cruiser, u can order all those things online.
be careful though… u’re walking down a dark path…
one avail spool, n u’ll want aftermarket spools for all your reels. then u’ll change handles on all of them.
and then start to fit bearings wherever u can, and have reels with 15 abec-7 ceramic bearings! or even full ceramic bearings!
then u’ll go on to anodizing parts of your reel, and engraving!
at the same time, u’re buying all kinds of wood, cork, metals, acrylic, etc. and experimenting with shaping these materials.
then u’ll need to look for someone with a RM20,000,000.00 CNC machine to machine spools, gears, knobs, line guides, handles, frames, and a whole reel for you!
then u realize time to do rods…
u start with expensive overpriced japanese stock rods (n realize they’re not worth the money), then u start going down the path of matagi custom.
then u start machining components for your rods, u’re buying all kinds of wood, cork, metals, acrylic, etc. and experimenting with shaping these materials.
n u start looking for blanks in every country but Malaysia.
then u ask ppl to make blanks for u..
soon… u realize u have to run from ah longs.
and u never got a chance to fish before all the fish in the world go extinct in year 2038.
then u pick up a new hobby, like photography. hahaha!
too bad… no more nature and wildlife to photograph.
ooohhhhhhh, i see that you are talking about Mr Pot. Ya, I agree that very much sum up Mr Pot’s fishing journey in life.

Guys what I really want is Avail Spool for CQ51 but I cant seams to find it online. Anyone can help point me on the right track? While at it might as well get those Abec 7 bearings together. The handles and knob I will hold on to the stock for abit.

what do you intend to use the avail spool for?
just to give you an idea how elusive it was, more so that Avail dun ship their stuff to overseas. It has been out of stock for a long while, then on 29 July 2011 they launched a new batch of shallow spool for cq50 size. By 2 Aug, all sold out.
Avail spool doesn’t come with svs brake block, it’s either you purchase the avail’s magnetic brake bock to attach them or you got to pull the svs brake block from your stock spool and attached it to the avail spool. Once you do that, either you go purchase a separate conquest 50 spool from shimano, else you are stuck with avail spool. It’s not advisable to swap your svs brake block to and fro the avail spool and stock spool, the attachment unit might break.

Nah… no such luck or time, or even a modest quality to do so… hehehehe… thanks for looking up on me anyways lol…
I only have 13 years of fishing experience, so must beri tunjuk ajar!
knht, thanks for letting me know. At least now I can cross out the list on using 1 spool for finesse and 1 spool for others since the swapping changeover isnt advisable. As u can guess originally I plan on the avail spool for finesse application with lures 3g and below.
Now am thinking if it is not advised to be changable then it might just be easier to get CQ51S for the finesse purpose rather than tinker it.
That being the case, would u think that switching the bearings into Abec 7 going to smoothen out the cast much? Need your shared thoughts since I believed u have tried n seen it compared to the stock reel. Cant do much since the Avail isnt so availble now.
sound more like the kettle that the humble pot hehe. mind u, I spend 80% of my fishing life in the field, 10% working the cast, 5% talkcock the lastly 5% upgrading old reels

Well my apologies bro,
the fact is… since the day you posted this thread i already read it even without a single reply on it at all
but truth hurts and to cut story short… don’t think i’m going to post a review on tackles anymore over here, no point… esp with shallow minders(ppl living in their own worlds, fan boys, school dropouts, mentally disabled) lurking around like sharks here
i love MFN, it’s the first ever forum i ever joined and probably the only tat’s left. I’ve learned practically almost everything bout fishing i know here, theory would be half mag/online and MFN. Now that i try to repay MFN by delivering some well stated truth and hard-earned experience, ppl reject it, altho it’s plain common sense(ofcos it’s common sense i type direct from spec n personal experience).
There’s a wealth of knowlegde to be gained here , by those ever kind hearted and well minded Sifu. I wonder where they’ve gone, but i think i finally know why now… altho it pains me, but i still think fishing is the best medicine, i rather enjoy my fishing, i’m not needed here anyway… cheers bro.
if anything just add me in FB using my email address stated herein or simple just email me n i’ll try to help the best i could. So those anyone whom honestly need my help
Disclaimer: those tat think i talk poultry, nonsense or junk here are not welcomed to add me

CQ51s is as elusive as avail spool, you probably can get the latter easier.
Another solution is, you get an avail spool, and then get a stock 51 spool as spare. Pull the svs brake block from the spare stock spool and attach it to the avail spool, in that way you have the option of using you stock spool and the avail spool. TJS has a spare stock 51 spool for sale.
To me, i simply get another cq50. so, i have a cq50 with avail spool and a stock cq50 to use [:D]

Cruiser,
Dun have to look for CQ51S.
If you want 2 CQ reels- one for real finesse (below 3g), and the other for light to medium-light use… Just get another CQ51 and then order the shallow spool and 4-pin brake set (including the spool casing) from Shimano.
The total for that shallow-spooled CQ51 will cost the same as a CQ51S if you can find a CQ51S in good condition in the first place.
Even better, you have a spare stock spool with 6-pin brake set, that you can use occasionally.
If u got the money, change all your bearings to full ceramic (not to be mistaken with stainless-steel-casing ceramic bearings). Hehe…
And then let us know. We will go over and test. Haha!
FYI, if you change every single bearing in your CQ51 to high quality full ceramic bearings, it could cost more than the reel itself. Haha.
Or… Just get some quality Abec-7 stainless-steel-casing ceramic bearings (RM40-50 each), for just the spool. Which is what most ppl do. Especially when you got 10 reels and wanna upgrade all of them!

