hahahahaha!!! There’s no secret lah. If you use the Sharpmaker model 204, there is a step-by-step instructional video which you can refer to for practise. As for me, practise makes perfect. You have to understand the blade geometry and the angle of its edge. Only so, it will help you in honing your blade…

Nice collection you've got there. Must have spent a fortune on those knives right?
I am living with one kidney, lung and a portion of my liver.. [:p] On a serious note, collecting knives can be considered as an expensive hobby. You need to know the trend and read the market sentiments to pick up some good pieces at great prices. Second-hand or ‘pre-owned’ blades are another form of adding to the collection. Since they have been kept, doesn’t mean they appreciate in price.. Many of my knives are acquired through the secondary market as well as direct trade with a fellow owner..
kk,
having shrapen and clean it with a mild detergent like those used for washing hands, wipe it dry, and it will not rust until it get contact with water or alternatively you can coat it or wipe it with olive oil.
i used the first method to keep my knives rust free.

quote:Now the question, what is the best way not to let it rust.....
Two ways to tackle this. If you want to cut food, use vegetable oil, clean your knife, dry it and let it air for a coupla hours. Then, coat it with a layer of cooking oil. Do not sheath your knife. Let the oil set. This layer of oil film will prevent oxidation. If you want better corrosion protection, you can use a dry box filled with silica gel and vapour proof barrier bags.
IF you do not use your knife to cut food, there are a coupla choices. First, there’s mineral oil. Used in automobile. They give your knife a thick coat and inhibit contact with moisture vapour. My favourite metal conditioner is the “Militec” oil. Once this sucka sets, your knives will be protected from rusting.. [:D]
Well bro KurauKing, I don’t think anyone sells the Militec here. Solely because it will take a few years before anyone comes back for a new bottle. You can buy the on-line and if quantity is an issue, you can organise a group buy for the minyak.. [:p]

Ahhh… The drop point Moran.. This is a beautiful lightweight camp knife. Just be very careful with the VG-10 cos it tends to rust and pit if you don’t clean it after gutting fish. I learned this the hard way when an expedition kaki asked me to loan him my knife. He didn’t clean it and to my horror, the edge of the knife pitted as a result of fish guts setting on it. But if you take good care of this knife, it’ll give you years and years of service.. [;)]
I scored this Moran a few years back..
Its the first production run, first 200 pieces were embossed with W.H. Moran’s signature and numbered underneath its tang. The first batches of the Spyderco Moran featherweight were pretty expensive and it came with a leather sheath. Check out the mirror polish finish on this awesome lil fixed blade!
The numbered tang..
My much used upswept Moran (top) and the Collector’s edition knife.
Looking at what samo have indeed makes me a newbie to knife collecting. Actually, i am a newbie! [:D]
I’m glad to see there are so many knife collectors here in this forum. I’m sure there are plenty of chances we can exchange and share our experience in knives collecting.
I like this Moran is becoz it has a belt attach cover and its adjustable, i can attach it on my fish fighting belt if i ever go for the Pulau Katam Marlin…hehee…[:D]
I saw the endura at ubob plc but i prefer the coldsteel hunter knife, me got some vendetta with some stingray in Port Klang…[:D]

quote:Originally posted by samo You can log into www.spyderco.com and look up the 'Edge-U-Cation' page. Everything you need to know about steel is explained there.. [:D]
Fuah, bro Kurau, if you continue splurging at Uncle Bob’s place, habis lah.. Orang lain tarak peluang beli pisau.. [:p] Salt series? Very good.. This is one knife that stood up to its rust proof reputation. Its also my favourite carry when I go deep sea fishing and squid jigging..
