What's wrong with Ah Ho Bagan Datok GT Chaser ??

Roy, this is the summary of your 1st posting about Ah Ho:-

  1. He has continous trips to Jarak, and most likely he is too tired to go out everyday.
  2. He will take all the opportunity to sleep during fishing trip.
  3. he leaves us as the victims i.e paying for boat n park by the island and sleep and slep and sleep.
  4. All I can say, Ah Ho is terribly lazy, and not worth hiring his boat anymore for fishing.
  5. To my dear fishing friends, let’s boycott his boat for a while, and make him realise about his bad service.
  6. Hopefully, one day he will change, and then we can go again fishing in P. Jarak.

You are free to voice your opinion. What I want to highlight is, Ah Ho is emphasize more on jigging/popping anglers instead of bottom fishing.

Btw, can you give me the tekong name and their contact numbers that do not sleep, keep changing spot whole night through when he bring anglers out fishing?

cheers!

Hellooo Ktang,
You are missing the point here. Plse make an argument or discussion in a professional way or at least in an educated manner. Why should we be defending someone who is giving the customers bad services, and after all it is not for free. We want Ah Ho to realise and improve for the benefits of other anglers including myself. Even the recent general election, the people are willing to change as to give signal to the Government to wake-up and change for the better. Hope you can see my point.

Back to yr above comments:
I know very well that Ah Ho is emphasis on jigging and popping. Let me tell you that I am not a bottom fishing type of anglers, and that’s why I go with Ah Ho. I’ve fishing to oversea many times purely for jigging and popping. I go fishing not to look for fish to eat or to bring it back home. I usually buy the fish at the market. I want a sport, and that’s why I go with Ah Ho.

Secondly, mana ada tekong/orang tak tidor ? Even though AYAM pun tidor malam. Plse ask a smart question. I am not asking for Ah Ho to stay awake 24 hrs a day, and on the move every single hrs looking for teh fishing spots. We are all human, and have an understanding. Ah Ho is not a Robot or Iron Man. Even myslef, I’ll take a break, and catch up with my sleep during any fishing trip. What if the skipper in a day sleep and park the boat at the same spot 2/3 of the day ? What would you do ? Plse think, and we dont have to be a stereotype of person. Plse think outside the box.

Whatever is good, it is good and we tell others about the good things. If it is bad, we say it bad for the improvements.

Cheers and happy fishing.

Roy, I understand your situation, as do most of us actually who has posted on this topic. If you look back, at least 4 ppl have unpleasant stories on trips with him. I don’t see anything wrong with discussion this matter, we’re not destroying his business, nor can we can we make him wealthy just by this community alone. Guys who are too defensive to see, please understand, if this small community here at this forums already has quite alot of dissatisfaction for him, think about the others out there who are not part of this forums. This is not baseless criticsm of Ah Ho, more like constructive ones. My case with Ah Ho, was not so much in part of his laziness, but more towards his nonsensical attitude to my foreign friends.

Late last year, some of my colleague’s from abroad and I went fishing aboard the GT Chaser. First of all we were overcharged and knew it, but my friends knowing they were foreigners, already expected to pay a little more. And there were only 4 of us on the entire boat, so I’d guess you guys will know how hefty the sum is. Fishing was decent, as he really has the knack to find productive fishing ground. Again no complains on that. My friends were from Australia, and didn’t put expectations on huge trevallies like those back in their home waters. They didn’t complain one bit about the fishing here. Everything was fine and dandy until night came.

All day we had been jigging, no popping no bottom action. We chose jigging as we prefer a variety of catch rather the popping which limited us to topwater feeders. On the first day, all we had landed numerous GT’s, some big some small, and a few barracudas, but that was it. No mackerel, no snapper, and a lone grouper if i remember correctly. My friends and I, we didn’t have a single ice box on board, the intentions were never to bring fish home. But come night, my friend wanted to catch his first golden snapper for dinner. U get red emperors, red snappers but no goldie ang chos in australia according to my friends. I told Ah Ho, could we move to a spot where the chances of getting this fish are better? I got an instant NO. HE WAS TIRED SO HE SAID. All day he has been snoozing. And he’s tired? Nvm. He was mumbling away bout “paying little ask alot”. That really ticked me off. Then the deckie came along and told us, the spot is merely a few hundred metres away, he’ll try to persuade Ah Ho. U can guess the outcome: NO.

