I do find it fascinating that threads such as these have the highest hit ratings of any on the forum. I’m not sure if this is out of interest in the subject, or because people want to watch the “circus”. If you post, rather than just view, it’s because you have an opinion. Which means you’ve actually thought about it. Score one to the messenger. He got one through!

Jass bro. You seem to be taking this discussion a tad too personal already. Yes I agree with you that different people have different views and different standards. Some will keep it to them selves and some will like to voice it for the rest to hear or read.
And that is the basis of a Forum. Discussion. Reading back on this thread, the discussion was heated, but not aimed at anyone directly. You came in with some strong views, and that is your right to do so. So why get heated up about someone elses views? Relax lah.

Hey Jassmen bro, i seriously do not wanna reply anymore to drag this disscussion astray… If you have anything pls email me instead or we can meet up over a cuppa of Teh tarik.
Btw i mentioned “if” you’re not interested why bother reading… I did not pass any judgement on you. Nobody is bragging here its just expression of views… [;)]
Cheers

Geno, firstly, thanks for the cup of teh tarik.
afro, there is nothing wrong putting in comments like what you said “all has their respective views”. From the beginning of my posting, I did not raise any subject against c&r and did I get personal with anyone until a “fine row” was highlighted.
Whatever had been said is a follow through and I would say it is some sensible arguments. Heat? Yea and it is common to appear in forums We are mature enough to understand unless someone is sensitive and starts calling names and “branding” them.

Bro Jassmen,
u seem to take this very personally.. it seems like u might hav had bad experience wit CnR anglers n thus hav this personal thing against anyone who preaches CnR. If this is so, i apologize on their behalf.. What Marlin is just trying to tell is the benefits of CnR n not that its a must. i belive in CnR as i dont really fancy fish. I fish for fun n when there’s no need to take them home, why not release it.. It depends on the motive. If u fishing for haruan wit the intention of eating it, then its your right to take it home to eat it. But it will be a shame if u take home as many as ur coleman will fit, n then realize u hav too many n dont know what to do wit it. i am too guilty of taking home all my fish when i was a kid n never understood conservation.. so its not my place to say that everyone must practice CnR but rather i would say everyone should practice bag limits… afterall, we are anglers n not meat hunters or nelayans..

Earth is NOT inherited from our ancestors BUT borrowed from our children!

But those are your own belief.
i experience you as an “anglerist”.
Talking of name calling, what is an anglerist?
I guess it could be one who is anti-angling,
or singles out one type of angler,
or maybe even a blend of angler and any other 'ist word, perhaps conservationist, that would be nice, thanks.
There is no right or wrong, there is no good or bad. We have one common theme amongst us and that is we like to catch fish. Maybe that is where the similarity ends. However, that common theme should be a strength for us as a collective. Perhaps we should focus our frustrations elsewhere and actually start to lobby or petition for a ban on illegal nets/poisons/bombs etc. At least that would be constructive, and more likely to result in something than this childish bickering in a forum (only viewed by us anglers).
We are all responsible for our actions & saying that rod n line doesn’t have an impact on the fishs’ ecosystem is rather naive. Every little helps and every fish returned has the opportunity to breed. Take Subang Jaya lakes as a case study - you (well I haven’t) do not see nets or poisons or bombs there, just immense angling pressure and catches there are getting harder and harder, the fish getting fewer and fewer. A lot of ponds in KL and klang valley (plus many other areas) have the same story - - more fish come out than are being replenished and predominantly by RnL.
I guess people have different motives but personally I like to CATCH fish. For me this is the fun part – although I do also get satisfaction from releasing that biggie. Feeling them revive in your hands and power back into the deep is very rewarding for me. Others will enjoy a fine fresh fish supper and feel proud to have caught it that very day.
The intention of this debate (I hope) is not to divide us. It should be to understand each others opinions and to agree there is no right or wrong. The middle ground (which has been mentioned several times before) is simply to be conservative with your haul.
I think we all need to get into perspective in our minds the reasons why we fish and what we enjoy. As we are ALL rod and line anglers the common theme which makes us all brothers is the fact we like to catch fish. If eating your fish and handing out your catch is more important to you than the thrill of the hunt and the fight, then seriously, you should reconsider your hobby.
I know I would prefer to catch 100 fish in a day and release all of them than to catch only 10 and take them home for the table.
But that is just me; maybe I am an “anglerist"… [^]

You speak my mind Fizzy! Nicely written, good job..[:)]
I too happen to have great satisfaction when i release my catches.I also believe every bit of conservation effort do count.. Maybe i’m naive for believing in it. But what the heck, anglerist or fashionable as you think it may seem… I am proud to be part of it[^].. Because i do not care what other people categorize me or judge me as… As long my intention is pure.[:D]

Last night, hang_nga_hu and jassmen met up at Laguna Kelana for TT to talk about CnR, although jassmen spent more time checking out the Indonesian girls.
Below are excerpts of the conversation:
HNH: Hey wassup bro! Nice to finally meet you!
Mr J: My name is jassmen. But you can call me Hugh. My wife calls me Hugh for some odd reason.
HNH: Hugh… Jassmen? You’re kidding right?
Mr J: Yeah… like Hugh Jackman lah! The Xman guy!
HNH: Hugh Jassmen… Huge Ass Man…
Mr J: Hey! That’s my name! Don’t wear it out! (hearty laugh)

80% of the world fish is depleted. especially the big ones due to commercial netting and overfishing. its written in papers n internet. as an angler, we cant do much actually. so everyone must play their part with a little bit of conservation in their minds. we only can push our government to do something about it rather than sitting on the issue. its sad,coz too bad our country does harbor the tidak-apa-attitude/besok-lusa kinda menthology.
angling reaps in 6 billion revenue in gears/resorts/tourism in the USA. malaysia maybe 6 million? but our fishes here are 100 times better than there! y are we losing out? if we can maintain our gamefish and uphold the law, in the future we can afford to start our TOMAN Pro Fishing Tourneys… 100K for each win not attractive? or u prefer to make that 100 ringgit from every damn sale u catch/net? look at the bigger picture!
pro guides who take ppl out sportfishing earns maybe RM150 a day. a whole days worth of catch only how much? do the math! and in the long run, as the fish stock depletes.. and the government laying eggs, whos gonna be responsible? u dont see any successful lake/river/sea fisherman driving BMW or MERCs right? coz they are only earning enough to survive. i hope one day we can make it big like the US or Japan.
my dream is to be a professional angler, maybe be a tackle/rod/lure tester which earns 10k a month. is it possible here? no! … Japan, USA ? YES!!! think about it… maybe someone got the power to do it in Malaysia, please save our fishes
fish breeding center like in Australia, breeding salmon n trout are very successful. very interesting and easy. hope the government will do something like that. prof eddy tan is amazing for his kelah conservation. but we need to take it a notch higher, we can professionally breed them in tanks. but sadly, funds is the issue.
excuse me for my messy postings, hope u get the idea =)
