Deas Aman Pond ( Salt Water )

Dear All,

I am totally confused as to what is the best bait to use too. However, I normally use live prawns most of the time. I managed to hook up siakaps in many occasions. I used casting method, so even a dead prawn can be used in this method of fishing. Recently I have not been so lucky - so I changed to a combinations of kembong fish and live prawns - still not taker. Now even more confused!

Although I managed to hooked up a 9.75kg siakap and won 2nd prize using live prawn - now I walked home empty most of the time. So, it is a question of luck??? One angler said to me it is actually the intervention of the supernatural being - GOD! If He gives, we get fish.

So, pray harder that we may be blessed!

In Desa Aman you will find a fair spread between the float as well as the bottom fishos - and they both catch fish. The best answer we can give is therefore to watch what others are doing - and even in this case - notice that they vary their methods from time to time. Do what they do is the best advice. Again, in the case of Desa Aman - this is a popular pond - so be considerate to the guys near you. It is not a good idea to introduce yourself by snagging somebody else's line ya ? [:D]
Thanks Mike for the adivse. Maybe I change my question...what kind of set up are you guys using for salt water pond? Am currently using 5'5" rod (12-30g), Surfix-Matrix 20lb line and Daiwa Regal X 2500. Pls kindly share your setup here [;)]

how is the catch there lately? is the fish more agresive at least same as before cleaning the pond?

The set up by Jeffyap are ok, rod and reel is concerned. Whereas the main line 12 to 15 lb will be good enough for pay pond. I use 8 lb mono as main and 30 lb as leader. For crowded pond 20 lb main is good as you can bring up the fish faster than any finer line, hence chances of snagging your neighbor’s lines will be minimized. In paypond you have anglers with all kind of characters. A good etiquette angler will reel up all their lines when their neighbor has a hook up and help you to net the fish. Whereas other would just can’t bother. Choose to fish near to an angler with the earlier character, you will enjoy fishing with him and start building up friendship then on.
Salt water paypond I normally fish depending on the time and weather condition, I will divide the water into 3 levels i.e. top, mid and bottom. Depend on what time you are fishing, for siakap, normally they will feed at different level of water at different time. As a general guide:
Night : Top level
Early morning: Top to mid level
Hot afternoon: Bottom
As the day getting cooler: Mid level
Late evening : Moving from mid to top level.
Should you use live prawn as bait:
Top water: Tie yr short shank 1/0, 1 or 2 hook directly to yr
leader, hook the prawn near to the tail cast and retrieve
slowly.
Mid water: Same rig except add a split shot lead to to your leader,
cast and retrieve slowly. (It will be a killer if you add
a small spinner and retrieve at a faster speed, some pond
might forbid it check it out before using them).
Bottom: Same rig, except tie a No. 1/2 or 1 bomb or tear drop sinker
with a foot of fine mono line with a snap and hook it to
your swivel (I prefer this as the sinker is removable), cast
and retrieve slowly dragging the sinker along the bed
surface.
Try this and see the difference. Let me know the result.
Best regards and happy fishing.

Dear Maguro,
You have very good analysis in the paypond fishing experience. The levels of water where the feeding occurs does make sense. Now that you have mentioned on the level, I just recall one incident whereby I did all the right things - casting and retrieving religiously but no bite. The set-up was 15lb line with 30 lbs leader - using 1/0 or 2/0 short shank hooked at the tail of the live prawn. No bite until I attach a small sinker. The first cast and the bait was taken straight away! The fish must be feeding at the bottom - it was in the hot afternoon!

..what kind of set up are you guys using for salt water pond? - jeff

My own personal favorite is a 18lb max, 6 1/2 foot Fenwick rod, Daiwa BG13 with 12lb braid, 30lb Asso leader, size 1/0 or 2/0 Eagle Claw octopus hook.

