kevin,

Mounting the multiplier or Bait Caster reel is the opposite of spinning reel or in other word TERBALIK, like the photo shown by MR.SA. The rod ring or guide be point to the sky and for spinning reel the guide point to the ground.

I taught my son fishing at the age of 9 and teach him surf when he was 12 years old using a 10 footer rod/Spinning reel, personally I think 8 to 9’ is ideal length as a starter for kids this age and as for the reel go for small to medium size something Spinning size 4000 will do, mind it weight, must not too heavy. At 13/14 year old taught him how to handle a multiplier with a 12/13 footer rod.

From experience.

Cheers.

So where is Saujana Putra? Would like to go n introduce the ‘other’ fishing style to my boys.

Yup…for newbie…best is start with a spinning sets. Like what BroOnn say..a 10ft rod pair with a size 4000 to 5000 spinning reel is the best match. Load it with 20lbs mono line. Rig up a 2 hooks one up one down apollo rig. Easy to learn and cast. Not much problem. If U can find a thin diameter rod blank like the loomis n Franklin type wil be even better.

As for pairing the reel on a multiplyer rod or a spinning rod…there is advantage and disadvantage.
1)A multiplyer rod has more n smaller guide. For a 12ft rod, it can have from 8 up to 12 guides with tip. Reason for so many guide is to prevent the line from touching the rod blank when the rod is bending during fighting a big fish. It will cause the line get abrasion and may breakoff. So if U pair a spinning reel on this rod, due to the smaller n many guide, during casting as the line goes out in spinning style, it may slower down the line running out and your casting distance is reduce.

  1. A spinning rod has less n bigger guide. It normally have only around 6 to 7 guide with bigger guide nearer to the butt section. This is to let the line running out smoothly if U pair it with a spinning reel. But U can also pair it with a multiplyer reel. The advantage is due to the lesser n bigger guide, during casting, the line run out faster and U may gain some distance over this. But the disadvantage is the line will touch the rod blank if U happen to fight a big fish.

So best is match it properly according to the reel. A multiplyer set tackle the rod guide is facing up pointing to the sky. For spinning, the rod guide should be facing down pointing to the ground.

Taking ELITE highway to KLIA, if you from Sg.Besi taking KESAS highway and after Subang Jaya there an exit to JB/KLIA, you take this exit after you will find 1st exit to Putra Height, after this is the exit to Suajana Putra approx 4km from Putra Height exit, there a signboard, after Suajana it will be exit to Purajaya/Cyberjaya, then RnR Dengkil, further will be exit to KLIA. If you `come from Nilai or Bangi, it will reverse.

Anyway for ur info this weekend me and the gang won’t be casting. I’m going back to KT till 18th March.

Cheers.

Wow I’m new to this…Interesting…the learning never stops even in fishing…

Hi Lightline,

I guess that’s why I’m still glued to surfcasting coz there’s so much to learn and master.

It’s not just the fishing’s peculiar rigs, tackles, accessories etc. but equally important is the casting ability and techniques.

Just when you thought you’ve acquired almost all that you need to know… suddenly comes another new ball game which is more technical and demanding, the art of sport casting.

You are right…interesting indeed.

MSC

hello 2 all sifus, i’m just curious, isn,t the surf rigs same with the sea rigs??i mean, can i use the ‘ordinary sea rigs’ type when i do surfcasting??

FYI, i got a 12’ Shakespear tidewater and shimano nexave 4000..is it this setup ok?

cheers!
