Thanks Bro Thomas
Yes, I had fun and sore limbs for days! ha ha. It is a good place for someone who really needs a fishing break badly. [:D]
The fish was taking every cast and after about 20 in about an hour, we were seriously hoping the fishes slow down on the bites ha ha
Needed two days of Massages to recover

Hi Doc,
Great catch!
By the way.. i was wondering if you have any suggestions on fishing guides at the pond? Would appreciate it if you gave me a name and a number i could call.
I wanted to make a trip down there 2 years ago and Inerzen was kind enough to give me info. due to unfortunate circumstances i was not able to make the trip and have been dying ever since to make sure i visit BSR.
What other fishing places do you also recommend to visit besides BSR?
Any help in terms of information will be greatly appreciated
Regards,
Ming Chuang
Thanks Mcgan
I use BKK Guy John for guide and transport, his service is good and his advice is commendable
This is is HP number 081-9420270, one advice … book him early
He does many other trips to other places too, including IT Monster and Wild Toman
I will be doing another trip to Bangkok maybe in March 2012 [:D]
Cheers
Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all
I would second Doc’s recommendation - John is a good guide. Go over to his facebook and website.
You may want to ask John about Boon Ma which is also on the fringe of Bangkok - lots of large Barramundi to test your back and arms.
If you are prepared to go further - John is into wild tomans right now !
Some important lesson I learned while fishing in BSR
- Your line should be at least 50lbs and must be new [:)] a 50lbs line snapping on a PlaBuk run can be very loud
- Good quality reels … I say a local guy walking very fast to the fishing shop in BSR with a reel with shaft detached from the spool
- Jigging rod is a better choice rather than a long casting rod, no doubt the long rod makes good picture taking materials BUT after 15 or more Mekong Catfish, you will really wish you had a stronger rod
- Employ a guide, they really make the difference of you catching the BIG ones
- If you are in a group of 2 persons, register for use 1 rod only … believe me, the two of us wanted one rod per person and after 2 hours, we are really scared to see the float sink …
- If you need a break, kowtim the guides for lunch … They are hard working people who love to see you catch fish and suffer. When they eat, you might get some time to sit down and rest … maybe
All in all, do have fun
Hi Doc,
Thanks for the tips. I really appreciate it. looking forward to organizing a trip to BSR shortly.
I’ll look to set up my jigging rod for the fishing there.
So using a shorter rod will help compared to a long rod.. was looking forward to try out a new rod i have [V] Bought it for casting lures from the surf in australia but ended up barely using it.. sigh..
A lot depends on where in BSR you will be fishing from. If you book some of the chalets - then you need not worry about casting distance. We were on the walkway in the middle - and we needed to cast a fair distance for the Pla Buk. A longer casting rod was what we needed.
No problems with the Carp - John simply sank a sepak takraw sized lump of dough almost alongside the walkway.
In any case - have a word with John aka BKK Guy. This guy really knows what to do.
Have a good trip ! [:)]
We booked the last chalet in BSR, thus has a harrowing time with non stop bites after bites.
The chalet will cost an extra 2000 Bhats but it has TV, aircon room and shower ![]()
i’m going there 2 weeks later
may i know what time is the tackle shop open there?
Jikey - I do not know the exact time that they open but they were definitely open when I took my lunch break ( weekday )
If you are thinking of tackling up - have a word with your guide first - you may want to use his equipment until you develop a feel for what is needed. This is always advisable on a " first time " visit to anywhere new.
Our guide also brought us to 2 tackle shops on the way to BSR. Lot’s of stuff to tempt you - and the prices were quite good - especially the locally made stuff.
When you decide to spend - just remember - you WILL BE GETTING FISH - so no need to go overboard with all the expensive exotic stuff.
Mike thank for reply

Doc, i would like to know …if i were to fish there…where to makan for muslim people?..

at the pond, you can get some seafood which has no pork, if you go with BKK Guy John, he will ensure all these for you. I stayed at Baiyoke Sky Hotel and all around the area are Pakistani Stalls and even Vegetarian stalls all halal of course
and at BSR there is a fantastic coffee shop akin to Starbucks coffee but at at our Kopitaim prices
Big Thanx for the info doc…
