Newbie need rod.

Hi, guys. I just recently come back into fishing. I usually fishing by using my dad’s gear. But since I can afford those now, I would like to buy one set for myself. I feel very bad when my dad 10 years old gear get drag down to pond when I bring it to fishing.

My dad just recently bought a Ryobi Ecusima 3000Vi. I want to pair it with a fishing rod that is sufficient to fish in most situation such as pay pond, lakeside and riverside. I dont think I’ll be able to fish on a boat, so maybe a longer rod would be better for casting distance? I like to fish a great variety of fish, but most of my target would be toman, haruan, and pay pond fish such as patin, pacu, rohu. My usual way of fishing is just casting, float or bottom. My budget would be around 100-200, not too expensive as I still need to get other fishing accessories.

The reel is load with 20lbs mono line and 50lbs braided line. Personally I think the 50lbs is too much to handle for the reel and rod. But my dad like to load the reel with heavy line just in case of big fish.

Bro,
Sea Tackle Sdn Bhd is having a warehouse sale this July 1 to 3(Thursday to Saturday). Time from 9am till 4 pm.
There are some stuff there that are worth the money like the Shimano Twinpower(made in Japan) that was snapped up by the second day of the sale.

Go check it out!

I know there is ware house sales for sea tackle, but I also need some idea what should I buy. There are too many rods available there.

Usually i settle for lemax brand. To me its sufficient enough. 20lbs is more than enough i suppose.

In need of inspiration and LOADS of poison![;)]

Thanks alot. I do come across the Lemax black rose recommended by the tackle shop near my house. How do you think of this rod, the selling price is 195.

Not sure whether they still have any - but try to look out for the Ryobi Regno also.

It’s a pity if they don’t - I’m OK because I whacked a few at the last sale - and I still use them from time to time.

The rods have been around for a few years - but like you said, good and dependable.

Will probably be there about 10.30 tomorrow - time enough for us all to say " Hello ! "[:)]

Mike

Whoa Mike, I dont work there despite what you hear from EK Wong! But hope to meet you sometime too.[:D]

Anyone is going there? I think I’ll be there tomorrow. I scout out the place today, I think is quite hard to find parking there.

bro..here’s a suggstion…for paypond..use a smaller rod..maybe light/medium rod..less tha 6 feet…for wild pond/lakes…go for 6’6 to 8’0 rod…my paypond outfit cost less than rm100 and fully satisfied with the performence…lemex rod are good but if you’re planing to buy one..wait for sea tackle sales…you might get a good deal…i saw ugly stick on sale at puchong perdana tackle shop…7’0 for rm85 (i think)

Dont think there are any more Ugly Stiks in the market but you’re right about the Yozuri’s and Duel’s. If they are available, first day’s sale would see half of them kena sailang!

Try this rod.. My favorite.. Ryobi Legend 7 feet.. The best rod ever.. This is an old school but serve my father and me almost 10 years.. This is recomend by Aznir Malek and Uncle Bob in the Rod and Line magazine.. This rod can withstand almost all kind of freshwater fishing environment.. Now I still use it as my haruan outings… This is medium action rod, really a companion when hunting for haruan.. The best is fit it with FinNor and small Penn SS (old school) reels.

Sayonarw~~

managed to drop by at the sale just now… lots of ugly sticks on sale… didnt get to check out the prices (snuck out from work to go so was rushing and the place was packed)… shimano twinpower 2000 for rm300… duel and yo-zuri lures for rm10 per piece… ofmer lures for rm5 per piece…

Unable to get there today, but my dad bought a Ofmer rod and a Tica reel, some fishing line and lures. I heard there are ugly stiks, price about 100+, still not too bad. Kepong tackles also have ugly stiks.

bro..da buying will nvr stop..trust me man!! Waahahha..I bought so many rods n now currently shoppin for a rod rack…u say laa!! How?? But for starter go get a good brand name ones..i.e abu, fenwick, shimano..Rods like viper, expert, pioneer might be new in da mkt however if u look at their finishin n construction it is quite value for money..Dun jus tat my advise, ask around n u decide yurself..

To fish or not to fish, tat is da question
