abang alpocot,
next i can follow u go fishing ka?
Ikanbulan,
I also jeles with your tarpon and ladyfish la. CDC Elk is one simple dry fly to tie and very effective, in fact the only dry fly I used. Don’t leave home without it. The dry fly you bought is the set of many pattern right? If that’s the one, I bought it almost 10 years ago and still keep it, never used it, just for the memory.
EG, that why first I thought it was tengas batang but when I looked at the lips, it rather big.
Tan Jien Sheng,
Because I was using 3wt glass rod and the fish caught at the rapid, it feel like monster. The sikang I caught at slow moving water, but the best thing about Sikang that size, they jump like trout. But I will say Sikang is better because they will run at different angel. But I can’t really tell about kelah, if that’s indeed kelah, it’s my first.
But if I compare kelah that with tengas at the rapid, similar size, tengas is stronger I think.
Bro sualeh & Bro alpocot…
Nice fish…

Bro FIR3TIG3R…
Nice fish, always practice catch and release, but release in the aquarium la… Hahaha…
Cheers,
[:D][:D][:D]
bro razor,
thanks for your concern, i do catch and release almost all the time, if not always. however i’m an avid aquarist as well, and have an affinity for local species, especially those endemic to penang island. have released ALL of my local aquarium fishes when they do not fit my tanks, like sebarau, tarpon, haruan back to the wild. i am strictly against release of aliens into our waters, they are works of irresponsible people who are trying to have a clear conscience by not taking a life [:P]
well, this place is about 5 mins from my house, and i am able to transport the fishes back to my aquarium in a jiffy, with an aerator at hand, a bucket of fresh streamwater. well taken care of at home. i actually care a lot for the fishes, would be sad to see them ending up as dinner for the foreign workers around here [:D]
hmmmmm…just wondering how many here would actually release sebaraus & haruans back into the wild, and not end up on their dining plate, defies convention [:D]…especially when there are people who go to great lengths for jungle trips and tapau everything into their iceboxes including tiny juveniles for FOOD (some forummer previously kena whack from me in gen. discussion)
as an ending note, pls kill alien species if u cannot take care for them any more.

Bro FIR3TIG3R..
Lucky for you la bro can fish 5 minit away from your house.. Me live in K.L got no place to fish la, want to practice fly casting also have to go the field that is 5 minit away also.. If got a pond near my house sure can practice there, who know’s silap2 boleh dapat ikan… hehehe..
I thought u ‘King of Poison’, wah now i know you also whack people la.. Dangerous!!!
Anyway sorry to hijack this topic a bit all you guys…
Cheers,
[:D][:D][:D]
bro,
hahhaha…situation not much different in penang either…once a place is known to hold fish, then habis. there are few spots where i fish with close friends, where we fish n release for many years…until it becomes known, then kering kontang.
strictly speaking, better to learn fly casting without the presence of fish. if not, kena distracted hehehehe…swimming pool would be a great place to practice(apartment pools after closed/early in the morning)

Bro FT, u put tarpon in your aquarium ka? can they survive? because a caught a lot of tarpon in my place… i tried to bring them home and when put into aquarium they cannot survive. this tarpon is a freshwater one…the hook only penetrate the lower jaw and no other injury. due to this failure i don’t want to put them in aquarium anymore although there are freshwater tarpon up to 1.5kg in my hometown. saturday evening went to sg. oceng with my friend bigbait for tarpon…went there a bit late but still got around 6 tarpons in an hour.
for tarpons…it’s crucial not to let them touch the ground if u are intending to bring them back. always use barbless hooks. my aquarium is full freshwater(tap water, de-chlorinated, neutral pH) .make sure u have a big bucket/pail with cover & aerator during transport… also, put in some big leaves in the bucket to prevent them from jumping around too much. drive really slwo to reduce turbulence in the pailpreviously the ones i brought back were only 6 inches long, kept till almost 750gms(1 kati plus) then released again.
well, the ones i caught are from heavily polluted drains…very hardy fish. one common problem would be white spots, mucous membrane peeling from the skin. check the pH of the water, and also hardness of the water. ideally, softer water is good. neutral would be better than acidic or alkaline… that’s just my experience

this i have to agree with u bro…last time when trying to cast at cws (near the swimming pool)..at first people are quite familiar with fly fishing there until a group of girls came..closer and closer…i’m sooo distracted that i stop casting for a while…not cuci mata but afraid the girls would get an extra ‘earings’ or ‘accessories’ if i keep on casting…luckily they only stayed a while a went back to the hall.
FT,
Those tengas are said to be endemic to penang: Neolissochilus hendersonii. A dna study have been done by singaporian uni; they did publish papers on this. I don’t have that paper. Other Neolissochilus on mainland would be the N. hexagonolepis (spelling!!) and N. soroides.
