Daiwa T3

latest offering from Daiwa that was in the news for a while and had been on the tackle shop’s shelf for a few weeks in Malaysia, I wander why no discussion on this reel in this section.

Let’s get the balls rolling, as some members here had first hand casting experience of T3 last weekend and do feel free to share your thoughts.

My personal view is, anyone wanted to buy a T3, do set your expectation right. I know the T-Wing System has been touted as an innovation and sort of pushed up the hype about this reel, it has the Magforce 3D that is the flagship breaking system for daiwa reels, and it’s made of the new Zaion material that is supposed to be stronger and lighter than graphite materials.

This reel is selling around the price of conquest 50/100 that is a plus for the paper specs it comes with. But my after brief use thought is, you pay for what you get. Dun expect anything that is near its bigger brother, the Z2020 which is retailing at more than the price of conquest DC series.

Trying it for a brief 15-20 mins over the weekend, i can only say, it didn’t give me that “wow” factor. Perhaps I should say, ya it’s a decent reel distance wise, casting ability, cranking and feel, but still, its overall package doesn’t give me that smoothness feel and control.

Well, this shallow comments come from a novice in BC, I leave it to some other taikos who tried it over the weekend to give their indepth view.

last saturday i saw this reel
in the tackle shop near my place
when i take a good look of i i can see there r few flaw
on the body i thinking why daiwa want to sell this type of
reel if the body is not in good shape
so i ask the shop owner he say that this reel was produce by daiwa
thailand n not from daiwa japan
no wander i say n some more the price is quite high
rm1+++ im thinking it not worthy to buy due to the high price
n not from the factory in japan usually daiwa reel from thailand
the price is not this high so i bought another reel for my self

yea..me too..
don’t think that daiwa without MADE IN JAPAN tapered
should have been sold that high…

and for most of us to know that
the type r is only RM8++ in Thailand
why should this particular reel sell that high
Z2020 is made in Japan right???

z2020 is made in japan
i dun know why they sell it
quite high last time i bought alpahas type r
it cost me below 1k
some time it seem weird when the price is jack up so high

Hi, how much you get for the Z2020? I would go for the Z2020 if not because of the weight. It seems a little bit too heavy for me. However, I wanted a reel with Magforce 3D, so I got the T3.

the price i get
is around 1.8k
eventhough it seem a bit heavy but when i compare it with
td zillion i found out that the zillion is bit heavy (for myself)
nice cast n smooth accelration n give me quite a distance for 7 or 8 grm lure
nice n smooth

1.8k?perghhhh…
hope can try this gear soon bro..hehehehe

testing 1 2 3..

I did a small autopsy on T3 and posted in Tackletour.

Damn, why on earth i went to buy that fecking reel. The material it uses, I dun think it can even last me one year. What I am paying (that applies to all T3 buyers and would be buyers), is for Daiwa’s R&D expenses on the T-wing bar and the hood. Thank you Daiwa for making me a fool.

PS: Anyone care for a trade? Used once only T3 for a Morrum SX Ultra Mag S2 or a Conquest 50.

it depends on how you see it. I have 10 other BC reels other than this T3 and some of those are really a keeper, most of them are “old” reels that were made during 2000 to 2005. Generally I am disappointed with what is inside the latest reels, especially when comparing to the those old reels. I guess the manufacturer has no choice but to reduce costs by introducing cheaper material to compensate for other rising costs.

I will hold this reel for a while more and wait for the T3 Ballastic, which is a heavier reel. I will probably swap out the plastic stuff in the T3 to brass gears and etc.

thank you sir for the inside view of the T3. it looks like a plastic reel. for the price paid is not worth it. maybe AbU LTX is a better buy?
i do agree that the “old” reel by daiwa is more solid.

T3 also has no anti-reverse 2-tooth paw that is commonly found in other daiwa reels, that is kinda strange and puzzle me. While there is no noticeable backplay at the handle, it would probably mean the stress at the AR bearing has increased tremendously.

oic. maybe after a heavy usage the AR bearing will become loosen. then only maybe we can feel the backplay.

Anyway, I will keep the reel. As my first enthusiast baitcaster, i think it perform quite well regardless of the material that used.

just take care of it
and do not abuse it (which i believe you won’t)

let your skills and a little luck take over if a much bigger fish intends to stress out the reel [:D]

it’ll last … within reason

Bro, not all hopes all lost. When I find the time, I will try to compare the brass and metal parts in my other daiwa reels and the plastic and aluminium parts in the T3, to see if some of them can fit the T3. If it can, I will go order those parts and swap it out. I will share with you if that can be done.

Wow, I have been abusing it already during my previous Toman trip. Drag lock for toman, cranking big lure like the Giant Ruby and Wonder Minnow 11.5 cm. Already landed two quite good size Toman with it.
