My biggest Toman on SP to date. 1.5kilo on a 5 inch Zoom Superfluke. Fished weightless, 6lb fireline and 20lb Leader on a 1000 reel. Cast to a bank, dropped it into the water and BAM. Hookup.

Here are some of my favourites, but many, many types will catch Haruan.
I wanted to post a picture of some Haruan I got at the weekend when the bite was shut down. I couldn’t get a thing on spinnerbaits, but got some fish by inching a soft plastic along the bottom. Photobucket isn’t behaving itself for me at the moment. As soon as I can upload, I’ll post the pictures.
I use BIG plastics by Malaysian Haruan hunter standards. I like a plastic of 4" to 5" at least. You can catch ceruts on big plastics, so don’t be frightened to use a larger plastic on these fish.

Nice shot, well done. I also got addicted to these SP stuff. First tried juvinile toman to berkeley realstik, method drop shot, but lost few SP due to it’s sharp teeth. Three haruans under 1kg on berkeley minnow, method slow jerking with round Gamakastu jighead. So far grub (ribbon tail), berkeley minnow jerk bait, SP frog H&H & shad not so effective or the fish missed the hook.

Really hope to meet up with you soon to learn more bout sp la… Those jigheads look cool, especially those cone-shaped weedless jighead, may i know where can i get them? Still don’t know how to use the Berkley minnow la, maybe the fish here dun like it must use them other place else… Would love to upgrade my sp size soon, now biggest sp only 3" or 4" hehe…

Unlike you i prefer to use aggresive action sp as i mention earlier, such as the grub and paddle tail sp compared to the jerk or stick bait… mainly because i havent get anything yet on them unlike the other plastic, unless the scented ones… I find that when jerking too fast the haruan might not be able to catch up especially those lazy or high pressured ones!
I’m just a form5 student and only have 9 years of fishing experience, so must beri tunjuk ajar!

You use the mentioned 2 kind of SP and get fish is becos you used it often.
Minnow style is not for fast retrieves. After casting it out, prefer to let it sink to the bottom and twitch the rod and wind back slowly, let it sink again and repeat the process. If mid water it is sort of walking the dog, it zig zag in the water, pause let it sink a little and repeat the pocess. The good part is sometimes even the fish takes your bait you don’t even know it or only a very light feel, a 100% hook up cos the hook is expose. Minnow are meant for jerking/twitching and slow retrieval.

I also bought the minnow same kind but red with metallic silver. Tried berkeley’s one used it for jerk type of fishing very effective, Let it sink to the bottom or mid water jerking very good. That why I bought the jepun type, have use it before, shall try it out with anamis this sat at Bkt. Beruntung. Berkeleys split tail and jepun one paddle tail. Cost a bit more RM20 for seven but berkeley RM16.50 for 8. Who care about the price if it is effective.

I used onli 1 sp. The thing near its gills is part of the weedbed that I pulled out together with the fish when it lodged itself into a weedbed near me.
The SP I used was a Zoom Superfluke 5 inch in arkansa shad colour. My favourite SP to date and one of my favourite colour too (the other fav colour is Pearl white). Sluggos are great too but they are not as heavy as the flukes therefore cannot cast too far. Can make these things swim subsurface, walk the dog and make it point its nose out of the water just like a seluang.