Bro havent really met you since Im new poster in this forum but I have read some of the topics hot n cold. I respected your rights of not posting reviews after all everyone is entitled to their believe posted or not posted. However in my limited understanding of this forum is that the day people fight to bring forth their thinking is the day thoughts are challenged and thus advancement can be made alternatively, the day people prefer to remain silent its a sorry time for learning.
As you mentioned, shallow minders(ppl living in their own worlds, fan boys, school dropouts, mentally disabled…why bother lah. Everywhere also got loh this is real world. Do we cease to live because there are such a breed of people? Its like saying Im not going to fish in this lake anymore as there is tomans because I only want sebarau. Im perhaps in my 40’s already so I can say take things with a pinch of salt and life is too short to take things personally lor.
There are always 2 sides to the coin, take the good and learn how to handle the bad then we will evolve into a better breed. Keep the cool bro. Happy to see u back again and hope for u to have a change of mind and participate lah. I need help and many can be helped too when they read these topics. How eventually readers perceives what they read, let them have the benefit to decide lah…like they say “Mai Khek Khi, Mai Kek Ka Ki” Cheers bro[:)]

Bro nyamaoan, tht is a very good advice thank you. It is strange that Shimano still design their spool drag with 6 breaks. Never have I gone beyond using more than 2 brakes. Perhaps this is something positive that Daiwa saw when they put 2 brakes centri it into their PX.
Back to topic, dont think I will be getting the 2nd CQ51 unless its on sale el-cheapo. If I were to get another CQ it will be the 101 DC. So looks like I have to put the spool thoughts aside for the moment until the urge of the dark force comes again. That leaves me the options of bearings upgrade. Does full ceramic bearings performs better than ABEC 7? I meant the smoothness. Also one question remains unanswered, how does ABEC 7 bearings compared to the stock bearings in CQ? again I meant the smoothness.
Yeah u read my mind, if any upgrades in bearings it will be at the spool ends where it matters most to the cast. I can live with stock bearings for the rest [:D] That is unless the pull of the dark force overwhelms [}:)]

aiya, no need to keep away or distance yourself jes because some disagree, oppose or tear/put down ideas, personal experiences
we’re individuals with individual minds and perceptions, skills and talents - dat includes maturity and ability to absorb, understand, apply - scope is plenty broad

and then there’s me … lol … nuff said
there’s good camaraderie here
there’ll always be those who think alike, think alike up to a certain extent, disagree, agree to disagree [:p] and oppose

the problem is this… “kiang si ho, mai keh kiang”… a lot of keh kiang fellas here edi very unbearable… just share2 among ourselves lah
You’re welcome to join the purefishing baitcasting clinic this saturday at FV from 9am onward… altho i’m sure you’re already an accomplished caster… but who knows… we may very well learn some new tricks from each other, i’m always eager to learn from old salt hehehe as i’m just beginner lol. I hope the other more advanced casters like knht, nyama and gerard will grace the event with their presence
I only have 13 years of fishing experience, so must beri tunjuk ajar!
If like that then u shouldnt worry lah. Just write your opinions and reviews. Give readers the benefit that they have the inteligence to know which is which. If people critise then u learn to write better ones. But u must write lah…if not how to share2? hehehe
I’m a greenie beginer lah…not accomplish caster to u guys…paiseh. I had touched BC a long time ago but had since rested from it a long…long time too due to work demands then. Believe me when I say that my lines have not touched water for over a decade. To digress a little, in my fishing days the only line we know is mono, dont even know whats a braid to let u imagine how outdated my understanding goes. On my first field session with friends, I come with my old faithful Culcutta 200 (really the smallest reel I have from the old collection) and my fishing buddies asked me “wah u want to fish whale arr?” That really landed me in stiches. Am amazed at how small the reels goes today and I concluded that the superlines were what revolutionised the reel size of today.
Coming back to the invite, I would love to join in the BC clinic but Im far from u guys lah. If anyone can take some videos of the event assuming the organisers allows it and post here would help alot of people. Thanks for the kind thoughts though. I really appreciated it. Maybe one day can fish with the real accomplished casters like u guys. Until then, must caress my new toy more first, else really paiseh to cast beside u guys lah…heheh
