swivel wif or without ball bearing?

Dear all,

At a recent lure castin trip i have used swivel without a ball bearing, i.e. where u jus tie yur line to the swivel..n i realise tat when i crank bak my yozuri minnow red head, it dont tend to swim correctly..tried various speeds n da result is the same..Question is;

  1. I suspected it was due to none ball bearing, hence there is a line twist during retrive, am I correct?

  2. Tat it was the split ring attached to the lure, which i haf google it and it seems it is not true?

Hence; I would like to seek your advise..Wat do u guys think..

Thanks again

To fish or not to fish, tat is da question

never had tis problem b4…accept if using spoon without ball bearing surely will make the line twist…try tune the bib by bending it right if it swims left & t other way around…

The best way to attach small lure (plug type)to main line is by using rapala knot or the knot that similar to that knot. Using smaller main line also will help. We are tend to use swivel because it make easier to change lure but attaching big swivel to small plugs/lures will make it swim incorrectly especially a shallow runner.

Bro, the barrel is the swivel… the snap is another thing, i don;t think u could attach swivel directly to the lure or else i really wan tat pcs of swivel hahah

anyway, the swivel is the barrel thingy tat can turn 360 degree over and over again, the snap is metal thingy which can open or close to accept and remove your lure

i use small snap(size 00, 0 or 1) for all my luring trip and i dont have trouble with the swimming action as they’re really small… but on bigger snap yes they might affect the lure action especially the bigger and heavier ones on small lures.

if u r using a small snap, most probably ur lure is out of tune. simply use a plier and correct it by bending the lure’s wire(the part where u tie the line to the lure which have or have no split ring there), as what seaweed bro told. second is ur snap is not rounded enough(the haruan hunter type snap for using frog bait is one example of a not rounded-end snap)

n good luck

Novice angler here, any constructive advices greatly appreciated. Thank you

Guys..I camebak from the tackle shop n i ask the boss abt a top water lures from surecatch..I also lamented to him abt my earlier problem.

bro. pls read again tjs’s comments..
he made it reasonably easy to understand what a snap is n what a swivel is…

personally, i use a snap without the swivel all the time, except when using spoons or spinners.
using the snap alone gives better action to your lures, especially when u’re talking about small lures.

if your yozuri minnow or any other harbodied lure doesn’t swim well with just the snap (without the swivel) on, then (1)your lure probably needs tuning… or (2)the snap u’re using is too big (extra weight that throws off the action of the lure).

if still can’t understand which part is giving u problem, use a rapala knot n tie your leader straight to your lure. that will tell u if it’s the snap or the lure itself that’s giving u the problem.

P.S. a lot of tackle shop owners r great n experienced anglers, but some of them r not. so what the tackle shop owner says might not be right sometimes. fyi, many tackle shop owners have not fished for years/decades or r not much into fishing anyway. but they sure talk with a lot of confidence.

at the end of the day, after enough experimentation, u’ll get it right la. just go out n fish. hehe.

Okie..thanks for the advice yarr..

Thats a problem if you are using spinning reel. If you are using a baitcaster it won’t be a problem as the line is reeled in straight into the spool. If you are using a spinning reel it is almost a must to use a swivel as the lure especially crankbaits will pull hard on your line when your spool is revolving causing line twists.
