Are haruan anglers a bit !@#$%^&*?

Still have a lot of place to fish over a kati. Usually over 50-80km out of KL and PJ. Within KL only pay ponds but also not much pond owner put in haruan because it quite costly to them.

i dont care snakehead or badong or toman or even GT, as long as it is fish.. i’ll be there.. snakehead kinda speacial lo… evrywhere we can easiliy caught them.. no need to wait for boat, loading your fishing teackles equipment, buy expensive equipment, etc, just use whatever you have and shoot.. the best time when i hooked up snakehead are the ‘bubbles’ surfaced when snakehead bite my bait..

snakeheads rocks…

Wow Jaswon, 5.2kg and 6kg haruan! Kati or kg?! Must join you one day lah. The biggest I ever heard was ~9 kati caught by some lucky angler near heavily pressured Taiping Lake more than a decade ago.

Caught my very first haruan many moons ago while fishing with my dad using a huge Abu Toby if not mistaken 18g spoon casting blindly and landed on the bank then retrieved blindly dropped the spoon into the water of less than half feet. Didnt even thought I’ll hit anything and got really bored and out of no where a kati bugger hitted and landed. From that day onward tell you kena haruan racun kau kau every week must go haruan casting cannot stop casting till today. Talk about power of haruan. It will hit when you least expected. Small shallow longkang or pool of water that nobody will even thought of a big bugger down there waiting to strike. That’s why so many kena racun.

But discovered 2 yrs ago casting for pacus lagi best, fight like mad dog haruans and tomans no match.

As long as pacu, either from Tow Foo or Sukida, Bung Sam Ran or Amazon, all are great fighters pound to pound basis. At times they can get fuming mad when you tease them with lures. Straighten your hooks, damaged you lures or bring it back to its hide out and burn a hole in your pocket. Tats the fun of it.

Should name it fresh water GTs [:D]

Hi all,

My retired friend who was also a keen angler from Bekalan Air Bukit Nenas reported that the biggest haruan was 9 kati and was fished out by him from the Tasik Subang Dam in Klang. I have not heard anything bigger than that. May be there are haruans of more gigantic size.
Many years ago before Puncak Niaga took over, Bekalan Air still gave permits to good people. Now all people are bad and so no permits are to be issued. Near to the boat landing place where the white lily was covering most of the area then, you had to hear the feasome sound of haurans attacking bait fish to guess their size. Their splashes would disturb and move the lilies and make you think it was a crocodile lurking there. During those days, the tomans would colonise the open water. Only haruans and bujuks would hide near the lily pads.

I bet that those splashes are Tomans..juveniles toman will decimates all the bujuk/haruan fries ., it will be difficult for other snakeheads beside Toman to survive in open spaces like a dam. We went to Machap Dam a couple of days ago. Using lures like SP/together with spinner .. My Artificial Lure specialist friend.. caught only toman ranging from 300 gms to 1kgs.. Today they went again same story again. On my trip there I had use frog to work out on the lilies /grassy area . There were a lot of baits.. when I reeled back ..a foot was missing or the stomach was badly mauled..The only fish that I caught was a Ikan Hantu, two woumd mark from predator..it was caught when I saw it resting near the bank with by bare hands..

For me, it’s all in the explosion; that quick 2-second burst of life in the rod. The adrenalin rush beats even a pacu’s take. Even tomans seldom strike like that. But even a 600gm haruan will give you your 2-seconds of adrenalin.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

My limited experience shows that the cheroot size haruans will more often give you explosive strikes. At times even before you bait reaches the water.
Monsters will lurk in deeper water when they are not up in the weeds for spawning or crusing near water surface for bait fish in late evenings. Monsters will be more careful in taking the bait, it is always… tap…tap…tap…pull slowly…and swim away!?

Hey Vincent.. Thanks for the memories man.. FYI - I never wore rubber booties.. Or mismatched clothes.. [:p]

Sam [:D]

have knives will travel..

Vincent,

I think you cannot give the Haruan angler the pride of dressing differently with mismatched colours, oversized hats and sometimes those odd long rubber boots! I think all anglers do not have any sense of dressing at all…LOL!

I don’t know whether it is coincidence or not, but once upon a time, I commented to a fellow angler about his strange oversized clothes and ski mask, akin to an amateur bank robber! He replied, pointing to my purple socks, cheap black rubber shoes, striped pants that look like a skirt, green T-Shirt and a Japanese war hat and then asked… did we use the same mirror?

“Fishing Pressure Reduces The Pleasure”

Why I love to cast haruan?

the only answer in my mind is …haruan is the most agresive yet easy to cheat [;)]>>>low cost entertainment[:D]

i just think that haruan fishing is seriously macho.i have fished macho haruans with some of the most macho haruan hunters in the country in the most macho jungles wearing very macho looking torn army clothes and boots and very nearly lost my life.

subang

LOL!

Believe that times spent for haruan fishing worth double in extending your lifespan. Keep casting and keep fishing you will live longer.

i love its, its ferocious ,its delicious and its beautiful!

When we outgrow the notion of getting as many fishes as possible.. triple hooking.. or the not so fun of waiting /sitting for toothless fish to bite.. the challenging casting of haruan fishing will drive all your blues away.. the adrenalin flow from repeat casting will actually help our body to destress.. with the chopping of branches and tree and walking for long distance is a good form of exercise.. the thrill of a sudden 'thud ’ at the end of the line will bring that oomph…

Bro Kenchen,
That is why haruan anglers live longer.
