A few forumers are in the North Island…Wellington I think…I lived in Christchurch some 20 years ago..before the ground moved…for Salmon, try Waimakariri or any of the rivers… also good for trout. Shore fishing: red cod would be the easiest. other than these, need local guides…

Thanks bro for the tip. I will remember this when I get there.

Phil - no, I am not located in NZ, but I have happily traveled there for my holidays many times over the years.

They are very friendly people, and will often even go out of their way to make you comfortable. You do not need to prepare for your trip - just turn up and act yourself - from the car rentals just outside the arrival hall, to the first tackle shop ( you need to get your fishing license there anyway ), to the first bed sit you see alongside the road - Kiwis are very genuinely helpful and sincere.

e.g. I visited the Kilwell factory in Rotorua and bought myself some long fly rods. They actually arranged for somebody to give me lessons in a field outside the factory - foc !

When I discovered later that I had forgotten about some protective rod tubes to arm myself against the baggage handlers at MAS, one of the shops in Taupo made me some rod tubes from their spare packaging material. How much did this cost ? - " … for you, no charge ". Do you know anybody in our country who would do this for you ?

As you will know by now, I am extremely impressed by all the people that I met over there - and look forward to more happy holidays in the future.

Just a reminder on the F&B side - service is expensive. Shopping for what you like, and cooking it yourself is the way to go.

Happy Holiday ! [:)][:)][:)]
