What's wrong with Ah Ho Bagan Datok GT Chaser ??

To Brother IJAM,

Reply to saudara IJAM case, yg saya nak tau wang deposit RM1500 saudara bayar kat siape dan dgn cara apa? Masuk bank account saya?

Macam mana saudara dapat balik bile last minute trip dibatalkan sbb boat rosak? Lagi pun semenjak Jun 2007 bot baru saya beroperasi, saya tidak lagi buat trip 2hari 1malam, semuanya 3 hari 2malam yg sewanya RM3800 utk 10 orang termasuk umpan, makanan 4 kali sehari, ais batu and air mineral. Trip anda 12, 13 Jan bot mane yg saudara book? Nombor telipon saya 019-5165885, adakah nombor ini yang saudara hubungi? Sile berikan feedback hal apa yg sebenarnya berlaku?

Fitnah itu dosa, Tuhan tau segala-galanya.

Ah Ho – GT Chaser 23/3

To Brother Belukang,

You said late last year, onboard my GT Chaser with only 4 of you and I overcharge you no respect to your Australian friend, sleep at least 15 hours in 20 over odd hours, cut the trip a day short and keep the money for all you care?

When I check my sailing log book, my new GT Chaser start operated at 1 june 2007, until today 23 March 2008, i never had a trip only carrying 4 anglers on board. Most at 6, 8 or 10 person. Only 3 trips carry 5 person and the latest 2 person (hehehe must be me) #61514;

And all my trip never cut short a day, all are 3 D 2 N except second trip 15 – 17 June 2007 when during 2nd night I have fever, vomit and diarhhea more than 10 times. So I request to go back early, reach jetty at 6am morning. That trip Ah Meng, tackle shop man from Jalan Ipoh board and can be witness. I have note down all my trips date and time (leave and arrive jetty), how many anglers on board, trip mileage, engine running hours, fuel and water capacity and consumption, so I can trace back in case I need information.
Also every trip I will request all my customer write down their name and IC into a form that will submit to Jabatan Laut next to jetty Bagan Dato’ and I have a copy on bring along to sea.

Please give me the exact date you onboard my boat. My boat registration number is ATA00911P, my contact number is 019-5165885 are you sure this is the contact number? How much did you pay for the trip? Everyone knows my rental is RM3,800 local or foreign is the same. So what is going on? Are you sure you on-board my GT Chaser? I never carry any Australian on board my new GT Chaser yet, since starting operating on 1 June 2007. Please feel free to call me if you don’t want to answer here. I did like to know what is actually going on. Thank you sir.

Ah Ho – GT Chaser 23/3

To Brother Reel Screamers,

I did not know what happening because you didn’t mention. I felt sorry if you really have a bad experience onboard my GT Chaser. I apologize.

Ah Ho – GT Chaser 23/3

Lastly I want to say is anglers are smart. If I fool them, cheat them, will they come back to me? Some are my regular customer from my ex-36 footer wooden boat 10 years ago with no toilet and kitchen tiny cabin for 3 only slow and crawling speed of 6 knows till today. So truth is truth, people eyes will look at it.

Happy fishing all the time, and thanks to all who have supported me since I be a tekong.

Well said Ah Ho, and more GT chasing to come.[:D]

Well said Ah Ho, and more GT chasing to come.[:D]

Captain Hoo, you really deserve the respect of all anglers. You are a true professional fisherman charter and one hell of a responsible skipper ;). See you coming Sept !!

Cheers!

I’ll use New Happy Star from Lumut on June’08 & Seagull on August’08…I’ll try update this boat service later since almost 6 month I never used this boat service…All my kaki’s are bottom anglers, that’s why we prefer take Lumut area fishing boat.

