Absolutely agree with Jimmy, infact with a wt10, you can push the limit for bigger fish for speedster such as sailfish as well. Good luck trying :slight_smile:

Thanks guys, I am a little relieved now. you know the friend of mine who gifted me this rod is very impressed with my angling achievements. He thought that gifting a wt 5 or 6 rod to me would be like gifting a bicycle to an F1 driver. The poor guy has no idea of fly fishing. He does not even know that none of the big fish that he has seen in my pics has been caught fly fishing and infact, I am just a beginner in fly fishing. Any way, if I could ever catch anything like the ones shown in your pics, I will have have no regrets. I look forward to hooking a 20 lbr Hamalyan Mahseer on this rod. [:p]
By the way, another friend of mine is sending a Pfleuger Summit 9/10 reel for this rod along with Hardy WF 10 sinktip line (not a gift, i am paying for it). Any idea about the performance of this reel???

The combo should look nice. [;)]

* Large arbor spool design
* Forged, machined and anodized aluminum frame and spool
* 2 ball bearing and one-way clutch bearing
* Patent pending center-disc drag system for total drag control
* Convertible left/right hand retrieve Large rubber knob
* Easy-release spool switch

20 lb Hamalyan Mahseer … & other great speedsters… Think you may need something alittle bit more tested in reliability. Not much review has been said on the market on this reel… I have seem some reels that have smoked & seized in action during the blizzard runs …

20 over lbs of meat & bone is not going to be any easy lock down target. Some reel models & internal drag design are not suitable to crank down on biggie milkfish & queen in approx that poundard, The reel’s drag & heat dissipation issues will be popping out once you lock down the drag considerably …

Motorcycle fly reel tests.
http://www.hatchesmagazine.com/page/month/329

Here’s some crazy friends from Hatches Magazines who has tested some reels on motorcycle runs. I think … that’s one of the more substantial test than most tests on fishes.

For myself… I changed a number of reels & at the end of the day, I always loved fly reels with concealed drags or fly reels that can be easy dismantled for a quick rinse of the internal off the salt spray.
Therefore, landed myself with a bunch of Tetons & Tiogas, Ross Evolutions & also some reliable Orvis Battenkill Large Arbors at the end of the day.

Happy sourcing fly reels. It’s never ending with the upgrades…Nautilus for U ? [;)]

Hahahah … the fly reel test was funny! I would love to experiment it myself :slight_smile:

No seller in the world would allow you to carry out this test before buying the reel (and perhaps no seller in the world would mind this test after you have bought the reel) [xx(][:D][^]

True … but we have 30 days return policy :slight_smile:

Hi chuanjiek,
I was just wondering if someone has ever tried Berkley gulp like lures/baits with a heavy fly rod on a wt 10 line?? They are soft, light and have a smell as well. [^] Just a wild idea [8)]. I have also heard of trolling with heavy fly rods. Is it the same trolling method with normal trolling rods or some different.

Trolling for flies are different from our normal trolling. Trolling for flies are normally used for top water fishes, such as trout, salmon etc…
The setup is the same as our normal casting, but the trolling speed is very slow. At least this is how they use this technique to catch lake trout. :slight_smile:

Is the fly setup in trolling any different from normal fly fishing??

Its pretty much the same except the trolling is a little different. I will try to start a tread just for that.. have to find time :slight_smile:

Thanks, it would be great of you

Anytime! :slight_smile:
