DATE: 16-02-2008 TIME: 0915hrs. ROD: Penn Slammer 10.6ft REEL: Abu 7000 Red LINE: 25lbs with shock leader RIG: Long Snood Bottom Feeder BAIT: Frozen Herring(Tamban)
From 2.0kg at Hundyai beach to 2.2kg at Tanah Merah breakwater to 2.5kg at bedok jetty. This is how I re-write my grouper record on surf from the shore.
Went there yesterday night. It was very windy. Setup my two rods with frozen tamban as bait. No action at all beside a nice flow current tide. Spend most of the time looking for squid n only manage to caught a few. Packup around 1am to have some rest.
Headed back to the jetty at 0700hrs this morning. Very crowded at the end part. The downtide current was strong. Line casted out are all at 45% angle. Manage to squeeze in one rod n casted out. Went to jig for tamban but hardly get it. An hour later a overnight guy decided to packup. I took over his place n setup another rod. Again went to jig for tamban. Halfway through I heard my Abu 7000 reel alarm has a short screech. My Slammer rod tip was shaking while I grab it to strike. YES…heavy at the end of the line but no struggling sign of a hook fish. I keep on winding back the line but no feeling at all except heavy load. My mind thought it could be a Puffer. Hahaha…when it surface…WOW…a nice big spotted grouper…Hahaha…from the look at the size…I know I have broke my personal best. A gaff was use to bring it up with the help of the guy who had packup. I wonder how he feel ?? hehehe…The fish hit the scale at 2.5kg.

Congrats. I think the guy who left his spot must be beating his own chest! Luckily it was not his jackpot seat in Genting!

SA, i used to surfcast at Hyundai Beach oso. Ban_Zai showed me the place you all fish, to my surprise the jetty is right at the spot i use to fish last time during the reclaiming time. I can say it’s one of Singapore most productive place to surfcast as i remember the two current collide near the Hyundai beach. You can see bait fishes jump everywhere being chase by bigger predatory fish.
Last time we use to chase the seagull at Hyundai Beach, when you see those seagull surround a spot with baitfishes, below is biggies…[:D]
Haha…thanks KK,
I don’t know which jetty BZ refer too. I never fish with him before. Moreover when I was fishing at Hundyai…think he still schooling le…haha…Think some people mixed up with Hundyai n Obayashi…They are two difference places…

Sorry, got mix up with the name. Last time when i was thr, they oni call it changi reclaimed land. I was in the chatroom justnow, tere and Thanatos told me that Hyundai no jetty de so should be the Obayashi de lo…[:D]
Thanatos told me you are a regular at BJT. Last time, there is a old malay chap always at BJT de, we always calls him ‘Wak’. He is from Pulau Seking and he’s dam good fishing at BJT. He taught me a lot about fishing and i was with him when he hauled up the 60kgs+ cobia at BJT, i really miss him and BJT…[:D]
Yup..the jetty belong to the SAF yatch club. Now there charge S$8.00 per entry. But is not productive. Only have queenfish, todak n sometime chermin. The jetty was built in a way that below it is all concrete. Water below can’t pass through. So on one side the water is almost dead. I call that place the starting point. Reason is it is the start of a long sea wall all the way to the navy base. Before the navy base built, that place was very good. ACK n big string ray was common. But after all was built up, it has become dead place.
Yes…‘Wak’ is still around but older now n weaker. Once in awhile he will come along but don’t fish long. I am among the first few to fish at the jetty when it was ready in 1974. I cycle there as it was very near to my kampong. But in between I do fish around the whole island shorline. I spend about 2 years in Hundyai n 3 years at Obayashi before there close up that place to public. Now I fish mostly on the jetty as it was very near my house. Moreover there is not much place to fish in Singapore now as alot are restricted area.

Well SA, it’s good to hear Wak is still around. If you don’t mind pls take a pic of him and post here. Do let him know that a friend from Malaysia name Jeffrey, that use to drive the whole Bedok gangs to Changi reclaim area to fish, with my pick-up lorry[:D]. Last time i use to fish with him nearly every week at ECP paypond, sad to hear it’s gone now.