I heard pak Intan passed away several years ago…I’m not so sure b’coz I lost contact with Mr. Lu..I’m sorry If I’m wrong…only heard from my friends…but pak Intan son’s take over his place…

Hi roy64,

Sometimes in fishing, to yield the best result one have to understand the meaning of Team Work. Understanding the skipper/boatman worries is part of a successful fishing trip. To end a fishing trip/outing with quarrels and frustrations would be the worst thing to happen. After all it’s only fishing, a hobby or sport that we anglers enjoy.

As this is your first posting in MFN and yr choice of posting this thread here in the Fishing Report, i sincerely hope your are not flamming Ah Ho of GT Chaser in MFN. I can see you manage to spike up a few forumer here to believe your claim against Ah Ho, i hope you could clear the air for us as Ah Ho of GT Chaser had clarified himself toward this matter.

Cheers and Happy Fishing

Recently, I went fishing with Ah Ho of GT Chaser at Bagan Datok on his new boat. The last I went fishing with him was over a year ago, and I stopped because of his bad service in late 2006. For your background, I used to be Ah Ho's regular customer as he knows his fishing spots very very well, and really hardworking moving from one spot to another. I'm not so much of looking fish for eating, but more for sport fishing. I dont mind of not catching fish at all in a trip provided the boatman has put all his best effort to move from one lubuk to another. I only do jigging and popping. Previously, I would rated Ah Ho as among the top boatman for fishing with his cleanest wooden boat I've ever been to.

BUT, BUT NOT ANYMORE !!! He never change. My most recent trip with Ah Ho on his new GT Chaser to Pulau Jarak made me sweared to myself not to go again with him unless he improves. He is simply lazy to move to one fishing spot to another (if no fish), and all he cares is to park the boat by the island and sleep. If we ask him to go out, with all kind of excuses such as wind, current, and all kind of nonsense excuses. He try his best not to move around like those old days, and could probably wants to save diesel. Hey, we are not paying RM450 per person to sleep on the boat. Might as well I spend the money staying for 3D/2N at the 5 stars hotel in KL. Even the foods on boat have been reduce a lot. Maybe, he thought he is the only boat operators in the area with no competition. He has continous trips to Jarak, and most likely he is too tired to go out everyday. so, he will take all the opportunity to sleep during fishing trip. Thus, he leaves us as the victims i.e paying for boat n park by the island and sleep and slep and sleep. All I can say, Ah Ho is terribly lazy, and not worth hiring his boat anymore for fishing. I heard of many groups complaining about the same thing, and frustrated when going out fishing with Ah Ho. To my dear fishing friends, let’s boycott his boat for a while, and make him realise about his bad service. Hopefully, one day he will change, and then we can go again fishing in P. Jarak.

Does any other angler had a bad experience with Ah Ho ? Plse share with our fishing kaki so as not to get cheated by irresposible boat operator.

I know who you are, because you talk n d way you write are exactly the same style. Your trip with me was 29/2, 1/3, 2/3, total 9 anglers onboard. 5 are new beginners. Here comes the journey of your trip, before that, this is the tide table for Bagan Dato’, Perak.

29/2 1/3 2/3
Time Meter Diff Time Meter Diff Time Meter Diff
0320 0.8 0357 1.0 1.1 0637 1.2 0.7
0927 2.0 1.2 1038 1.8 0.8 1314 1.8 0.6
1520 1.0 1.0 1613 1.2 0.6 1946 1.3 0.5
2132 2.1 1.1 2253 1.9 0.7

Day 1 – 29/2 – Leave jetty at 10am to Hutan Melintang, S Mount, arrive at 2pm but unfortunately NW wind pick up with wave almost 2m high, make situation hard to do drift jigging, wait for an hour plus still no sign of slow down, no choice have to go P. Jarak slowly, on the way hopefully wind slow down so can jig other spot. Sadly mothernature not corporate, reach P. Jarak sunset, no choice have to park next to Island to look for shelter and that night the winds kept on blowing till next morning.