I mean what the F? Few hundred metres, and he’s too tired to move? I don’t know what was up with Ah Ho, but he certainly in a way I felt, tainted malaysian charters in the eye of foreigners. Lunch of 2nd day, my buddy Stevie despite the earlier disappointment, invited Ah Ho to eat together be merry and share his boating stories and opinions. Ah Ho simply snapped NO, I WANT TO SLEEP. I could guarantee that he slept at least 15 hours in the twenty over odd hours we were there. Feeling there was no need for any more embaressment, we cut the trip a day short.Keep that money for all I care. But to embaress me in this method in front of foreign friends,no way. Good services? You decide.

Belukang,
Thanks n I totally agree with u 200 percent. The purpose of this forum is for others to be aware of the situation n not to be caught off-guard if taking GT Chaser fishing to P.Jarak.I want Ah Ho to improve for the sake of all my fellow anglers.

I beg to differ… this attitude is the very reason why some people get good service and some don’t… Some customers just don’t know better. Boatmen are human too, and you get what you give</font id=“green”>. Before we criticize others, why not take a good look at ourselves first.

just because the customer are fussy, the boat operator can do whatever he think they deserves?

IMHO customer are meant to be fussy, they want this, they want that!
but we’re talking about fishing charter, its a service business

I’ve been following this thread and thought of penning my opinion. I’ve been on board Ah Ho’s boat last year and although it was my maiden trip I find that he was professional in his ways. Yes he does have his quirks but that is just his character. Maintaining a clean boat and keeping the deck free of fish slime once any fish is landed is a must for safety reason. That’s why those on board will see pails and scrub brushes around his boat.
I commend his skills in navigating to the fishing holes and being on top of things as having 8 anglers all with hookups at the same time is no easy feat with him giving assistance in helping to land the fish & releasing them.
I felt that he puts in the effort in ensuring anglers achieve their purpose.
Those who have been to Jarak should put themselves in his shoes. If you think that piloting a boat for hours at a stretch is an easy task think again. The concentration and mental alertness is crucial for the safety of everyone on board. Eventhough all we see is the vast expanse of the sea/ocean but there are debris floating and some may be just below the water surface. I’ve seen huge logs (kayu balak) out in the sea and I dread to think if a boat was to hit it.
All in all, think about the mental and physical fatigue that a boatman experience. Yes we pay to fish on board his boat but he is afterall a human too. The tagline that the customer is always right is correct unless the demands are beyond what can be served based on the capabilities and resource of one man.

I am going with Tekong Ah Teng (Dolphin 4) next month. This is my first time with him. Anyone fished on that boat b4?

I used to fish with Dolphin 3 Tekong Ah Chai last time.

Feedback is much appreciated.

Dear Bros,

After my last trip with Captain Ho - GT Chaser, he called me to ask for a small favour. He wanted to reply to all the bros who feel unhappy about his service and so I said ok. On Monday, he sent me some letters signed by Ah Ho himself and asked for the replies below. Hope this would help to clear some confusion and unhappiness.

[:D][:D]

To Brother roy64 @mr. Champion @RFREE

I know who you are, because you talk n d way you write are exactly the same style. Your trip with me was 29/2, 1/3, 2/3, total 9 anglers onboard. 5 are new beginners. Here comes the journey of your trip, before that, this is the tide table for Bagan Dato’, Perak.

29/2 1/3 2/3
Time Meter Diff Time Meter Diff Time Meter Diff
0320 0.8 0357 1.0 1.1 0637 1.2 0.7
0927 2.0 1.2 1038 1.8 0.8 1314 1.8 0.6
1520 1.0 1.0 1613 1.2 0.6 1946 1.3 0.5
2132 2.1 1.1 2253 1.9 0.7

Day 1 – 29/2 – Leave jetty at 10am to Hutan Melintang, S Mount, arrive at 2pm but unfortunately NW wind pick up with wave almost 2m high, make situation hard to do drift jigging, wait for an hour plus still no sign of slow down, no choice have to go P. Jarak slowly, on the way hopefully wind slow down so can jig other spot. Sadly mothernature not corporate, reach P. Jarak sunset, no choice have to park next to Island to look for shelter and that night the winds kept on blowing till next morning.

Day 2 – 1/3 – Start jigging after breakfast although sea still quite rough with ±1.5m wave, so the boat was rocking like rock n roll. When drift jigging no good result due to dead current, try other few sport but still the same, stop at around noon to cook for lunch. After lunch try to park at pinnacle but failed to do that because wind condition not allowed. Go to shipwreck later to try luck there but jigging still no result with still water. Bottom jigging also nothing with only market kembong and sotong we have as bait. This trip suppose to collect live mantis prawns at Tg. Karang, but SOMEONE?? Don’t want to wait when they arrive at supplier’s house too early in the morning. With no good bait you know the result. Around mid night, I woke up to toilet, Mr roy64 was cooking maggie mee for supper. I found out 10 packs of maggiee mee I purposely kept inside storage box for morning left only 6 packs so I said to him #61514; Alamak besok pagi, makan roti sajalah, pasal ini saje mee yg tinggal. Roti gardenia masih banyak!! Then we hit by storm, so up anchor and slowly to P. Sembilan, reach there about 4 AM!!

