btw, i spoke to ah thong and he has trouble sourcing GTs. his members who operate sangkars etc have only a few as ‘decoration’, and not for sale. so Plan A rgd GTs will be on hold till he gets new khang thau. butttttt…
he is now turning to plan B. MILKFISH!!! woo hoo!!! guys, quickly learn and tie white bread flies by the sh*tloads!
his only worry is the biggies in mainpond will whack the milkfish, so the milkfish he’s trying to get must be big.
also, he’s put 60+ 5kg siakaps into mainpond today. was there to witness the feeding session just now and managed to wet my flies. 30lb tipped cut clean by an estimated 8kg siakap doing acrobatics in the air like beruk kena cabai as my line was taken with tremendous speed! KNN!
enough poison for now. dron, andrew and nick must be cursing me again. (sneezing non-stop, gesundheit!)

it was a normal 12 o’clock as far as i can remember. i was done attending to the last patient of the day. the counter had already hit 113. enough was enough. I’ve already made my way to the toilet 3 times, and had 3 breakfasts as the nutty central air-conditioning was hitting sub zero climate which wasn’t very kind at all to my poor bladder. my room is an igloo. it’s lunchtime and i’m hungry again, for the 4th time.
and then my phone rang. it was ah thong, kakilai’s boss. “bring ur camera can ah? they are here. just released!”.
i stood there dumbfounded. suddenly the commotion outside created by the droves of human beings all blacked out. my vision worsened, they call it the tunneling effect in people with Glaucoma. i could only see a white light ahead, my peripheral vision darkened. my heartrate clocked a staggering 200 beats per second, enough to warrant a DC Shock to be performed on me to revert the arrythmia. my respiratory rate tripled to the extent of needing a high-flow oxygen mask.
5 mins later i was there. how the hell i managed to stuff my fly rod, reel, tippet, flies, camera, pliers and oh, gloves, yes gloves, into my pouch in 5 mins i do not know. i guess the daily training and emergencies got me going swift.
the scene before me cannot be said in words, nor painted to do it justice. they say a picture’s worth a thousand words, and no matter what crap has been typed here will soon be forgotten, the spelling, the grammar, the errors…the monotony. i am humbled. i was in heaven for 30 minutes, and was touched by many angels. behold!

some rules to abide by when fishing for the GTs:
- single, barbless hooks only
- do not hold the fish by it’s tail, bring a lipper, and support the belly
- limit photography time, as Pond GTs are NOT as hardy as their wild counterparts
and now back to work…i’m late by 7 minutes already - have lotsa fun! and fun can only be shared when there’s plenty to go round. so let’s take care of the GTs and have a whale of a time!
Grand opening of GTs this Friday. will check on them again this evening to MAKE SURE they are eating well, and thriving well before the onslaught hits them starting fiday.

mmg betoi dia mya karen lain macam. the fish literally emptied my spool to the backing. the owner ah thong was laughing his balls out when i was running around the pond retrieving my fly line. what explosive power, endurance and headshake, even as i was trying to unhook the GT, the head still shaking macam disko…i really cannot describe the feeling but ‘electrifying’!
