Flies from the past

Hello,

I am not sure if you Malaysian people are interesting in any information about the old days. So I just ask because I love to read books from the past. So what I actually mean are the classic books on fly fishing and fly tying.

I have a source where you can download those stuff below… for FREE.. but it need a little explanation to get the pics like below.

oh I mean not just a picture but the entire books

Hans

Yes… It will be really helpful… these are really precious knowledge for us… we need to learn everything… honestly… I’m zero… about classic fly pattern…

Please do! Lots of people will appreciate it.

ok will work out some download details later this weekend

Hans

If you follow my instructions closely you will be able to find some very nice classic books but you have to do some research work yourself as well. It’s time consuming when you really want to find some of the legendary books. You have to Google a little too about history as well and dig deep into the old classic books.

I get into this website when I was searching for my favorite books about north country flies better known as Yorkshire spiders) I almost got every book I was searching for since years.
So what you need to find are titles of old classic and famous books and search in the achieves database. So where you going to look for are books from the past from which copyright is unclear and the writers died a long time ago.

I mention a few below so you have a good idea and also know how to search yourself later when trying and experimenting with this achieve a little.. You can search on name of the writer or title of his book. Searching on the EXACT book title works the best. When searching always type the exact title with "’ include. I will share with you a few of my writers from the past and give you a few titles too.

Tittle: Book of the salmon . in two parts. By Ephemera
Tittle Book of Angling by Francis Francis
Tittle How to dress salmon flies by Hale
Practical Fly Fisher by John Jackson
The salmon fly by Kelson ( this is awesome)
Title: The Flyfisher’s guide by Bainbridge, George
Pritt title North country flies
Pritt title Book of the grayling
Pritt title Yorkshire trout flies
Theakston
Alfred Ronalds

Search for any book you wish or searching for since along time (at least when available in the achieve) The older the books are the more chance you have) Books from people who still living you will not find in tthe datebase so you don’t need to search for recent books.

I gave you just a few famous names the rest you have to work out yourself. I have downloaded tons of books this way. The hard part is to find the correct names and titles but that’s more a matter from good research work in Google.

Ok lets give it a try let we search Kelson’s beautiful book titled THE SALMON FLY
http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=the%20salmon%20fly%20AND%20collection%3Aamericana

Watch the layout of theis webpage so you have an idea and how to search later. When you scroll down, you will see the results. Scrol down as far until you see the result as I mark for you below in the picture.

You will see the name of the book, the title, author and the number of downloads. It’s very important that you ALWAYS pick the result with the most downloads. Many other people did the trick before you and so they downloaded the best quality digital book. They have usual more than one digital copy when the book is a real classic.

When you click on the link you get into the next page

http://www.archive.org/details/salmonflyhowtodr00kelsrich

In here go to the box on the leftside in the website (View the book)

You can view the book directly and check if it is the book you really want to download.

Or you can download the pdf directly (by right mouse: target safe as ….)

To get the real high quality books and pictures you go to the HTTP

http://ia300230.us.archive.org/1/items/salmonflyhowtodr00kelsrich/

In here it is just a matter of downloading the biggest files.

Watch clearly…..
You will need to search for tiff files and jp2 and those all are stored in large zip files, so you need a little computer knowledge how to deal with them

To read the jp2 files or jpeg 2000 files you need to download the jp2000 filter for Photoshop to be able to convert them in your own prefered format.

Good luck and nice reading

please let me know if it works for you…

Hans

WOW Classic Salmon flies??? Please do let us know more about them. Errr maybe some of the feather materials will need to be black out first? Dron might be tempted to take up bird hunting for endangered species [}:)]

Well a passionate fly fisher and fly tier also MUST respect nature and wildlife very much and he/she NEVER will kill an animal for making his onw flies but road kill is accepted.

That’s my policy hihihihi.

Hans

I feel the same as you do Hans but I include trying to push a long slender stick into display cages in zoos to get the dropped feathers as well hahahaha. (oops, Dron is closer to the zoo than I am…)

Thanks for the pointers on getting classic fly books. If my wife complain I spent too much time in front of the puter I’ll blame you [}:)]

Dron… a little hint here. There is what they said the ‘largest pheasant park in the world’ at Ajil, near Kuala Berang. Lots of various weird looking birds; not all of them are locals.

I asked them once to buy all those feathers which were on the grounds but they said they can’t sell those feathers from protected species of birds. Well, i used ‘Lapala methodology’ and back with pockets fulls of feathers and bird ****s. Found also that some of these feathers have tiny bugs on it. So it’s good to kill those bugs somehow-microwaves etc.-somehow.

These are magnificence birds with feathers that are stuck it their body mend for ‘showing off’. I saw some of it at tackle box too…so no more buying from nick…hehhe

And roadkills…there are plenty in remote terengganu…i spotted 6 dead Tupaia glis, a shrew in a single stretch of Sg Loh-Dungun road. Used them but don’t feel okay with it…so i gave that to friends.

And some roadkills(birds, civets) have bloods on it…anybody know what’s the best to clean up all these mess or just choose the less messy one???
