The lure that the boatman had used looks like the abu island or its imitation. It has a cured body and looks rather flat. It does not look like a minnow. This is what I have concluded after studying the picture showing him holding the lure with the Sebarau.
I think the lure he is using is a yo-zuri altima spoon![:D]
Do agree there are still plenty of room for improvement eg punctuality, ensure boats/engines are well maintained/ready to go etc are few things to look into. But compare to the overall standard for our local guides/boatmen partly also due gaji suppose consider quite good already lah. Agree these guides still need some education on cnr. Dont forget they were formal netters too so just tell them nicely eg ‘Pakcik kami mau siok je, lain kali balik mau cari monster atau badung ya’ quite sure they will agree. In fact we release few sebaraus and tomans and boatman didnt really say much. But of course we are also not so holly so take back few sebaraus to try the taste.
For toman fishing we try to debarb all the hooks as tendency for it to go into the snags are quite high. If lost lure to the toman hope it will untangle itself and stay alive.

it’s really good to hear that the sebaraus still boil at chenderoh and plenty of toman around there too.last time i went there the water at the main lake was cloudy but at most of the teluk/suak was quite clear.fishing there is really fantastic where the whole day can be spend for fishing as the sebaraus are hunting restlessly from the dawn till the dusk.casting for sebarau can be start at the teluk on morning session, play chasing-chasing with sebarau boiling in the mid of afternoon where the sun is straight on your head, and end with toman sight casting on the evening.
bro,did the pakcik shouts to you “kalung..kalung” (cast) whenever the boat stop in front of the sebarau boiling?if yes he did, then he is the so-called Pak Nawi.the one and only famous bare naked boatman ever got in malaysia…the only guide that is willing to strip down and swim for your snagged lure, even he claimed to me that he is not a good swimmer[:0].so,what else can we expected from this kind-hearted pakcik, rite[:)][:)]

i just back from Chenderoh fishing 3-4 weeks back. it was really hot weather at that time. only managed to catch 2 sebarau and 1 toman.
All caught in the afternoon session. No much water boiling during this trip.
that was a nice looking Toman…wish could land in my Aquarium,he,he,hee..
oppsss, ur boatman’s lure…must be a very special one…
maybe "ibu Ikan’s lure " thats why he dare to dive in to search for it…just a wild guess…But I believe in this things…
fishing at Chenderoh is not as easy things. Sebarau and Toman are really smart.
No matter how much you have changed your lures if the fish does not want to bite it would not.
If that’s the case…use net larr!!!just drop some fish food..then throw the net!!![:D][:D]just kiddding…happy fishing dudess[:)]

i was renting the boat with Cikgu Zaki.
i believed Pak Nawi and Cikgu Zaki are from different boat rental supplier. Never try Pak Nawi.
am quite happy with Cikgu Zaki service. Very friendly, helpful, informative and customer service oriented.

Interesting. So how long is his fishing hours? Did he take a break during lunch hours? Always willing to try something new. PM me.
hi guys,
you can opt for 1/2 day or full day fishing at Chenderoh. the breaktime is pretty much negotiation between you and him. but on the last trip that we had, since the fish is frenzy, he even proposed not to go for break to go all out for fish. i hv to go for quick break to buy some lure at Tony shop at Kuala Kangsar.
