As announced the Fly Fishing conclave took place this morning.
On behalf of Tackle Box and Psage Merdana, I wish thank all the participants who took part and for their overwhelming support in this event.
Congratulations to the 5 winners
Iskandar - First Prize Winner
Voon & Raisal - Joint Second Prize winners
Shahril - Fourth Price winner
Azhar - Fifth Price winner
We also take this oppurtunity to thank all the Marshals for a great job done. A special Thanks to the management & Staff of Empangan Air Kuning for their kind hospitality, to Nazrin for the Great Food. To Dronfly for his Fly tying demonstration. It was truly one of the more popular stations. Many of us I believe saw a totally new dimension to Fly tying and the fact that there is really no limit as to what flies one can create except to the limits we set in our minds. To all the Field Marshals for their great support and patience, braving the heat, minding their respective stations. To our Chief Marshal (Dr. Ling) the mastermind behind the events and to all those who helped in making this event a success.
Was a great event! Learned loads from all the sifus there. Made new friends and shared laughs about the Hula Hoop challenge! To the organisers and the Marshalls, Bravo!
Very special thanks to the Organizer, Mr. Nick Ooi, Mr. David, Mr. Viviek, Dr. Ling and all the Marshalls for organizing such a wonderful event. And for all the participants, thank you for your support. It was indeed a wonderful get together event and from what we observe yesterday, everybody is the winner, maybe not in all the technique which we tested through the events created, but in most of it. A lot of skills need to be polished, even for the veterans in fly fishing. Never ending stories when it comec to fishing especially fly fishing.
And one great lesson in fly tying, we can really recycle old and unwanted things, especially when its coming from the loved one… I’m talking about the pantyhose. I guess the spelling is right. Mr. Dron forget to remind you all that if you’re targetting the fish that uses smell as their target, DO NOT wash the material.
On behalf of FFLCS, we wish to thank you all for making this great event a success.(Will try to post the pics later).
Was a great event. We should have regular gatherings like this to build the sport, perhaps on a quarterly basis?..then an annual clave lasting the whole day. This will allow us more time for things like fellowship and sharing, flytying sessions, flyfishing instructions … maybe even an exhibition and car boot sale of fly fishing equipment.
I particularly enjoyed and learned a lot from Dron’s fly tying demo and instruction … we should have more fly fishos like him … ever willing to share, humble and friendly. I know those from S’Pore will agree with me. Thanks Dron.
All in all it was a great event … many thanks to all, esp. Dr. Ling, Nick O, Nik H and Vivek.
Oops, left out David … and “Nik H” should be Nik R…sorry lah. … now where’s my daughter’s panty hose?.. getting old like me, my wife don’t wear them anymore.(not that I use them myself)[:D]
Congratulations to all of the participants too. All of them are winners because they took to the challenge and did their best. We even have a young man of around 12 to 15 year old participating. There were some other fresh beginners participating too. They were not held back by their lack of experience.
If I am not mistaken yesterday was the first time a game that is designed to test all aspect of fly casting was held in Malaysia. Hopefully the participants will gain some experience about the finesse and power control in their fly casting which are often neglected. Even the marshals who are mostly veterans in fly fishing were learning when setting up the games for the fly fishing fair.
What I like most about the event is participants are the stars… there were no personality idolizing, no showing off by the veterans, no long long speeches… he he he… Moreover this fair was jointly organised by Taclebox, Psage Merdana, FFLCS with the help of some volunteer fly fishing veterans. All in the good name of the sport.
There were some areas in the organising can be improved further but considering the fact this is a first time fly casting fair event and organisers are still learning, the end result is quite well delivered. Hopefully the next event will be better organised.
