Just to widen my knowledge on fly fishing in Malaysia… I saw several species inside the forum. Perhaps it is possible to line up a nice list on what kind of fish takes the fly well in your fresh waters. Perhaps it is possible to include them with picture and with, Malay, English and the latin name of the species as well. I am sure you have species that really go well on dry flies and others perhaps only possible to catch on nymphs or streamer only?
I would love to know this including the area’s where those fish are native. That will prevent me for a lot frustrations next time I visit your wonderful country.
these 3 are predators and can be caught on popper and streamers. the poppers i normally use are your common foam head bass bug. i don’t think they are too partial to color but i tend to use a popper with a yellow or white belly so that it suggests a frog. 1/0 to 3/0 hooks they are not shy. good idea to use weedless hooks if fishing heavy cover. for streamers, i tend to stick with a clouser with toman fry colors… ie., orange/red, yellow, and black. maybe Dron can post some of his toman fry patterns?
the Sebarau and Toman are very good fighting fish. they can be found in jungle streams as well but most people tend to catch them in lakes like Kenyir, Temenggor, Bersia, Ayer Ganda, Ayer Kunnning, and so on on the peninsular.
