Aiyoh master Yong,

Klang is now on my doorstep … please lah, must tell me next time so I can join you…then you can join me catching Archer fish on dries at the marina.

As for the Sikangs, lets arrange to go one weekday morning, since you are now retired and I’m jobless.[:D]..first thing I’ll like to do is to study the insect life in the river to see what the Sikangs’ food items are…perhaps we can be forgiven if we spoon a couple?[:)]

i plan to take leave soon master yong. pls take me to the stream u mentioned. i want to try my hands with malaysian trout

I think now is not really a good time to catch them ‘Trout-oid’.
I usually wait until end of September to get bigger-sized specimens. The season usually lasts until early Febuary. Last season I caught a 2-footer - belly full of kelkatu (The report is out on SIRIP magazine this month) - not in the stream Master Yong mentioned but close.

So far, the Elk-Hair CDC Caddis (natural & olive color) works the best. Sometimes I use white CDC to give that ‘kelkatu effect’.

And I also think this species is the most fun species I ever caught in those streams. I caught Tengas, Sia and even Kelah but the excitement of these are not even close. Our brother, Alpocot, even custom-make one fibreglass rod especially for fishing this species. And our clan even make a T-Shirt - "SIKANG Unlimited’ to commemorate our endless praises for Sikang.

So if any of you wanna have go at conservation of this our beloved Sikang, COUNT ME IN…! [;)]

Is it a mutant trout, troutoid, mystery trout, nemesis of the trout, carptrout, freak of evolution or what? Should we just farm them and eat these yummy yummy fish? Please comment, cheers.

does the fish differentiate a conventional elk-hair caddis with CDC elk-hair caddis?

Hi guys,Thanks for the good write ups and please tell me more about the Indian trout, Sualeh. We caught the Sikangs in the mountains of karak.Yesterday Ken caught a kelah and a few tengas and 2 Sikangs while i got a bujuk, lampam, sebarau and sikang. It was a very good day and it’s just like fishing in beautiful New Zealand rivers surrounded by pine trees and forest.Almost like heaven ,really. Now we are busy tying dry flies for the next trip.Ken is really good at dry fly fishing for Sikangs and i am going to copy some of his patterns.

Hi Troutbum,I may be going this weekend if no rain.I just received some dry flies from a friend which are supposed to be deadly on trout and grayling. The first is a Red tag and the other is called the Leckford Professor and i cant wait to try them out in the Sikang stream. The Professor was tied by,Ernest Mott, the keeper of the Leckford stretch of the Test river!.They are rather old school flies and i will tie some using cdc hackles to improve floatation. Also try to tie some black adams size 14 to 16 for the trip.Cheers.

master yong, later wanna go bentong for another round of sikang hunting?

anyway, do visits my website for some pic posting there, i didnt upload most of the pic because my house internet is currently down.

Master Yong,

Just saw the DVD on Chinese Mahseer which came with the latest R&L… plenty of good sized Sikangs in the Thai/Burma border! … but the way the Chinese Mahseers were handled by the fishermen sucks.[:(]

Hi guys, We are planning trips tomorrow and sunday .Please join us and we can also spend a night or two camping at the lentang site.To attract more fish to the streams we can light some coconut oil lamps fixed to long sticks and plant them in the sandy bed so that flying insects will fall into the water at night. There is also very good food at the genting sempah food court where we can have dinner. Please contact me,joe or nick if you want to camp/ fly at the world’s oldest trout streams.Hook size 10 or 12 dry flies with spread out wings are recommended for sikangs.

dear master yong,

stream fishing for malysian trout… is it necessary to get a ‘drag-free drift’ on the fly?

just asking as i see dry-fly techniques on video seems to emphasise that

Mr. Yong..

Plan another trip la, me also want try fish this malaysian trout..

Cheers,

[:D][:D][:D]

we are actually planning trips right now. however, the catch lately are very bad and with thenderstorm that occur nearly everyday preventing us to go fishing. besides that, most the rivers are also muddy.
