Hi all fly fishos
Let me confess here that previously I thought that in Pakistan, fly fishing is for trout only. Seeing you guys however, I now understand that most fish can be caught on a fly. There is no debating the point that fly fishing is perhaps the most elegant and pleasureful of all anling methods. Therefore, I intend starting fly fishing (Infact I already have, using my friends gear) and buying fly fishing gear from Malaysia. Though there have been few threads on the subject, however, can anyone advise me whether its cheap to buy fly fishing gear from Seol or from KL.(i am going to Seol, South Korea before coming to KL). Secondly, what are good brands to buy in KL. Though I am a beginner in fly fishing but I would certainly not like to buy something kiddish. [:D] Any advises would be most welcome.
Regards
Sualeh
I have been buying gears from many places. From my opinion I think Malaysia is the only place you can negotiate and expect it to be cheaper by MSRP ![]()
Sualeh,I think the only shop that carries lots of fly fishing stuff here is Tacklebox,in Subang.Try looking up their thread (under Tackle Retailers) in this forum.Happy ‘Flying’ [:)]

Thanks a lot lannun and chuanjiek. And would you guys be kind enough to give advice on the type of outfit. I mean what no rod would suffice for a biginner. Shoud I go for two outfits, like 6 & 9 wts or only one outfit can do. To catch a 4-5 kg haruan, what type of rod would be required. Sorry for firing so many questions but I cannot stand this feeling that after having done angling for so many years, I never adopted this wonderful method. [:(] So serious about fly fishing now [8)][:p]
Thanks and regards

How much does Redington RS 4 and Red 2 outfit cost?? Sorry for asking so many questions agains but I want to have an idea about the budget. Any other good outfits available in Malaysia. Thanks a lot buddy and sorry again for the botheration. I wish there was a site on which i could go and see the products and their prices instead of bombarding you with so many question.

Hi Sualeh
I have sent you some info on your email sir.
nick ooi
Thanks a ton nick, that gives me an idea how much money I should carry for buying some decent fly fishing gear. I believe it comes down to deciding between staying in slightly cheap hotel and buying quality fly fishing gear and spend more on living & buy a cheaper fly fishing gear. Well [8)][;)], I will go for the first option. What do you guys say??
By the way, how much would an average standard hotel cost in KL and surrounding areas. Any one who knows???
Regards to all
Sualeh
5-6star hotels : RM200-RM300plus (normal, not suite); roughly
3-4 Stars : RM100plus…you can get it; should be nice and plenty in KL. Maybe in Bukit Bintang areas? Not very good on hotels in KL only a bit in Subang Jaya. (Summit Hotel, Holiday Villa Subang, Sheraton will start from RM200plus and above). There are also several 3 star hotel like Sun Hotel(?) etc there at Subang. Maybe our Dr Nick knows about it?
Off to Penang now, catch up with you later.

Thanks a lot Sild, 5 or 4 star would be too expensive for me. I would search for the hostels/guesthouses on the net. I certainly dont want to bore all others with this non-angling discussion. However, I would be very grateful if anyone knows about a good and inexpensive living place and can email the information to me. In the meanwhile, goodluck on your fishing trip.

Hi Sualeh,
Sorry for the late reply, from my opinion I think it really depends on the level of fun and challenge you want to give yourself. From me personally I like to catch fish that can test the max capacity of my tackle usually using lighter gear. Gear works of friction. I use a wt6 with top flex rod to catch little tuna.
Of course you got to have a lot of space when fishing for them. Like I said it depends on the level of fun you like.
I would recommend a wt4 with top flex (9.5) or (9.0) , casting with a faster action rod will help you to land your fly further for beginner. a wt3 is suffecient to fight a haruan about 4-5 kg. However, if you want more security, wt6 is an imminent choice for you.
Have fun and good luck fishing! ![]()