Day 2 – 1/3 – Start jigging after breakfast although sea still quite rough with ±1.5m wave, so the boat was rocking like rock n roll. When drift jigging no good result due to dead current, try other few sport but still the same, stop at around noon to cook for lunch. After lunch try to park at pinnacle but failed to do that because wind condition not allowed. Go to shipwreck later to try luck there but jigging still no result with still water. Bottom jigging also nothing with only market kembong and sotong we have as bait. This trip suppose to collect live mantis prawns at Tg. Karang, but SOMEONE?? Don’t want to wait when they arrive at supplier’s house too early in the morning. With no good bait you know the result. Around mid night, I woke up to toilet, Mr roy64 was cooking maggie mee for supper. I found out 10 packs of maggiee mee I purposely kept inside storage box for morning left only 6 packs so I said to him #61514; Alamak besok pagi, makan roti sajalah, pasal ini saje mee yg tinggal. Roti gardenia masih banyak!! Then we hit by storm, so up anchor and slowly to P. Sembilan, reach there about 4 AM!!

Day 3 – 2/3 – Breakfast (roti goreng telor / French toast) 2 cartoons, start jigging till 11am but nothing at all with totally dead water. Only 0.6m btw high n low tide. Go back to P. Jarak arrive at 12.40pm, normally 10am – 11am will cook Maggie mee with mantis prawn but only 6 pack how to serve 9 person? So I decided to go back 1 hour earlier so that they can have lunch at Bagan Dato’. This all my mistake forget to top up Maggie mee stock and if Mr roy64 ask me first before he cook d Maggie mee I will suggest him take the gardenia bread with curry chicken because I bought extra bread. And this make you angry, and you say I reduce food a lot right?

Here is my food menu for 3 days onboard GT Chaser:-
DAY 1 – 1pm Curry Ikan Mabong / Ikan Goreng (± 2kg)
3pm Pisang goreng
7pm Vegetable / Asam pedas crab (4kg)
DAY 2 - 8am Roti gardenia, hot dog 40pcs, fried egg (1 each), cucumber and tomato
1pm Chicken Soup / Ikan Goreng
3pm Pisang goreng
7pm Vegetable / Curry chicken
DAY 3 - 8am French toast
10am Maggie mee / mantis prawn
Hot drink – coffee 3-in-1 n tea bag, DIY with hot water in jar
(Note: Mid night supper excluded, pls buy your own)

So this trip cover total mileage of sailing 115NM, from jetty to HMSM, then P. Jarak, P. Sembilan back to jetty are 99NM. 115NM – 99NM = 16NM, so this 16NM is the distance of drift jigging and change spot. Let’s say only 5NM is the total distance of drift jigging cover area, with drifting speed less than 1NM due to dead current, how many times need to cover this distance and how many time left I can park the boat next to Island and sleep all time except for the 1st night? Don’t forget when there is strong wind and big wave during night time, I have to stay alert for watch out although we are seeking shelter behind island as there are other big trawling boat park there also. Sometimes park too close will be hit by them and the boat will go too near to rocks and island area too. I have no chance to sleep at all as this continue till morning. If this happen, normally I will request to start a bit late around 9am so I can rest for 2 hours. So? Do you think all I care is park the boat by island and sleep even during day time?

As boat captain, I have to take care the safety of all on board my boat. It is my responsibility. When there is 2 meter white cap out there, how to drift jig on this kind of condition? Maybe you can because you are the champion angler and weekend boat skipper, but how about the others on board? Specially new beginners, while they can’t walk, stand or anything except hide inside cabin, vomit, knock out, sleep 2 day 2 night no eating anything? How if someone fell overboard? I am the one to have to answer for all incidents happen on boat. So I request please think for others, you are super but not everyone same like you. I have to make decision according to situation, if this make you unhappy and not what you expected, I felt sorry about this. So after long story, I stop here. I want to apologize and say sorry again to those unhappy because of my service. Happy fishing!

Apa kit buat dan cakap, Tuhan melihat diatas!!

Ah Ho,

No problem. Your apologetic words are not necessary at all.
Overall I score you and your boat above other professional fishing charters.
Do keep up the good works. Cheers…!

Been away for some time (caught up with the Battle of the Century [:D]), just noticed this tread.

Do agree that Ah Ho at times can be quite sarcastic, time of the month may be, lack of sleep, too much work , oh well may be due too many some stupid questions asked [:P]. That’s Ah Ho, straight forward, too straight sometimes, should learn to be more diplomatic. Many times get offended but generally speaking, I can accept that as long as he talks sense and not tok kok. As anglers the main thing we expect is tekong doing his work ie try his best to find productive spots. As long as he has achieved that, the rest (food, cleaniness, facilities etc) is a bonus to us. How to compare to overseas charters, with the amount that you are paying, sharing some more with so many people?

Refer to another case with other charters, deckhands compete with anglers later selling back the catches, that we should abhor. Not a problem for tekong or deckhand to fish as long as there is sufficient space. Encoutered few times deckhand taken up paid-fishos spot (especially for popping), that we should charge back to the tekong. Or another case tekong parked the boat nicely just for himself and deckhand (and even unpaid friends) to fish, paid anglers at the back got nothing while deckhands and tekong at the front keep landing fishes. Anglers should speak up during the trip to the tekong and not thereafter in MFN. If continue without action, yes that will be the last time you see me joining that charter. Probably becoming dumb and dumber if carrying on joining them.

This is the first time in MFN history tekong responsed to complains with an apology if not mistaken. That we must acknowledge with respect. Yes, people do made mistakes sometimes and apologise. That we call gentleman. Not like some doggies in the political scenes mistakens after mistakens still tidak apa attitude and the end result political tsunami. More to come.

If Ah Ho reading this, personal request is hope you can be more consistent in changing spots(have more good spots) and not depend on who is the organiser/or special client and be less sarcastic. You are not the best in the country but better then many tekongs out there hope you can at least maintain or improve further and set a higher benchmark for the angling society in the country. Wishing you all success!

ps:- ‘If you take care of the tekong the tekong will take care of you and vice versa’

Well another thing to note is imagine you are a captain of an army platoon; we anglers are the foot soldiers. Captain cannot please everyone but make his decision for the good of all in the team and have a common target in mind to achieve. As long as the captain has achieved that, we foot soldiers should not complain too much, unless you are more knowledgeable than the full time captain (that the case time to be your own captain). But we foot soldiers sometimes will appreciate if captain can explain reasons for making such decision, to prevent miscommunication or misunderstanding at least. That said, there are many instances too that some paid customers (not refer to anyone here) do think their money is bigger than anyone else, must guarantee catch, must have 5-star service, must go against mother nature etc with list of other complaints. Who’s right who’s wrong oh well who cares, just go catch some fishes and make your day! [:D]

anglermy,

if what you have updated about Pak Intan is true then i really sad about it. He spent more than 50 years on seas of Pangkor/Sembilan/Jarak since those days when there was no GPS. I used to follow him putting rawai near white rock and P pangkor when I was young.

Can you drop me an email at khaitang@yahoo.com? I wish not to hijack this posting. Thanks

Probably we can book GT CHASER online in future…

Capt Ah Ho,
I am always your friend n will always be your fishing friend. I ve no quarrel with you or otherwise I should have blown it right out on yr face during my recent trip. All I want is an improvement in your service not only for me but to the rest of angling society.Too bad that you know me, but I ve no problem with that.

I ve been fishing with u for so many years since your old wooden boat even though in some cases the catch were poor. As I said, I don’t care of not catching fish as fishing can’t guarantee u fish. If I want fish, I buy in the market. All I care is a good service from the boatman.

Did u ever ask yrself a very simple question why I stop of going fishing with you for over a year whom I used to be yr regular customer? I always tell other people n even my friends from oversea that u are the best skipper with the cleanest boat in town. For a very simple answer, yr service is no longer good like it used to be in those days.

