bro onn, nice catch there. How you rig the whole selar/kembong??Tandem hook with up and over rig or just one hook and tie leader at bait tail using running sinker? How far u cast? Really2 whip ur zippy to achieve distance or just not to far from from the beach??Should try once go back to kt,i ve heard some angler landed gerong belang olso there.
Mail me contact nanti can hello2 when got fishing trip around here.
En.Rahim, not need la, you already got 2 tripod la.
RJoe,
Rig is Up n Over with 3/0 infront and 2/0 keeper, snood approx. 1.5m long. That time got back pain bekas urut in the morning, casting distance not so far would say approx. 70-80m based on line out.
Tlk Ketapang normally yeild sizeble Gerong Belang, Ebek and Pari’s when due season. Only setan now a lot of people do netting close to the shore.
Bro Onn,
The so called people netting near the shore are probably genuine fishermen. Fish to them is actually for their livelihood. It means education, shelter & food etc for the family. As for us the game fish is only for sport thats all. Some of us don’t even eat fish but take home the fishes for their neighbor. I’m not championing the fishermen but I do have a soft spot for them. They are very poor people, everyday trying to make ends meet. Let us all pray that the fishermen get more fish and better price from dealers.
till later…
trust in god but tie up your camel or loosen the drag.

En.Rahim,
I’m not against thesse people but we must clearly define these shore fishingmen, majority I come across are weekend netter. Netting is like a hobby to them happy-happy like us like field casting.
I was a fishingboy during my school days in Dungun way back in the 70’s, trying to earn extra pocket money. Very sad till tear want come out when remember the good poor days.Been paid from RM0.40 cents to RM4.00( like kena TOTO) for 4 to 6 hours job/day. Have to woke up very early and must be at the pengkalan latest by 5.30am. I understand very well about the fishingmen livelihood coz I grow up among the fishingman community.
Talking about the present shore fishingmen, majority tend to land thier netting near to shore coz they are lazy to further out. They looking for fast return with less effort. Feeling of Greed can clear see when they parallelly landed and block the shore with their net.
Very good example is along the beach at Pantai Bkt. Kluang in Besut, the whole stretch something like 10km long, parked with net less than 300m from the shore.
Those day, people also do shore netting but totally in the opposite manner. Normally they park their net something like +1000m from the shore line.
The positioning is adjacent or sometime slightly diagonal to the beach not parallel as current practise. would say these shore fishingmen lack of everything in term of boat, net, outboard engine, capital and lastly support from the government, which again the opposite with the present shore fishingmen.
If not mistaken, there bylaw under PERIKANAN on shore netting, that the net must be at 1 or 3 km from shore. Anybody can confirm on this?
Bro Onn,(My tears also like want to come out)
I want to confirm but cannot…he he.
Last time I was fishing in Besut wave breaker. There were lots of duris. Normally we will release these fishes isn’t it. That’s exactly what I did, there was this “abang”(not Mohd. Afian) who was watching me catching and throwing the fishes back in the water. I guess he couldn’t stand it anymore and approached me. Politely he requested that I put all the fishes that I don’t want on the pavement. He will come and collect it on his way back. I was really surprised and shocked at such a request. Once he was out of sight I packed up and left the place. Nobody eat duris, I thought to myself. On the contrary I found out that there are folks who eat duris actually. At the time in question duris were I think about rm3 per kilo. Maybe he wanted to sell or eat the fishes, I don’t knowwwww…but that experienced had touched me.
Bro Onn,
Suddenly I remember your mee goreng and nasi story. Aisey..tears coming already cannot write anymore…

people…i visited kuala linggi again last sat nite and was welcome by ribut. Anyhow fished from 10(after the ribut subsided) in light showers and only managed 3 gelama..after midnite things are very very quiet..the weather then was nice and the sea was rather calm probably the reason fishes opted to sleep early kot..anyhow what I observed was that numbers of catch has decreased (at the simpang there) but size of gelama caught seems to increase in size..the biggest I caught was the size of the astro remote control..may be next visit will put up at ali’s place and see how lah…hehehe
