Just starting a topic on the most popular payponds in Klang Valley, I presume.
Feel free to post any tips, secrets, etc
There are four ponds at a row there, the first pond has more fish but catch is usually small, also it is cheaper..RM50 for 6hours, the second pond is not operating at the moment..shut down or what don’t know. The third pond is the most famous one, catch is usually bigger, but don’t expect too much..it is still very much depends on your luck, or if the owner really did release fish into the pond. The forth pond opens only on Tues/Thurs/Sat/Sun only..tough pond as people suspect it is very rare that the owner release fish into this pond, but I did see before a guy hit 8 ang-chors in 3 hours.
General speaking, there is not much skill you need to fish in such salt-water pond, a 30lbs line, a 6" rod and standard reel, you get your bait at the pond at RM1, .70cents outside the pond. You sit there and the rest is really luck.
Salt-water pond is the best place to get a feel on salt-water fishing, after this, you will be really for some real work at open sea. However, rating at RM10 per hour (unless you take the night package) and quite far from K.L, make sure you have enough $ for the rest.
Good luck!
is this place crowded, esp during sunday?

Not so bad in terms of crowd. Around Klang there is another two ponds that I have heard of - HIPRO and Angsa (Near Star Cruise terminal).
Would appreciate if anyone can draft a map on these two ponds and write us some experiences with it.
Yup,
Pond No3 is very crowded especially on weekends.
Saw pp caught ‘kerapu naga’ near the water wheel near the counter.
Usually the best time for the fish to bite is around 3-7 pm.
But in fishing, anything can happen …
Ya..but sitting there is very warm in the afternoon, somemore other than Kelapu, it is not common to get other fish there.
Any idea how to reach HIPRO and Angsa? Kind of bore on Sea Lion, as it is not productive. Heard HIPRO has improved a lot…anyone?
Where are you coming from, kerapu? if you are from kl or shah alam, kesas highway is the best route to HiPro

Mind telling the way from KESAS?
kelapu..just go through the kesas until u pay RM1.50 at the westport tollhouse..follow the pulau indah direction..then u will lalu a so call highway full of lorry and contenna..follow that road until u see a starcruise signboard..turn right and enter the route to the starcruise jetty..before reach the starcruise gate..there is a T junction..turn right..u will see the pond in front of you..angse pond
mancing is the way of life..
i think sea lion is much more better la than the angse pond..cause the angse pond is 12 acre big..and the lubuk is at the pintu air (belakang skali)..if ur bait running out..then it will be trouble for u to go to the main entrance back to buy the udang..
mancing is the way of life..
Are you using Vanish/invisible lines in saltwater payponds ??
Does that increase the catch rate?
ANother thing, can anyone tell how to go to HiPro pond from Kesas ?
sea lion is not much better, because countless fishes snagged and snap ur line just under your seat.
there is a strategy I would suggest first timer to sea lion - do not expect too much, because you may come in the wrong time (owner did not put fishes in, weather too hot, no fresh sea water supply etc.) but if you do get a hit, there are two strategy for you.
- soft-soft strategy, if you dont strike hard, normally the fishes wont speed up and fight back hard. the chance to land it is better, but can only do when there are less people
- hard-hard strategy, if you have to strike hard, be prepared for a hard fight. then prepare stiff rod and thick line. no joking, I have seen a guy use 80 lb rod with 80 lb braided line, 120 lb mono leader, when he got a hit, i saw a fish heading to the snag but this fella pull and a 3 kg snapper “fly” up to him.

Miloz, thanks man! I also heard that Angsa is a natural pond compare to sea lion digged pond. To “successfully” fish at Angsa, we need to know exact time BEFORE the water goes high. Can you also tell the way to HIPRO?
one thing to watch out for in places like hipro and sea lion is the vulture section. the ‘sangkar flers’. There are some unwritten ‘laws’ that need to be followed in order to ‘fish’ there. A sad fact because these ‘seasoned’ anglers think its their birthright to own the sangkar area or the ‘condo’ area in hipro. saltwater payponds are great places to observe how low humans can get in order to get fish. this can range from stealing belanaks up to arguments when strangers taking an ‘experienced’ angler sangkar spot. so rohu expert(got 1 rohu, horrible experience in sijangkang last friday) and barra, it’d be nice to have a fair fight with fish out in the open, instead of being a sangkar-phile. unfortunately, the downside of the whole argument is, fishes seek refuge under such objects. oh, the agony of it all…leave it to someone else to tell about ‘ikan boontek’ :P. this is one ugly looking fish if it dies…
another question to pose to salties or freshies,
would you help to net some stranger’s catch or just leave him/her be?
i would help of course. what goes around comes around. Was at the aman puri paymond the other day, got a 1.5 kg siakap on a 8lb line, would never have gotten it up had not a nice malay chap helped me.

yes, I will for sure. but will get the permittion from the guy who is fighting the fish first, because you know…not everybody will appreciate your help. and worst case if he lose the fish he might blame you to carry the net and scare off his fish…it happened.

to help, one must really know how to help. I have seen countless people chasing the fish with the net, hook gets tangled with the net and it’s sayonara. and instead of scooping up the fish, they scoop down. I believe the correct way should be for the angler fighting the fish to guide the fish into the net, and the assistant to scoop up once the fish is guided into the net. just my 2 cents
quote:That is why I will ask permittion before I can give an helping hands. [:)]. I lost some angchoh in sea lion because some kids trying to help but scared the fish away. and exactly like you said. the ending is heart broken.

I totally agree with tortoise power on knowing how to help. But its quite subjective really, there was once a guy who caught this angchoh but unfortunately, the fish got the better of him and escaped. he stared at me like it was my fault to help him net it!
a note for mr.tan jin sheng, young chaps with heart of gold like you are hard to come by. keep on being the best that you already are. MFN need more people like you. Cheers, mate! (root beer first, liquor later!)
