Rods opinion - Lemax Black Rose

Anyone has exprience with the Lemax Black Rose? I saw one at Tackle Box, about 5’6", slim & light. But i heard somewhere that Lemax rods are prone to break under pressure, anyone can confirm or refute that?

Chris bro,

Not sure if they break often…

Own several before but none tat i like and none tat i would like to keep. So mostly sold or dumped. Their components are just lame cheap… All but one of my lemax rod hav guides tat still usable today. Rod guide is a serious issue for me bout lemax, as it cant stand even a few trip! However not too sure bout now la, long time no buy their product. For the price point i rather save up a lil and get something far better…

Novice angler here, any constructive advices greatly appreciated. Thank you

lemax produces some fine rods actually. problem is quality inconsistency.

i have had a Storm Legend rod which is a wonder to cast with, yet there are friends who complain that it is a crappy rod for the price.

the Slim Max series of rods aren’t too bad at all, but same thing with quality consistency.

if u find one at a good price, double, or triple check it before committing. i’ve bought a few and they have worked well for me, whilst there are also many more lemons lying around. maybe i’m very choosy when it comes to rods, but i’ll only buy a rod after handling/fiddling with it.

i’ve seen the black rose before. looks pretty decent, but have yet to try it…

WAR: it’s not about who’s RIGHT, it’s about who’s LEFT

and oh, speaking of breaking under pressure…

i’ve broken many rods before in tackleshops (can’t name the shop! :D) during handling, just flexing the rod with the help of tackleshop owner providing pressure at the rod tip!

you’ll be surprised that some ‘branded’ rods too have very bad/known inconsistencies. some breaking at guide foots, some at rod tips…sorry but i can’t name them here. [:D]

almost/most higher spec rods come in a rod cloth and box… and they are there for a good reason. transporting rods around from supplier to retailer may sometimes damage the rods if they are not protected or handled well.

Hi guys,

Ya, well i just bought the Black Rose, slim version 5’6" & just caught my first fish with it, a 1.5kg Pacu. My verdict - either the Pacu was exceptionally strong…or the rod was too light. It was a nice fight, but the I didnt really feel that I was in full ‘control’ of the situation especially during the first 15 seconds of the fight. Yes, my beginners fish fighting skills may have had something to do with it [:I], but I have taken 3kg Pacu’s & even a 5kg Patin before on my Abu Conolon and the control factor was much better. I like the lightness of the rod, I cast well with it, but doesn’t seem to have enough backbone for a strong fish.

Tis is a ultralite rod. tats y u feel the fish fighting u stronger. Normally tis is wat most angler would prefer.</font id=“purple”>

Love it especially when it bend double over while battling with titans[8D]</font id=“purple”>

Hi, this Lemax is the same class line weight as all my other rods, its not ultralight, its in the 6 - 12 lb line class, more of a medium action, but very slim & light. But you are right, its damn thrilling & I’m gonna use it again this weekend to see what else it can haul up [:D]. I’ll post in this forum if it breaks, hopefully not.

don’t buy this rod cause i own one n the front part of this rod break two times …
really sad…

Wah ! … you guys doing destruction test or what ? [:D]

Actually, I have had an expensive Rm750 rod break on me before - and that is when I sadly but surely learned that " Lifetime Guarantee " actually meant that the " Relationship " was the thing guaranteed - NOT THE ROD. All this Marketing talk is confusing to say the least.

yes, the rod does feel kinda fragile. I wonder why it was so expensive, costs more than 100 bucks. Maybe its ideal only for fishes 1kg & below, not suitable for heavy fighters. shouldn’t have bought it [:(]

Chris - I would not feel bad about buying a light rod - as your skills improve, you will find that you will want to go lighter.

Many of the recommendations from well meaning shops are actually good enough for you to pull an angry haruan up a tree. They have to do it this way because they are not in control of what abuse the rod will have to go through - and play safe, rather than to get an irritated customer later on.

Don’t worry about your purchase - just use it for what it was designed for.[:)]

well, just an update. After a few sessions of using this rod exclusively (to see if it breaks [:D]) I can say that I probably misjudged the rod to quickly. Caught a few more 1-1.5kg Pacu’s on it (never managed to try it on a large Patin) using 20Lb line, it seems to hold up quite well. It still feels very light & fragile compared to other rods, but it does add to the excitement. I will try again with 15Ib line see if there’s a difference.

Believe me.[8D] I have landed 5kg+ fishes on ultralite rods which are more fragile. If you handle the rod properly and have proper care for it, then it should be able to last for a long long time, maybe even a lifetime.[:I] Where are you located? If in KL then we can meet up to compare some rods as I shall be in town from tomorrow till thurs.

You are darn rite about the POOR recommendations from some of the tackle shop owners so that they can save their butts[V]. I once, overheard 1 shop owner advising a newbie on his very first setup. I was totally taken aback[:0]. He recommended a setup that can easily handle a 20kg GT when the poor fella just wanna a set to join his buddies at a pay pond[:(]. I really feel like kick the shop fella in his balls[:(!].

" … its in the 6 - 12 lb line class,… " - this means that the line should be in the 8 lb class - maximum 10 lb. Not 20 lb, or even 15 lb. [:)]

talking bout using lighter gear as you’re more experienced…

i know one uncle who always go fishing at fish valley i think, or somewhere else in semenyih la. anyway, he’s either a fly fishing guy, or an ultralight guy only.
according to him, he once battled a 12kg patin with 2lb line! play for 1hr 45mins. man, when he told me i din believe, but from what i hear, he’s really hardcore la.
he also said when he goes fly fishing at CWS always masuk at least waist-deep in the water one. not scared of biawak or snake.
he been making own rods for at least 40-50 years dy la, or imports. very experienced la. fishing for more than half a century dy. haha.

about the black rose… i heard it’s probably the best freshwater rod by lemax. perhaps dun look at it so thin, and think it’ll be brittle. maybe go fight 4-5kg fish with it la. take it to tow foo, bro. let the pacus have a run at it. sure your hands shaking after 10 mins with a 5-6kg pacu n 10lb line with your black rose.
1-2kg pacus are small fellars for a 15lb line. i played with some 1kg - 1.5kg pacus with 6lb line and 500size reel before. not that long to tire them out, n i’m still a beginner, bro.
the small ones actually dun fight that strong la. when they get a few kgs bigger, then they really up their strength by many times.

Also forgot … set your drag to 1/3 the lb. specification of your line ( this protects your rod ) - use your finger on the spool to increase drag in an emergency ( e.g. blighter going under the sankar )

" … sure your hands shaking after 10 mins with a 5-6kg pacu n 10lb line with your black rose. " - nyamaoan - when this happens, my hands are not the only things shaking ! [:D]

Hi,

I am normally either at Kelana Laguna, Damansara Perdana & sometimes Taman Desa. Most weekends at Laguna. Ya, beginning to like the Black Rose, and i should take it to Tow Foo. Can’t wait…Black Rose against monsters of Tow Foo. Hope it won’t be a 1st round knockout.