I have no complain about the food. It is still the best compare to any boat operators in Msia.

All I want is the effort from the skipper n not parking the boat all the time, sleep n lazy to move around. We are human, n I don’t ask u to stay awake all the time. I need sleep too.

Did u ever remember my trip over a yr ago? U parked the boat by Jarak Island n seldom move just bcoz u wanted to sleep.U gave the reason that you were too tired n had a non-stop trip. You are not a robot n surely u need some rest at home before taking other group fishing. U are getting greedy at the expense of paid customer.

If the weather really bad, I don’t want to risk myself as well. But our recent trip, only yr boat parked by the island n the rest of commencial fishing boats were out there in the open sea. Was it bad weather ? Did u ever recall that u we’re lazy to even release yr anchor line closer to pinacle ? The weather was not bad, n even casting my 120gm popper can’t reach the pinacle. If we had asked once but no response, we felt piss-off.

If u think I have bad hidden agenda with u, just give me one good reason why should I go against you ? Afterall, I didn’t get a cent richer or poorer by posting in this forum. All I want is u to realize the downhill of yr service. Bear in mind that we are a paid customer n deserve a decent service from you.

With this forum, I am sure that u will improve yr service from now on just to proof yr point to other anglers but at the expense of our frienship.I don’t mind of doing it just to speak out for the sake of other anglers.

No heart feeling, and we are always fishing friend. Just be honest n hope for an improvement in year service.

P.S Ang Kong can also see what u do in your life up there.

KK:

I think we need appreciate what so ever no matter is good or bad…I am sure even have some bad experience with the ah pek, I am sure there are something will always stick in your mind…rite?

a) Boat cleanness ?5/5
b) Boat facility ?4/5 (refer to toilet, cabin spaciousness etc.)
c) Bottom fishing facility ?2.5/5 (no 12V dc on-board supply is the drawback, quantity and separation of rod holder is acceptable)
d) Jigging / popping fishing facility ?4/5 (no grip rail at the back)
e) Electronic Facility ?5/5 (he got redundant electronics in place. I don’t really like his sounder but a sounder is a sounder)
f) Safety facility ?4/5
g) Boat speed ?4/5 (for a wood-make 60++ ft. fishing boat that is)
h) Skipper attitude and friendliness ?3.5/5
i) Spot changing (jigging) ?4/5
j) Spot changing (bottom) ??/5 (can’t complain much as ours supposed to be a pure jigging/popping trip)
k) Food & Cooks ?3.5/5
l) Punctuality ?5/5

?) Charge ?3/5 (I will take this out. Hey, we always hope they charge cheaper, don’t we? Hahaha?

Last minute trip cancellation? Are we not familiar with it? I experienced 2 cases from Lumut charter and 1 case from Sg Besar within last 2 years. Am I unfortunate? Hahaha?

Have you been to a boat without shore radio and you have hydraulic system breakdown on middle of Malacca strait? I guess you have to experience the worst to appreciate the least.

Cheers!

Hello and hope all is well. Recently I received another letter from Ah Ho and also sms asking me to post his final reply on this topic. I said ok and here is his reply.

Dear roy64@Alfi Ahmxd 640516-X2-5XX9,

Since I started my charter service, when I end a fishing trip, I will wash my boat, fill up the water and fuel, food and have a night rest at home. Than the next day only will start another trip. I never do like some other charter did, came back to jetty, unload the anglers, fill in another group of anglers and continue a trip.

