by now the crowd is getting more intense… evey seconds seems to present greater fears of losing the fish and the mass frustration tat follows…

and the caretaker is getting increasingly nervous, i think he is more nervous than me then, advicing non stop of playing it slowly, ‘biar dia lari’, ‘jangan kasi lepas ohhh’, ‘main main lah, pelahan…’ etc was heard throughout the fight. But i wasnt thinking the same, i’m in pain so i try to yank this big n stubborn ‘pacu’ back as fast as possible is my priority
by then it’s around 10 min of tug-of-war edi. on the way back, the dreaded thing occurs, it was snagged to a person line… and i was even more nervous when the line tat i snag is exactly the other setup of mine, in my gf position!!!
As i am worried sick she wont realize and just yank the rod to set to hook, breaking my line, record and hard earned fish in the process! luckily the shouting of all the onlookers and her neighbouring fishing kaki manage to losen the line and off my line is free again… well at least for awhile
when half way back the fish dash for another 100m of line out again similar to the first run… luckily my reel hav the capacity of 140m of 12lb braid, or else gone case! now same story repeat… slow and painful process of dragging the fish back!!! Boring… for me is both bored and pain then!!!
after nearly 15 min later… the anticipated ‘pacu’ is closing in… and so were the crowd! everyone is eager to see how big the fish would be… before another agonising 50m run again… when it finally back again 5 min later it’s really tired, as the fish is getting shallow and shallower and the silence is deaftening, everyone is so engrossed of what it is, and a tail showed up

Oh My Godness! it’s a pla buk!!! i cannot be mistaking it for anything else, and it’s further backed by another experienced fisho, Mr Startrek! and my heart just like it’s gonna stop when i notice it, and the hook one my lure, the HOOK! it’s tiny! and god only know how much i curse myself for dragging the fish relentlessly without the thought of the line breaking
then all hell broke lose, the caretaker is rallying non stop msg towards head quater and running around to get this huge landing net… the atmosphere is so choked with intensity… for me, the feeling of so close yet so far is killing me!!! the fish just wouldnt stop pulling back and forth refusing to give up, a respectable challenger indeed!
at long last, after some almost eternity the fish also gave up and to our surprise, and horror mixed in! the fish actually took the lure!!! by then i also forgot how long i fought the fish edi, it seems like 15min, but felt longer now as i think of it… but come to think of it doesnt matter much considering i hav succeeded in such a feat,
let it be around 15-30 min ba, very fast considering the setup i’ve used and the fish size, even the caretaker is amazed by my non stop pumping, come to think of it i am real nuts if i hav knew it was a pla buk! cos there’s a huge possibility i might hav break my line in the process

first scoop and there it goes into the net, completely exhausted!
and once again… no kidding, the fish actually took the lure…

nicely stuck to the deformed upper lip…
deformed the hook in the process

(after kena fish)
