hehe…this sound hilarious..well this is Murray Cod and i dont think they use this kind of fish to make those cod liver oil that you see in SCOTT EMULSION…those are made from Atlantic Cod (refer to this webpage http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cod)

While this Murray Cod, are too precious to be taken out from their waters and its a beautiful fish that hopefully will remain for the next few generation. The Department of Primary Industries in Vic are doing everything to keep this fish population by stocking them in selected river/dam. Lets hope it will remain there as long as it could.

Patogen bro,

You are most welcome, i might be wrong of what ive typed about this Murray Cod as this is my first time.

Yeah hopefully when you have a chance to fish the australian waters, lets hope it will remain mighty in our wild rivers/dam.

Hi Ming,
first time I looked in this section and look who I found? Great posting. The photos look better on computer than on your camera screen. Heehee. Small screen makes the fish look smaller. You didn’t do too badly for a “cat” either.
Unfortunately u didn’t see any Brownies, would have been fun. Saw 3 on a walk up a cliff in philip island once and boy did we break the 100 meter sprint records.
Do come back to visit us soon. We will go to Midura for the Grandaddy cods - 100 pounders.
PM me your malaysian mobile number and I will call you when I am there.
Cheers mate.

Thanks Ben,

Thank god the brownies wasnt active at that time. We have been delaying our cod trip due to the hot weather where the brownies will be active around.

Ben, im already missing melbourne so much and yes…definitely ill be back. Midura Grandaddy !!! I like the sound of it..eheh will look forward to it

Here is my mobile number 012 6611913…hope to see ya real soon..cheers

hey ming.. i think u miss mens gallery more than anything else in melb.. hehehe…!!

Nice catch! Does this fish fight like ‘siakap’ ?

hehe..sunny, men’s gallery doesnt have that strong addiction compare to those lovely fishing there…

Chuanjiek bro,

The Murray Cod doesnt fight like siakap and no where near the strength of the mighty barra.

Careful my friends. Mens Gallery may give you something permanent to remember Australia by. You certainly going to have to use a different bait. Perhaps what I prescribed in my Reminising post for fishing in Surfers paradise. Heehee.

Carry a rod and speak softly.

Ben,

Its actually Sunny is the one that is addicted to Men’s Gallery,Show Girls,Goldfingers and the list goes on..eheheh.More like a plastic paper bait will be the best, preferably a few sheets of plastic paper…hehe

Chuanjik,
Murray cod does a quick run (uses its body weight) then lose momentum. Feels like a good size Soon Hock. No acrobatics like siakap.

wah ming.. i don’t even know half of those names.. ur mum sent u to study here and u go to all those places.. shame on you.. haha..!! got VIP card for Goldfingers if u r interested.. hehe.. free private dance and meal.. keke… i’ll save for u ok.

u do get a few murray cod that fight super well though, i’d say 1 out of every 20 fish will put in an absolute full flight battle that makes u think u have hooked onto a carp. have seen cod take to the air on more than one occassion as well, but very rarely. they like to fight either down deep or mid water. hard to get the bigger ones to the surface bcs of their sheer size. on the boat is easier bcs u can kinda plane them to the surface as if u were fishing a stubborn tuna or ray that doesn’t want to come up.

Interesting… I bet it a lot of fun catching these fish. I will be fishing in ‘Tanjung Dawai’ for wild ‘siakap’ from a floating fish farm. Lots of escapee there..

Where about is Tanjung Dawai ? Sounds interesting as well.

If you get a chance to be around southern Australia. The native species should be on your list apart from the other mighty snapper/kingfish/mulloway !!..

Tanjung Dawai is in Kedah. Most of the Yan fishing boats dock here. The fish farm is located at the river mouth. There are lots of ‘ketang’ and some pretty big escapees if we are lucky to catch one. Me and my cousin will be fishing, drinking and hanging out, its been ages since I fish with him. It will be chinese new year and we get to hang out.

My uncle broke a rod there once. They were speculating either a big ‘siakap’ or ‘kurau’. Mysterious to us but they didnt land the fish.

Yes, I was in Australia visiting 6 years ago, long time. Didnt get a chance to go fishing, but would love to fish there if I get a chance

when u going to this place?

Ming,
what have you caught on your Nitro yet? You seem to be falling behind. I have nailed Silver Trevally, Seberau and Toman - all hard fighters I might add and it handled everthing admirably.
Due to the snags I locked up the Certate and pumped the Toman in under 2 minutes - not too bad for a 6kg rod eh?
I wonder what would have happened if I caught an 8kg to 10kg Toman on the rod?? Probably would have snapped it.

Ming,
I tried to call you but I only had your Melb mobile in my phone. Wonder what I did with your Malaysian mobile number.

Hey Ben,

Good to hear that you had heaps of fun !!..thats good at least you got your fix (for both)..ehehe..

Mate, definitely had caught a decent fish on the nitro, approx. 2-5kg patin has been landed on the rod and it works brilliantly. Knowing this patin species takes your line for a ride around the pond estatically. The rod performs so well that every single run and line stripping is felt. Not to forget the good taper on the rod. Honestly, a 10kg toman or watever fish could be landed on that rod, matter or how you take control of your rod and maneuver your fish in place.Remember not to high stick it !!..ehehe..

Not to sure whether you remembered, you called raymond and he was on the way back from a patin trip (i was wit him) and over heard your toman/haruan hunting wit headache.

No worries,Ben i guess ill get another chance to meet up wit you and the hu kahs..eheh..nice bunch of lads to fish wit huh ??.ehehe..lotsa foul mouth and plenty of fishing at the same time..ehehe..glad you enjoyed every bits of it !!..

Ming,
A 10kg Toman or whatever in a pay pond can be landed easily if you have the patience. A 10kg Toman in snaggy country is another matter. When you lock up the drag and the fish pulls something gives - usually in the order of hook, lip, line rod or reel. Heehee.
During our trip a Toman was lost right under our nose (not my hookup) as it made a last minute lunge and succeeded in getting to the weeds. It wasn’t that big (maybe 2+ kilos) but it was dragging the boat along (with 3 fishos on board). The reel wasn’t on lock up and the fish was lost.
So next time you are in Kenyir bring a back up rod. The Nitro is good but I think it has its limits too. BTW people keep talking about having caught 10kg tomans but I have yet to see a photo of one. Would like to see one.
The trip wasn’t so bad - some caught fish and others didn’t. Not an official tally but I think the group caught about 18 to 20 sebarau, 7 toman, 1 kelah and 4 or 5 Baung and some small Lampam.
I got 1 baby toman, 1 good size toman one decent Sebarau, one lampam and missed one kelah and one Seberau. Can’t complain.