The rod is a bit long, and quite often I need the help of a friendly neighbor to scoop up the fish - but the length allows me some distance as I use very little weight - and I use the same set up when I go to the large ponds.( Save some money lah ! )[:D]

Hi Mike,
Tackle set for paypond are very subjective towards individual preference.
6 1/2’- 7’ 6-18 lb rated rod are just nice for longer casting and quite safe when you are sitting under the shade, the rod would not hit the zinc roof when you cast. Should you have chance fishing at those paypond which are not so crowded, try using ultra light set with 4 - 10 lb rated rod and smooth drag reel of 500 series with 6 to 8 lb line, just feel it, any fish you get with the set will sure make you happy for the next few days. I got a 4 plus kg siakap at the Bukit Idaman paypond which won the jackpot with my ultra light. You can imagine the around 10 minutes thrill landing the fish.

Hi all,

Happy New Year.. What is the report for this pond recently, it’s been almost a month since the last time i been there.. Anyone been catching fish at this pond lately, how is the catch.. Well been going thru the treads, i think Bro Maguro is right with water level feeding and also with the ultralight set.. When i first went to D.A, i use 6 ft(8-15lb)rod, 3000 size reel (any brand), and 15lb mono line, 25lb mono leader.. Recently i change my setup to 5 ft(5-10lb)rod, 2000 size reel, 10lb breaded line.. It’s easier for to cast and the fight with the fish is much better but sometime i still use my 6ft rod. ( tukar angin maa ).. As for the bait i prefer using live prawns & lampam.. i normally use 2 hooks but with my light setup can only use 1 hook, the bait is alredy to heavy for my light setup.. I try to mix the bait when i’m using 2 hooks (1 live prawn & 1 lampam) it doesn’t work very well, if you want to use 2 hooks then i recon to use both hooks with same type of bait..

Happy Fishing!!!

Dear Maguro - I completely agree with you. While I cannot say that I am using an " ultralight " set up, my favorite for the old Uncle Chows pond was a 6 foot ( max 10 lb ) rod, Daiwa BG 10, 8 lb braid, and 15 lb leader with a single size 1 or 1/0 octopus hook.

It was quite often possible a year ago to hook up Patin’s in excess of 10 Kg - yeah … with a clean small pond ( and with me following the fish around the pond ), it still can take up to 20 minutes to land one of these … any longer, and the chance for a successful C&R would be reduced.

My slightly heavier equipment for Desa Aman is simply because of the crowd that seems to be present almost every day - have fun, but don’t inconvenience others. Given a choice - I would also prefer to go lighter. [:)]

I concur with Maguro. The set-up is really up to individuals. The lighter set-up will give you more feel and the sensitivity decreases as you go for higher set-up. There are pros and cons though. The advantages of lighter set-up are more feel (more sensitive), longer casting but you need to be careful with the handling as the line can easily snap. The heavier set-up will not give you the distance but the line will not snap so easily…
So, we are living in this world of choices and options. That is why we all are made so special with varieties. Remember “beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder”…

Kenchen,
Want to take up the challenge fishing in the pay pond one of these days???

Thanks,my preference is still the sea and wild ponds.

If that is the case, then when do we go???

Anybody turun Desa Aman tomorrow?

Have been attracted to haruan fishing lately. So, the pay pond siakap fishing has been neglected. Find it more satisfying fishing in the wild… BORN TO BE FREE!!!

lamsterz,
Where do you live?
Do you have a 4x4?

Mostly in Rawang, Bukit Beruntung, Kundang, Tanjung Malim and any place that we can cast our lures…

Bro SL, maybe we can ask the operator to put in Localised salt water Haruan or Bujuk in Desa Aman Pond ( this is what they used to do in USJ pond 8 years ago), so as to satisfy your present crazing passion for these snakeheads.. What is your opinion ?

It is not the same. The environment - forest, mosquitoes, terrains, streams, swamp, chopping…etc These are the real stuff.

Bro SL, do you fished in the nearby Rose Garden.. it’s real stuff isn’t it plus the sweet smell of roses.. be a valentino on valentine day too.?
Anyway wishing all who frequent Desa Pond a happy and fruitful CNY.. cheers!