Day 3 – 2/3 – Breakfast (roti goreng telor / French toast) 2 cartoons, start jigging till 11am but nothing at all with totally dead water. Only 0.6m btw high n low tide. Go back to P. Jarak arrive at 12.40pm, normally 10am – 11am will cook Maggie mee with mantis prawn but only 6 pack how to serve 9 person? So I decided to go back 1 hour earlier so that they can have lunch at Bagan Dato’. This all my mistake forget to top up Maggie mee stock and if Mr roy64 ask me first before he cook d Maggie mee I will suggest him take the gardenia bread with curry chicken because I bought extra bread. And this make you angry, and you say I reduce food a lot right?

Here is my food menu for 3 days onboard GT Chaser:-
DAY 1 – 1pm Curry Ikan Mabong / Ikan Goreng (± 2kg)
3pm Pisang goreng
7pm Vegetable / Asam pedas crab (4kg)
DAY 2 - 8am Roti gardenia, hot dog 40pcs, fried egg (1 each), cucumber and tomato
1pm Chicken Soup / Ikan Goreng
3pm Pisang goreng
7pm Vegetable / Curry chicken
DAY 3 - 8am French toast
10am Maggie mee / mantis prawn
Hot drink – coffee 3-in-1 n tea bag, DIY with hot water in jar
(Note: Mid night supper excluded, pls buy your own)

So this trip cover total mileage of sailing 115NM, from jetty to HMSM, then P. Jarak, P. Sembilan back to jetty are 99NM. 115NM – 99NM = 16NM, so this 16NM is the distance of drift jigging and change spot. Let’s say only 5NM is the total distance of drift jigging cover area, with drifting speed less than 1NM due to dead current, how many times need to cover this distance and how many time left I can park the boat next to Island and sleep all time except for the 1st night? Don’t forget when there is strong wind and big wave during night time, I have to stay alert for watch out although we are seeking shelter behind island as there are other big trawling boat park there also. Sometimes park too close will be hit by them and the boat will go too near to rocks and island area too. I have no chance to sleep at all as this continue till morning. If this happen, normally I will request to start a bit late around 9am so I can rest for 2 hours. So? Do you think all I care is park the boat by island and sleep even during day time?

As boat captain, I have to take care the safety of all on board my boat. It is my responsibility. When there is 2 meter white cap out there, how to drift jig on this kind of condition? Maybe you can because you are the champion angler and weekend boat skipper, but how about the others on board? Specially new beginners, while they can’t walk, stand or anything except hide inside cabin, vomit, knock out, sleep 2 day 2 night no eating anything? How if someone fell overboard? I am the one to have to answer for all incidents happen on boat. So I request please think for others, you are super but not everyone same like you. I have to make decision according to situation, if this make you unhappy and not what you expected, I felt sorry about this. So after long story, I stop here. I want to apologize and say sorry again to those unhappy because of my service. Happy fishing!

Apa kit buat dan cakap, Tuhan melihat diatas!!

Ah Ho – GT Chaser 23/3

To Brother Ktang,

Thank you for your reply. You’re onboard my boat last weekend of January 2008 am I right? I do say that to you but following words I said was I will repark the boat if I can wake up at mid night. For your trip I woke up at 5am to move the boat to deep water because low tide that morning.

We left jetty 10 am to Hutan Melintang, Sea Mount drift jigging then move another spot continue jigging till we reach P. Jarak around 9pm. After anchoring the boat, finally I have time to take my dinner and bath around 10am then only I can take a rest after 17 hours of work. At the place I park which you mentioned not productive spot happen to be 1 favourite spot at P. Jarak. I didn’t lie many years we have been hauling up variety of fish like ang choh, grouper, kaci, MJ, long chiam, big eye GT, cobia, ebek, sagai, barracuda, rainbow runner, talang, potato cod, shark, sail fish, grunter and more. No matter how strong the current because only 40+ meter deep and not far from pinnacle of Jarak sea mount but under 1 condition, live bait.
However, on your trip, a day before, 1 of your team member called me say they will not collect live mantis prawn from Tg. Karang because is a pure jigging / popping trip and no live bait is needed. So I only bought some market kembong and sotong to standby. With this kind of bait, what fish can we expect?

Back to subject, If I did not rest or sleep after day long work, how I going to continue tomorrow? Maybe I do answer you at that time I am tired and mad so I apologize and say sorry that made you unhappy that trip. Thank you so much and happy fishing.
