Alex,
one more thing. See if can find a surf rod that uses the MT 7144 blank (Penn used them). If I remember correctly they are made in Malaysia so it shouldn’t be too expensive. Good value for money rod. 13 feet, 2 piece, 112gm maximum casting weight.

Carry a rod and speak softly.

I think Abu Ultra Cast should do the job, saw one at Kepong Tackle, the rod is 13 footer/3 pc, rated Medium at 4oz casting weight, the butt is slim compared with other make. If you can find a Medium Heavy it will much better.
