Fly Fishing Photos

In all my time at TackleBox,i have had the priviledge of seeing novices turn into veterans over the years.I have also seen many curious about the sport, take it up ,only to give up after awhile. But there are also those who started and today are totally passionate about flyfishing.I see a growing population, and i think all the old guys should feel proud about this.By the way Novice when did you say your birthday was Ah…? I have an Abel i dont use that the manufacturers accidentally spilled a variety of paint on.

Talking of GLoomis fly rods, Ubob is the first one to bring it into Malaysia. In fact is was Ubob who first introduced fly fishing equipment into Malaysia market. Not many people seems to know that. He he he.. Of course Nick took it to another level lah…

I can only wish someone will gimme a fly rod and reel as birthday present. Specifying brand some more is like thinking of robbing a bank. [:p] If you see me get caught robbing a bank, it was Sage XP 9wt and Abel Super 7 (no those stupid gaudy patterns please which me think ugly like someone with constipation poo on it) that came accross my mind. Then my next birthday wish will be going to the Seychelles for a month.[:D][:D] That I have to rob Bank Negara.

I should have no regrets poisoning you then, knowing how passionate you are about waving the long wand. May have cost you a few limbs, but I’m sure you have no regrets so far.[:D]

You just reminded me that my first Loomis 8wt. was from uBob, and I still have that rod, tho’ it has now taken a back seat to my “new” Scott, which I’m hammering them Pacus with.[:D]

And talking about dreams… mine would be flybumming for a month around the Florida Keys/Bahamas area with a Scott 8wt./Abel Super 7 combination … the smaller bones, Tarpons, Permits and Reds would be enough … at my age, fighting the 100+lb. Tarpons would be suicidal. In fact, anything above 20kg. sudah banyak susah lah.[xx(]

Oi Mr.Ooi,

My birthday comes before his lah… got another “dirty colored” Abel or not?[:D]… sh*^@y green, orange or red oso never mind.[:D]

Whilst on the subject of rods & reels, I have just sent in my 5 wt. for Nick to attach a fighting butt. He did a good job attaching one to the good Doctor’s Echo rod…certainly saves one the black and blue bruises on the stomach when using a 5wt. against them brutes.[:D]

Everyday is a birthday to me. I was born early in the morning at 1AM. So tomorrow by 1 AM is my birthday lah. I going to be a day older. I wish for someone giving me an Abel reel with some spilt paints on it. I don’t mind because I can scrap it off later using Duckie. [:D][:D]

I am challenging you to bring fly fishing in Malaysia to another level. Ha ha … Let’s play who blink first. Double handed rod, reel and line. I think there is potential in this segment. I dare to say you’ll have at least 10 ready customers if you bring in the right setup with right pricing- not just any broom sticks. Dare to take my challenge Agent OO1? [:p] You may think it is too risky but the way I see it is because none of us have master this segment yet. That is why nobody have discovered the advantages of double handed setup.

Lim peh ka li kong, I dare you, you know?[}:)][}:)]

Okay lah. After all these years one hand don,t give the pleasure anymore, than we shall use both our hands to get more satisfaction. It could bring out forbidden sensations you never knew you had.Dont say i didnt warn you ok ? Anyway drop by and let me know the specifics.I think its a good idea.

Lim peh pun ka li kong,wa boh kia li aiy.

Novice and Dr.No,

Glad that somebody hs finally brought it up. Traditionally, bouble handers are rods for Spey casting for Salmon. The Yanks have now popularized them for saltwater fishing from the surf, and has brought the weights down to 6 wt. where the normal overhead cast can be employed. Tho’ heavier (above 8oz.) these longer rods achieve greater casting distances and better handling over the surf.

Locally, apart from master Yong and his double handers, I’ve not seen anyone in action so far. Iianm, Dr. has one brought in from S’pore.

I’ve been looking at TFO’s Pro Series range of double handed rods which are very reasonably priced. Afaik, they have a few models ranging from 6 to 10 wt. and from 12’6" to 15’. There is an 8wt.x 12’6" which would be great to start with, casting from the shore.

Shoot, this’ll mean even more rods and lines to buy.[xx(][:D]
The wife complains “you spend so much $$$ on equipment to catch fishes and then release them somore”…“You may have a point, dear, this is definitely the last one … but then again, how can one put a price on happiness?” …[:p][}:)][:D]

Aha…
Good. Agent 001 has taken the bait. That saves me from having to swim with sharks while looking for pearl at the bay. E-bay. Muahahaha…

Tony, we have been talking about this since like a year ago? Yong is the master but he is too timid to share his experience. That guys has out of the earth theories but to me, he is still a master in catching fish. He does it at where nobody else does. I don’t call the inaugural Malaysia Fly Fishing Competition winner “Master” for nothing. It is just that he is too timid to share sometimes.

Apart from Yong, I know Yew Kong, Irhamy, Kok, Belayong, Doc, you and I are also itching to explore this segment. Imagine if we start catching fish at spots that previously never been explored because of limited back casting space. Then the long rods will start to take its place in Malaysian Fly Fishing. Or course things could turn both way. That is why I challenge some ppl mah… [:D]

Apart from TFO Lefty Pro which I was told is too soft for long rods, how about the mid range products of the other manufacturers? Do Winston Ibis (Ascent), Sage Fli etc have long rods. What about blanks? TFO TiCr too fast, too heavy? Yanks or traditional setup? What line to use for our water? Grand spey? Quad tip? Walau eh macam-macam ada… Got me excited, really.

Actually it is not that I am paiseh. I am not the paiseh type. It is just it feels funny like watching yourself on video kind of feeling if you know what I mean. I have nothing against ppl who are doing it. It is just me. Weird…

Mr.Ooi,

Please call me before Irhamy collect his rod. He he he…

Flyfishing With Amin

Hi Guys,

Picture of a Talapia on Fly…

Weight 2 RL Winston LT5 Rod, Weight 3 Scientific Angler (Stillwater) Line, Sage Reel and a 10lb Tippet.</font id=“green”>

[/img]
Location - Kota Kemuning Pond

[:)]Hi..fly boys , well good catch..but i hardly see you boys with “BIG” TOMAN on fly nowdays..huh?

Wah…if Uncle Amin put his bonefish picture here, I also want to put lah. [:D]

If we catch nice fish, no harm being proud of it, right?

This fish took me to the backing 4 times before I brought it in.

Caught with GLoomis GL3 7 wt with Scientific Angler floating line with a chartreuse/white Clouser Minnow tied on no. 2 hook.

Pak Amin,

Hello Pak Amin. How are you doing? [8D]

Just curious… the second fish that Tan is holding in your latest post…is that a tenggalan(sp?) or lampam?
