Collecting knives..

Mon,

Woit, apa ini, using 20-lb line at Towfoo???[:(!]
WE use 3 - 6-lb line only, long soft rods and size 2000 reels lah, for the patin & pacu!! Wah, must be desperate case, to use that “cheapo” rod…

Well, my take is, that rod can handle wild kelah and mega sebarau, no prob. So, tell me when the day is gonna be “Sunny”, okay![8D]

><<:>

Bum,

Aiseh, hang bukan pro macam bang aznir..ehehe..no le was jus trying out the rod on a heavier lbs line. It took off well !!!..ehh aper cheapo rod nih !!..

Guess who i met yesterday in tow foo, if u remember sluggo X.He was using the exact tribal rod !!! looks mighty strong as well..

Wat do u reckon on the tip on the nitro, a lil soft on its end but i guess u jus need to handle the rod rightly !!

Ming (hoping you stop calling me Bum[:(]),

There’s advantages in having a relatively soft tip (sex not included). Can cast smaller lures. Can cast softer baits too. When you are jungle fishing, you cant bring the whole fishin room, so a rod needs to do double duty.

I find the Nitro is great here. The Tribal’s tip is pretty ‘stumpy’. But that Berkley Series One 4 piece is the dog’s cahoonas for light line spinning. Let’s hope Purefishing can import more of it.

I say, we have inadvertently hijacked this knife thread lah! Sorry Samo and guys. Back to your side of the court!

JB,

Thousand apologies (no heart feelings mate)..ehehe. yeaps have to agree wit yer opinion and i hope pure fishing will bring in those lovely series 1 !! alrite we shall stop hijacking..anything PM me..cheers

Hey Samo,

The only knives i have are 2 nos 12" long Stainless steel Rambo knives with saw edge that can cut a big tree and Swiss Army knife!

Cheers

Nugget,

I can give u one tip: go to Evergreen, First Floor, Campbell Complex. They still have a few kukris. Not the big, heavy types, but smaller, more practical for jungle fishing and the like. Well made, in various designs, but traditional lah, unlike that Cold Steel one sold in Damansara Utama. Price range from RM100+ upwards.

Dude, with two ‘Rambo’ knives on hand, you’ve earned my respect! [:D]

Yes, I have some and they are sitting as display items on my shelves. Khuks are effective tools for only one purpose and that is to lop off someone’s head.. In the jungle, I think you better invest on a cheap parang..

Guys, has anyone here used Columbia river knife and Tools (CRKT) knives before? I saw one at ace harware which is a folder and doubles as a money clip. looked pretty cool and i think it was priced somewhere around the RM200 range. any comments guys?

I think the CRK&T knife you meant was the Halligan K.I.S.S. which is a cheap folder if you buy it off the internet.. (roughly below RM90 a piece excluding freight). Ace Hardware takes it on consignment from a company that sells Surefire flashlights called ‘Tropical Equipment’. Its good to carry around as an urban tool or for your office desk. Not heavy cutting chores.. Its surface finish tends to attract rust stain..

Yo Bro Evan,

Which Ace Hardware outlet you saw this money clip knife? I’m interested la.. Let me know bro. Also, Ace Hardware selling SureFire torch as well?

Cheers,
zillion

Zillionmax,

I was in Ace at Ikano Pwer Centre, near Ikea. They have surefire, and also a range of knives (mostly folding) by Bear. Didnt notice CRKT though…

Hello everybody
I’m a newbie here. I’ve always been fascinated by knives and just started my collection. Currenly my collection is made up mostly of Tramontina origin. I find them quite cheap and value for my money. I also have two piece of AITOR in my collection. Recently during the UFL warehouse sales, I managed to get hold of a Wenger SWISS Army and it was a real bargain. My most prized collection now is the Tramontina Patangal. It is awesome. The weight and the thickness of d blade make chopping a piece of cake. Of course I have others as well. Listed below is my current collection.

  1. Tramontina - Patangal, Camping Machete, Skinning, Hunter, Wooden Handle folder, 12inch Butcher
  2. Aitor - Survival n Commando Survival
  3. Wenger - Swiss Army Cyclist
  4. Rapala - Fillet
  5. Storm - Fillet

I’m currently planning some new acquisition but unfortunately folders are not my interest. I prefer fixed blades. Recently, I found a place offering J Marttini fillet and looks interesting. Maybe I’ll get one soon. So adios for now and till we meet again.

Evan,

You saw it at your Ace Hardware in PD or what?

Hi…

Have 2… One 15" Standard British Army-Horn handle (Kidnap by my father!!!), another special order 17" with wooden handle.. Ordered from a company at Dehradun, Uttaranchal. Both purchased while I was on “national servis” in India. Got it cheeper than those tourist showpiece on Indian Streets…

Not sure on the steel used but am very sure can do damage if sharpenned…

The co offered me for bulk purchase, unfortunately I was too busy to consider and more over not sure on the legal expect to bring them back home… may consider should I there be another Tour of Duty… hehehe…

Sorry dont have the photo now but they are sure pleasure to have…

oh and did I mentioned I was totally poisoned by this thread and have just finished the whole 14 pages… Thanks everyone for the priceless info..

am quite fascinated by knives in my teens and during by scouting days…still remember a senior came by to visit us one day and “forced” everyone of us to get one of those Victorinox with a saw… never regretted since…as we chop & saw bamboos during camping time to built tonnes of gadgets, that small little saw cut our sawing time by half (compared to the conventional saw used during “kemahiran hidup”) and resulted in more time for sleep (as we had no place to sleep if our platform tent (yes! old skool style built with bamboos and ropes) wasn’t finished in the first day. Sadly some “fool” borrowed it and used it to saw some steel pipes and has not been as sharp since… hmmm.. wonder if it can still be sharpened?

Also remember bringing that exact Victorinox (Paiseh sitting together with the Spydies…hahah) to Uncle Bob’s place and he helped me sharpen the blade to precision with his Not-For-Sale Ceramic Sharpener. Never seem to get it as sharp after that… :frowning:
