Sometimes if we don't catch anything we will sure singgah the pay pond at KB to cast some table size grouper and siakap..he he[:)] I think I know where is this pond located, very near to KB town. You mention you saw very large snakehead....It could be from a different species of snakehead but I can't confirm yet as I never landed one from that pond...but is very high in my list. Will give you a call if we happen to be in KB. Other than Kota Marine..you can go to Geo Fish located at Lintas Plaza. We normally get our supplies of lures from there, but there is one tackle shop in KB which carry varieties of lures and some even very rare and cannot get in KK. Even the berkley SP had wide selection!

Great. Will make sure I have free time to fish with you during your stay here. We can drive up to Kota Belud too only take about 45 minutes.

cheers

Absoluteley, any kind of fishing are interesting. Last time we went out on “cocktailfishing” with a boat called Cool Cat. Caught some small barracudas, groupers and a Splender Suckerfish.

i thnik you may also bring along some of your lures for hunting the snakehead there, mine is not working yet, maybe yours will get some fish there. i might be trying the soft plastic this weekend, i still didn’t bought the janggut yet, but sooner will give it a try. had you try fishing at kuala abai there? there is a pay pond nearby the area too. barramundi (siakap @ selunsung) had a good record there, weighting 7 kg, 17 kg, 30 kg, and even up to 40 kg!!! i never saw it, but surely my uncle had saw a fisherman pulling the fish to the shore from the middle of the river there, its weight around 17 kg. fuhhh… if i had a chance to hook up with it, surely will be a fantastic moment. the 1 in your photo also a large 1.

Not sure about the paypond having double digit barramundi there but sure a lot of barramundis...my record so far in that pond is about 2.8kg only by lure. As for Kuala Abai river mouth I am sure giant barramundi swim there. Heard alot of stories up to 20kg and above. But never landed before. The last time I was there only caught a few MJs on lures.. The one in the picture is from Kalumpang River in Tawau, about 5kg. One day maybe we can visit Tawau for some fantastic time fighting the Barra and the mighty Sabah's Black Bass!!

Cheers

Hi Dan,

Glad you enjoyed KK. Our MFN Sabah Expedition Trip is now published in the e-magazine version. You can view for free (must do free registration here) at http://www.emag.com.my/emagbook.htm?id=834&pg=15

BadusHunter was one of our uplink whom we sent SMS to to update the live expedition. Daniel, I am not from KK but from KL. Rest assured the gentlemen from Sabah are downright cool and friendly, as what they mentioned in the tourism brochure. You’ll be in safe hands with advices from Bwan, Badushunter and anyone from the famous Otek Hunter angling team.

yup, i also saw some of the anglers caught MJ by their lure. quit large too. maybe 1 day i could bring you all to kota marudu and pitas here, sure there is a lot of spot here for fishing, but still less that using lure for fishing.
