sorry if i make you misundertand the meaning of “sure catch”, my english is bad.
what I really means the sure catch is when you got a fish taking your bait, you got it hook up properly and bring it back safely. afterall, if you got 100 bites and nothing into your keep net. it is no fun
yes, fishing depends on luck, and some says 90% depends on luck, but the rest 10% is the “know how” to make sure when you got the luck, you dont lose the fish. that is why we are discussing here in MFN. correct?
pocketfreak, use your hand to feel the line, instead of watching the float. Once it is dived, there is nothing you can judge beside using the line. The advantage of using float is your bait would lingering in the water (depends how much length is the leader). Snapper is a fast moving specie compare to Kerapu, use of float during shallow weather non windy day, where the water temperature is lower can increase your chances. SiaKap would usually hunt at the side (note, not at your visual distance), meaning you usually don’t have to cast up to the middle of the pond, and it likes to hang around water pump area. Just like you fish for SiaKap at river/sea junction. But SiaKap is much more expensive in term of cost to S.Lion, so if you can’t get it, doesn’t mean your skill is in doubt.
You also need to learn how S.Lion operate in terms of their fish cost. S.Lion does not release fish based on how many have been caught, they release based on their costing. Note down the number of days when they pour fish into the net (not the pond), you will know the cycle, then you will know what day in a month is the best time to go. Remember, this is commercial pond, not open sea. Theory that work at the pond is UNLIKELY to work at open sea.
Take it easy pal, use your fishing patient to treat disagreement. Of course I read your posting, otherwise am I talking to someone who just want other to agree to? If that is the case, our discussion stop here.
Thanks, Kerapu, for sharing info regarding the fish releasing cycle.
agreed siakap hang around the bank. because I’ve wrote before to suggest lure angler to cast and retrieve the bank before cast to the middle of the pond.
Since I consider both of u all very experienced anglers .
Need to ask this question.
I know that using Vanish leaders in open sea improves the catch rate.
Are you or you know anyone using this leaders ?
Does it improve the catch up rate in saltwater payponds?
Not sure if it helps in pay pond..the fact that water at Sea Lion is basically “invisible” (too dirty!) already [:D]. This product is very expensive, doubt that most S.Lioners would use it.
first, I think both Pete and I are enthusiats in fishing, to sea fish. not sifu.
Vanish line? I dont know really, because I hardly care what kind of leader I am using. I am the believer of “luck” and never got money to use expensive stuff.
a tip though to sea fishing (and pond) is the length of your leader. especially when you use live bait. longer leader present the live bait more naturally than the short leader.
if you ask me how long is enough? I have no clue, I’ve saw people use 10 foot leader in paypond in Taiwan (the pond is deep btw) for grouper. big grouper. I personally use at least 1-1.5 meter.
Yeah..I heard about pond 2 but never try it before. Vanish line is best use in clear water, that’s why it produce better result at open sea. So did you manage to land any fish from pond 2? Tell us about it!
I used normal nylon (80lbs) as leader for pay pond. I used Sufix as leader at open sea.
I usually use 40 -50 lbs leader only . Using the ‘X brand’ line u get for RM1 /20 meter.
Found out that leaders more than 60lbs are to stiff and tend to curl (no offence to all, it’s just a personal preference).
Kerapu, I haven’t have a chance to go to Pond 2 to fish, but from what I see, the water is too clear.
Whether or not the fish is easily spooked by the line, I am not too sure. One thing for sure is that there are many fishes brought up.
Maybe the fishes are not ‘line shy’ after all.
But I still prefer Pond No3. Maybe because there are a lot of cages/long jetty for you to cast your bait near to it.
That’s where your $ value from the product, good leader line like Sufix (example only, don’t quote me [:D]), would not curl easily. Due to the anti-abrasion capability, such line is often stiff..but this shouldn’t be a problem because it is used as leader only. Leader is extremely important while fighting big fish..example a leader usually fall right under the fish’s teeth during the fight/drag.
The Berkley vanish line you mentioned in the early posting is certainly not that cheap…not way! [:D] I think the one pond.3 selling (Japan brand), 90lbs/60m = RM15 (2~3 ringgit more expensive than outside, I believe) is good enough for most pay pond already, and it is soft enough to meet your requirement.
I personally use berkley vanish. pond 2 is not a good idea as the water is still clear. Scientific research has shown that flouroucarbon lines are’invisible’ in water. Probably calculated based on water refractive and reflective indexes and replicated the lines as close as possible. An old angler once asked me ‘Apa bukti ikan tak nampak line ini? Ko ada mata ikan ke?’ Ouch…
Yup, in fact, even if the fish cannot see the line, it cannot see the hook?? Maybe vanish hook come out some day…angler has to wear stealth suite…haha [:D]
Went there last night …
Only got 1 Jenahak . It rained after 11, so it quite spoiled my mood.
Anyway , Groupers were in biting mood last night.
A few were brought up even though it was raining
Can anyone tell me which one is better for fishing at paypond, using float or sinker?
I went to pay pond(angsa, haipro, sealion etc) many many times, but i usually catch only 1 or 2 fish.
Usually when i was there, there were one or two guys there who caught 7-10 fish!I wonder how they managed to do that when most people there catch only 1 or 2.
Are there any sifus out there, willing to share the right fishing techniques?the bait?fishing rig etc?