On recent trip, those fishing boat parking far away from Island are Pukat Jerut / Sportlight Boat, they have to park that far because not allowed to put net close to Island. They are fisherman, 2-3 meter of wave for them are “sup-sup sui”, they have no choice because “cari makan”. Look like you are more expert on Jarak water although you are fishing once a year, what a waste you are not a charter’s captain.
To the boat at pinnacle, we need right tide and wind. Do you know how far I need to release anchor ropes to reach pinnacle? Almost 200 meter from the place I drop anchor, with that length of ropes, do you think it was easy like parking a car into your house carpark? If wind against the current, release anchor rope will have no result. Unless we use coral reef ancor, drop it right on top of coral, but this will destroy the corals. Imagine, 1 year how many times I have to drop anchor to park at pinnacle, this will flatten the reef area. That is why I force myself to use mud anchor without fastening a safety line, so I have to be extremely careful to drop anchor outside reef area.
I remember that night I park quiet close to Island, hopefully can do some light jiggin and poppin, I have to make sure the boat do not hit the under water rocks when suddenly change direction of wind or tide. Do you think I can sleep on this situation?

I know you have been fishing with me many years, from bottom fishing later slowly switch to jiggin and popping 2 – 3 years ago. Thats why I truly know your style, armed with branded / expensive tackles will not guarantee you good catch. When other anglers have better catch than you, especially new beginner, your face will turn darker than sotong ink. You are not fishing for fish, but for “muka”, I think the “banyak mahu” type.

Fishing one time at Australia and Maldive, be a champion team of last year sailfish competition not guarantee you will be a hero for every trip. But you really enjoy when people call you “Mr Champion” right? Sometimes you catch more fish then others, sometimes others will catch more fish than you, that is all part of fishing.

I suggest you look at yourself in the mirror and ask, why your fishing friends are getting lesser and lesser? They pull out when you are in? Only the new beginners willing to join you? Even the year during the Maldive trip, I heard they rather organize a new trip when they knew you are joining. Why this happen? Please wake up, you and me are same age, already 44 years old, don’t think you are still 14 ok?

Nobody will like or need this kind of friend because friend will not put sand into his friend’s rice bowl. You can talk or call to complain to me, but the way you do this is trying to destroy my career. Is this really called friends? Anybody need this type of friend, please have it.

Who is the boss when out in the sea? Definitely mother nature is the big boss. When she is co-operative, then come second boss call fish willing to take your offer after you present your bait or lure. So who is the boss when fishing? You or me?
This will be my last letter and I will not look at this topic again. I feel fed-up and don’t want to waste my time argue with you, Mr Alfi Ahxxd @ Mr Champion.

PS: Tuhan n Ang Kong both are looking from the top, that’s why I pray everyday. Sembahyang tak? True is true!!

PS: To Ijam and Belukang .. still haven’t receive any reply from both of you. Apa sudah jadi? They are other charter boats operating around bagan dato area. Please don’t assume if you board a boat in bagan dato it is surely my GT Chaser. Hope you can make sure the boat registration is ATA00911P ok?

Thank you to all those who understood my message and happy fishing to all of you.

Ah Ho – GT Chaser 15/04/2008

I hope I am not misunderstood for trying to flare things up. Sorry to brother roy64 if you feel upset for me reply on this topic but I have no ill intentions. I am merely helping Ah Ho to reply to the forum.

My last comment is in life there are bound to be arguements and unhappy feelings. But true friends should work to resolve misunderstandings and forget the pass. We are all fishing buddies so let’s enjoy your fishing trips. [:D][:D]

Ah Ho,
I have said enough n no point af arguing with u.Just ask yrself, why should people complain if your service is good ? I m not to only person complaint about your service but there are many more.Sorry to say that.

I am still believe u will improve your service at the expense of my complains. I didn’t get any single cents for this effort.

wow..this is really happening forum dudes…whatever is it hope all of us are happy when we go out to fish wether with good catch or less as long safely reach home…anyway kita hanya menduga..Tuhan yang menentukan…
I wish all the boatman should drop by such forum to realise wats going on & hw is their service & feedback from anglers..it sppose to be a WIN WIN SITUATION without any ill intentions!!!HAPPY FIAHING DUDES

What past is past brothers…
I used to be silent and ‘READ only’ type of viewer before, but at last i think i should say something…
