Pixy68 vs Aldebaran

Need review from caster here. I have no idea which one to get.
Which one is good to cast 3-14gm at good distance?

both around the same price… but i think for the lure weight u mentioned both should do well

but i choose the daiwa this time around tho…

I only have 13 years of fishing experience, so must beri tunjuk ajar!

bro,

Aldebaran is already the lightest shimano bc reel around, why waste money change handle again? how light you want to go?

Make sure you get the lefty reel this time round. You managed to swap your Eite CB? [:D]

maybe can get 100gm with carbon handle. hehe. i sold my elite ib n bought new elite ib-L. just upgrade to zpi bb n no different. haha.

actually ball bearing doesnt matter much one la it’s all the frigging hype… just take good care of them and clean them dutifully they’regood enough!

changing to carbon handle might save 10-15g at most only i guess. Worst still if u add those bling bling knob it actually add on more weight lol.

knht bro, no la. for same price i rather get pixy, type R maybe? Cos this time around i think shimano really over charge liau, pretty much nothing to hype about but costing as much as a p68. Plus scorpio mentioned 3g, for this class pixy should excell better than aldebaran altho both can toss the weight

PX68 SPR is +/-usd100 more then PX68. No idea about PX68 Type-R. Try to free spin on both reel, both spin very smooth. Aldebaran MG7 free spin not so smooth, maybe need to upgrade the BB. Anyone using Aldebaran with upgrade BB?

Btw thanks to bro knht n TJS for review. Very hard to choose w/o test the both bc.
With my spinning set, i can cast mini fat rap 4gm about 25-30m with 10lb braided.

bro scorpio,

Gerard’s asking why bother with lightweight lpbcs when you can cast light lures far with your spinning set up.

you are looking for:
a) light reel/to lighten reel
b) reel for light lures

your aim/target?
distance is one thing .. cast accuracy is another
with distance, it’ll take you longer to retrieve
making effective/result inducing retrieves is more important

or you’re tackle whore/gearhead/syok sendiri (like me) ? [:D]

I have 1 BC set- Custom MHX rod / Revo Elite IB. With this set i only can cast 7-14gm w/o any problem. Try to cast 3-5gm before and i get free mee hoon[:I]. My rod cant load very light lure. For spinning set i have no problem to cast light lure and this set need to rest and use as spare.
Yup im looking for light bc reel to cast light lure. As for distance i cast along the lake/river banks from where i stand. Not to cast out far to middle/centre of lake or river. I dont want to spook the fish bcos i walk along the banks.
Accuracy? ermm ok ok lah if no wind facing me but still learn every time.
Im not looking for very highend and very ex. Highend is only temp and after few months or max 1 year, come out new highend model again. As long can be use for longterm is good already for me. As for budget i have Aldebaran in mind if can cast light lure.
Pixy is too ex for me but good to have it if good extra cash.

if you’re really into light lures then it’ll be worth it to invest in a purpose specific reel

alternative choices if budget is restrictive:
a)get one more set of your spinning set up - seriously
b)go for older version of pixy - they still do a good job

pixy, liberto pixy, pixy68, pixy68SPR sigh
an older pixy can be tweaked into pixzilla [:D]

TJS, nymaoan and Gerard will have good tips and suggestions.

honestly, if dun plan to spend for a px68 spr or px68 or even the great original pixies, or try to hunt down the elusive cq51s, then just get a nice spinning set up n go ITO CRAFT! hehe… no lost there.
honestly, if u practice with ul spinning set until your casting really accurate, there’s much more skill involved there than using bc (in my opinion).
setting up a nice spinning set (rod n reel) could be cheaper than splurging on an spr or cq51s (if can find in the first place).
but i’ll always love my spr.

the most difficult thing about getting these “finesse” reels, is finding the right rod to match.
honestly, there’s practically nothing out there (in terms of bc rod) that u can buy off-the-shelf that is perfect for casting 2-4g stuff. so there’s another problem. another good reason to just go for spinning.
but i’ll always love my spr. :slight_smile:

btw, i disagree about the whole “highend = temporary”… coz if u find something u love, just stick with it. dun have to chase new stuff all the time. i love my morrum sx n would never ever sell it, coz i still always use it (when not going light with my spr).
once in a while, maybe ok to let your “tackle whore” self indulge in some of the trends… but fishing-wise, stick to the familiar… and save yourself a lot of money!

i find it a tad weird that u said pixies are out of your budget range, but your topic here is px68 vs aldebaran. both are around the same price range (pretty high).

also, looking at your first question.. 3-14gm, good distance? i’d say many reels today can do that. alphas r-edition should be on your shortlist, since it barely breaks RM1k mark. could be less if u look for used one. conquest 51 is always one of the reels i’d recommend to ppl, coz it’s just an amazing piece of engineering as well as art. if i had the money (which i don’t right now), i’d just get one for the sake of getting one. but cq51 is about the same price as px68 and aldebaran. so, guess that’s tough to put on your list.

seeing that your nick is scorpio… i’m guessing that there’s a 50% chance u own a shimano scorpion. (50%, coz u could have chosen the nick just coz it’s your zodiac sign)
anyway, scorpion also great reel for the price, and can do what u looking for, imo.

Thanks bro nyamaoan for reply[:D]. Now i wake up already[|)]. I no need to hurry to buy (Save money frm today). Wait for year end and buy what i can buy (Not year end sale or my bonus).
Must wait for Pixy Type-R (Maybe got Mugen Power inside).
For Daiwa- Px68, Px-SPR or Type-R
For Shimano- Cq51(dont like gold colour), Aldebaran or Cq51DC
Btw i already have rod for new reel. My rod confirm can cast 3gm. For my fav lure is around 4-7gm.
Its ok lah to buy abit ex for longterm. Hobby is hobby but i dont anyhow buy n sell again[^].
Im scorpio w/o scorpion. Scorpio is my zodiac. Happy weekend.
