How to tie a Cable car rig n How to use it?

Here is a step by step on how to make a cable car rig:

1)U need a 4-6ft long Stiff Dupont leader line between 20lbs to 40lbs.

2)Tie one end of the leader to a round edge small B snap swivel.

3)Slide in a small adjustable sinker or a clip on sinker 2ft away from the snap swivel. Adjustable sinker just tie two stop knots on each side to stop it from moving.

4)Lastly slide in one running hook on the other end of the leader and tie on the end hook.

After done, the whole rig will look like that:

CABLE CAR RIG: A live bait rig to target surface predator from a jetty or pier.

This rig is design to secure the live bait at a spot and it able to swim freely about 2-4ft below water surface. Main target is those surface predator like wolf herring, queenfish, barracuda, barramundi or todak. It only can use at a jetty, pier or fishing on a high ground.

Here is how to set up a cable car rig:

  1. Set up your tackle n tie a casting sinker to your main line.(Minimum 20lbs)
  2. Cast out to about 50 meter n tighten your main line.
  3. Put your rod down on the railing or rod holder.
  4. Clip the cable car rig snap swivel onto your main line near to the rod tip.

5.Hookup a live bait. Careful, just hook on the back near to it head.

  1. Lift up your rod tip high so that the live bait can slide down into the water.
  2. Tighten your main line again n set your drag.

That all you need to do n do not go far away as if there is any hook up you need to strike to set the hook deep in. Once the hook is set, wind in the line until you feel the tension. Do another strike if you want to comfirm the hook set. From there you can carry on the normal fight. Remember, never loosen the line at any time during the fight. It will cost you the fish been lost.

Note: The small sinker attach is to help the rig get into the water. 2ft. below water is the right dept for surface predator. Two hooks is for a better hookup. Just one hook sometime the fish might able to get away if not properly hookup. If happen to fish along the side of the current flow, U need to add a small float to help surface the rig or else the strong current might carry the whole rig and it live bait down to the bottom of the sea.

How does the cable car rig snap swivel stop on the main line when it touches the water? In other words, how do we keep the rig from sinking to the bottom of the sea? Thanks!

It will only sink down when U fish on the side along the current flow. As I had said, just add a small float onto the snap swivel and it will help to keep the rig afloat. Other than this, either U fish againts the current or the current flowing sideway, this rig will stay ontop. The live bait will also help to surface up that why U need a small sinker to keep it down about 2ft under water.
