Mikey,
I don’t see any weedless and clouser (chartreuse white and black orange). You might want to consider leh… Yeah. Right. Like I have caught black bass before. [:D] i.e. the rest are opinions so please don’t take them as guide. From a novice somemore…
But if mangrove jack behaves like black bass, I think weed guard helps because you’ll be casting into snaggy areas. Trust me, jack’s jaw can bite through the guard. One of the advantage of fly fishing is you can make your fly as snag free as possible and use fast sinking line to get the fly down as much as possible. You might want to consider taking that advantage when your fishing is limited by the lures’ built in actions. So tie at least a few of them weedless lah…
The pink thing is deadly for selungsung, man. But I find black orange clouser is more productive in low light. Be a bit generous with the flashy thingy lah. Koo hon lin…
I haven’t seen any saltwater fly fisher here that do not have chartreuse white clouser in the box. So I am sure you’ll figure.
How about a few more whistler colour combination? Orange black grizzly hackle as tail, perhaps. Don’t know exactly why but I have caught a few jacks using dark colour whistler at Lumut 2 years ago.
Nuff for now. Busy today. Am fishing later. Cheers.
thanks bro.
Have tied some with double weedguard, but dint think it looks nice in photo hehee. But i cant be more agree with you about the advantage of fishing the snags with weedless fly.
As for clousers, yeah have tied some too but found them too thin compared to thoes Halco lures they use. Will use them to fish deeper water anyway as they are heavily weighted.
Now we are having a problem : The feedback from IGFA regarding the fish ID is not so positive. They claim that some of the juveniles we caught are actually MJ, not blackbass!

Going for the IGFA Blackbass record trip next weekend, tied some pink things and decievers on 4/0 hooks for the trip hehee. Worked on some light colour patterns based on the proven lures, going to tie a few in dark colours too just in case the water is mulky.
Thinking of trying other fly patterns too. Any other suggestion, MASTER NOVICE ?
kewl lure + hot fly pattern. might try for barra .
Barradise,
Yes, those flies are tied for the MFN IGFA Blackbass Record next weekend.
Will be going for 16 & 20lb tippet class.
Keeping finger crossed la.

Dude,
I just came back from Singapore. How was the fishing? I must say this, even the Singapore knew you guys were on some serious Black Bass hunting. [}:)]
woooow who in Singapore mentioned about it? didnt know we became celebrities haha.
Didnt get to cast much, especially fly, only got 2 table size MJ (i think they are, just making myself feeling better - not thinking that they are BBs ) came after my pink thing. Planning for the 2nd trip in May, going into The S (secret) place for Casting. stick to our tread for the date if your are intrsted.
Uploading the pics onto the Fishing Report section. Please go and check.

stories from the past.i knew a friend who went hunting and fishing in the jungles of perak.one day he shot a wild boar and it so happened that this boar had a nest nearby.there were 2 babies in the nest ,so he brought them home and raised them behind his house which was opposite the old gopeng railway station.when they had grown bigger one of them dug a hole in the fence and wandered to the railway station.many people panicked when they saw this boar and some even climbed up the wooden pillars and crossbeams.it also charged some of the guys and threw them into the air.there was a huge commotion and chaos.shouts of ‘babi gila’ could be heard as far away as ipoh and someone called my friend to shoot it down.when he came to the station he recognised the boar and quickly caught hold of the animal and carried it away as it was very tame to the surprise of everyone who thought he was ‘kebal’ or charmed.
