Thinnest lines

Another reason why we were slow in converting is another cost in addition to the lines - the rods. My old rods did not have guides that could handle those early braided lines - so going over to braids also meant new rods ![:(]

For those with some cash to spare - I have been trying out a braid called " Samuline " - it is supposed to be made in Japan by a company called Sasame Hooks Limited - and it costs Rm 60 for 125 meters. So far, the " Fluorescent Yellow " is happily getting white - but it is very soft and smooth - does not make any sound as it rushes through the guides. Ties well and feels good … but only time will tell.

Mike’s right [:)]

Rods with guides that can’t take braid will see the guide rings cut into … say bye bye to your guides [:(]

most rods now carry the Fuji/SIC guide label, they’re OK.
as F3T3 has mentioned, alconite guides are tops, but then again, they COST [:p]

nyamaoan,
read up, check out and where possible, fish with kakis using braid - then you can try it out (ask to try lor [^])

some swear AT spiderwire
some swear BY it [:p]
muh 20lb camo is the same diameter as 6lb mono
i shall in all likelihood swear at myself if anything happens. ain’t the fault of the line, more my fault for not checking or not tying properly.

some swear by trilene, sufix, powerpro (some complain noisy), no hard and fast rule. find out which works best for YOU and stick to it.

read the defier line by shimano is good but haven’t tried it yet.

Hand down, the thinnest braid line pound to line ratio is Pioneer Palladin Power.
I have been using in for a few years in Sea and fresh water fishing.
I love this line, 30lbs at 0.23mm, Thats 10lbs more compared to spiderwire ultracast (20lb@0.24mm).
It casts like a bullet. Uncomparable lb for lb to line ratio.

Thanks FT bro,

Tat solve most mystery hahaha… so the cost is higher from upper to lower ring featured above?

After reading all your posts, i think i am definitely going for braided now. I love to use small reels, thinking now of getting myself a top quality 1000 series spinner & load it with 0.20 - 0.24 20/30Ib line. I should be able to get at least 150 yards on it i think. Enough to fight the monsters of Tow Foo?

something like that lar. heheheh…

however, the new K-series guides are titanium bodied alconites as this combination is the lightest yet durable for braids. u should check them out.

btw, y not make a new topic if u want more info from others as well…

let’s get back to lines now…

In my humble opinion, both mono n braided lines have their own pros n cons.
As for beginners, mono would be better as the cost is lower. If a chau bee hoon situation arises, its also more easy to handle.
As we get along, with more experience, we can then experiment with braided lines.
Lets face facts. We cannot have the best of all worlds. Usually, the thinner the lines, the easier for it to snap when faced with snaggy situation, but it also means we can cast further too.
Conclusion - there is no 1 line thats good for all situation. Perhaps we should consider different diameters for different situations.

Wong Sifu is correct [:D]

Use that which fits best.
Ain’t no one fits all.
Find out which works best for YOU and stick to it.
If it’s a combination, so be it!

Personally I prefer mono. Braided lines so far haven’t been good for me. For reference/example: Once I spooled my BG10 with 15lb Sufix braid and a waste it was. The line tangled by itself while casting. Not sure how it happened. Also I dont like the friction of the braided line to the guides.

Mono has been good for me… but only certain brands… maxima perfexion/chameleon, yo-zuri hybrid & daiwa tournament-duo. It’s easier to handle, softer and smoother than braids… playing a 5-6kg pacu with 8lbs mono is super-fun…

Braided line need to be spooled in TIGHTLY. The most probable reason for the entanglement is cos you spool the braided line in too loose. Further to this, if your rod guides are non sic or something similar then its not suited for braided line as it will eat into the guides rendering them useless/broken.

" The line tangled by itself while casting. Not sure how it happened. "

gp - I think that people refer to this as " wind knots " - and like wkl2020 says - will happen when your line is too loose on the spool. One wrap does not sit properly, and gets pulled out when you cast.

As for me, I try not to forget to use my fingers to tension the line when I am retrieving every 4 - 5 casts. Just enough tension to allow the line to spool properly. Too much tension, and your line will dig in ( same happens when you play a big fish ) and you then get the opposite.

Make a big cast to hit the other side of the pond, and TWAAAACK ! … everybody is running for shelter across the pond ! [:D]

You wait - there were actually a few pay ponds where there was that kind of entertainment on the side - so what we practice when fighting with a fish, can help us do a better job on the SYT who is whispering sweet nothings in your ear.

Take it from me - easier to get untangled from a wind knot than one of those [:D][:D][:D]

Mike,

Wait a min. there…the previous posting is not from me. Someone had stolen my post here[xx(].
