll
action is still v much dictate by the shape of lip n lure
in this community, we all sit on the floor passing the peace pipe around
with maybe the exception of Grand Master having an extra puff n a large mug of kopi-o-kau2 [:D]

R we talking 2/3 towards the front of the lip here?
So, I presume a rounded edge lip would be optimum as compared to one that is polygonal in shape?

yap, if the lip is 50mm long, then the line tie i’ll put it at somewhere about 30-35mm from the ‘nose’, it shld dive to around 3-5’ dp
my observation r :
round lip - wriggle
square lip - wobble
wider lip - higher frequency of wriggle/wobble
make a few different lip design n test out the swimming action
shld be easier for u as u hv a pond to test yr lure
me, hv to go all the way to subang pond to test
hope this helps

thks 4 d offer but no more space
been spending hours watching how fishes actually swim
and toying with some idea how to mimic the action
aiyah, aquarium also become ‘Poison’ [8D][:D]

ooh, forgot to mention this new poison is inspired by LP

Your 2’0" aquarium does not do justice as to the fish’s swimming action! You need to see how and why a fish is spooked and it’s reaction!
And what about the feeding pattern? What pushes it to strike at it’s prey and from what angle?
What about pack hunting like the Sebbies? What is their usual ambush pattern?
With a 4’ 0" tank (with stand FOC) you can observe all this! [;)]
