Rods opinion - Lemax Black Rose

wah. happy la… “rod bent almost double” and “1000 series shimano screaming away”!

see… i told u the black rose wouldn’t be knocked-out so easily.

now, chris… time to take it to tf. heard a lot of big ones transferred to the main pond. ppl lifting up 6.8kg rohu n all. got test the black rose on big lunkers like their pacu, patin n rohu… see how it holds up…

or maybe u’ll get lucky n hook up the elusive tapah, that even all the regulars are wondering how to get. hehe.
let us now yah…

i kinda keeping an eye on this thread for updates. might wanna get a black rose of my own.

Hi Nyamaoan,

I probably won’t be in TF for a while yet (all annual leaves frozen for Dec [:(!]), but i can tell you now, go ahead & buy the black rose. Its worth it. Just remember to pair it up with a really light reel & it feels perfect. If the reel is too heavy or large, it’s very unbalanced. Getting one in TackleBox shouldn’t cost you more than 130-140, after nego.

Light rods should be paired with light/small reel to maximise the fun and fear factor. Fun factor = getting a big fish on such fragile outfit. Fear factor = line about to snap, reels shrieking away, rod bending at extreme angles.</font id=“purple”>

My apologies to Nyamoan and anyone else who may have purchase the Black Rose on account of my review. The damn thing BROKE ON ME. Remember the 3.5kg Patin the Black Rose was battling the other day, well after that I gave the rod a short rest, and last weekend I took it out again to use. I was threading the line thru the rings when I detected a soft spot. I applied a bit of pressure & the rod came apart! So it looks like the Black Rose did not survive the fight with the Patin after all. It couldn’t have been the way I used the rod as I have caught many 3-6kg Patins on my other light gear before. Now I finally finally believe the stories about Lemax rods…i can’t believe it happened to me. Some pics below:

Err…chris1…your black rose carcass still around? I would like to do a autopsy/postmotem on it la.
Lately. I have heared so many horror stories on Lemax rods that its getting to me now. However I met with Uncle Thomas last weekend, he told me the Lemax President rod is fantastic and really value for money.

Errr…my condolence to you n your demised rod</font id=“green”>

Hi…ya I still got it. Maybe it was just my particular Black Rose. Not all Lemax are like this. I don’t mean to put the Lemax brand in a bad light, I actually still have another one which is a SlimMax 5 feet, it has caught a few 1kg Pacus before but not used much. Maybe the Black Rose that I bought really is a good rod, but not meant to fight a >3kg fish. The Patin can really run, especially at Laguna, so that could’be been the reason. In any case, I am just going to stick to my Abu Conolon for now.

I will b in kl tis wend. Can i collect the BR carcass fm u?

Hi,

I may not be available this weekend. However I will not throw the carcass away, probably keep it for a while. Are you some sort of broken rod investigator from Lemax [:D].

Tackle CSI [:D]

sorry to hear about your rod, man.

WOW!!! Investigator ka? Big name man[:D] No la. I just like to study the weak/fail points of various types of rods be it graphite, composite or what not. Just being curious.
Various material failed for some reason. For example…the higher the IM the more brittle it will be. However this also means lighter, better strenght and more balance. High IM rods needs more tender loving care than other low IM rods.
On the other end of the spectrum, the eglass stuffs are made for abuse. I even whack snakes with them with none or little damages. Very suitable for people who like to strike or lift fish our of the water.
