has anyone been to any of melaka saltwater paypond???
Yesterday pay Sea Lion a visit, only kena 2 Jenahak after hours. Looking around..very unproductive! Heard was because the pool is undergoing a water recycle from open sea.
Anyway, the second Jenahak weight about 2.5KG fought really hard!

Kerapu,
How long did u fish anyway, before u catch something?
Just curious, because I love fishing at saltwater pond more than any other ponds.I can only imagine how the fishes fight because long time don`t kena fight with those fishes..
2 hours sewa kerusi before the first hit, 1.5 hours later hit the second one, straight chao! Great experience with the second one, fight real tough to a point almost enter the platform pillar, never give up until landed.
Long time ya? It’s time to “release”, sabiki!? [:D]
At last…I got my 1st kerapu at Sea Lion No 3 last Saturday.
I was using a live Belanak and was slowing retrieving my line when there was a strong pull. It was somewhere in middle of the pond and not near the wooden structures
Stopped and opened the line bail but the line didn’t go out.
Already suspected it was a Kerapu.
Closed the bail arm and slowly tightened the line.
When it was already tightened, I used my fingers to ‘kacau’ the line.
Can feel something moving but it didn’t pull.
"Kacau"ed the line again and the fish gave a same reaction.
I made a strike and pumped the rod furiously. Soehow the fight was different than an Ang Choh and weaker.
Anyway, it was netted and weights 3.7 kilo. Not heavy to qualiy for the Jackpot.
Baracuda,
Have you makan the fish? Does it taste good?
Tried few types of fish from pay pond and found that the taste is far far less delicious than wild ones.
Fight wise, it is common that fishes in pay pond fight less harder. Light tackle would probably intensify the fun but the taste part is just couldn’t be changed.
Well, guess that is what we would never get by gaining time in pay pond fishing compare with wide, deep sea fishing huh?
Cheers!

Hey Kerapu,
Which pond were you in?? Pond number 2?
I was fishing in sealion pond number 1 yesterday from 6.15pm to 11.30. Well miserable catch only one fish weighing about 1kg. A white snapper(or don’t know what its called), feeding stopped and no one land fish from 8pm to 11pm. Then fish feeding frenzy started from 11.05pm to 11.20pm. Within 15 minutes i landed my first fish and my sifu who teach me the the the location to cast and the baits to use. My sifu landed 4 fish within 15 minutes. 2 lost cause no proper hook up if not it would’ve been 6 fish for him.

Icecube, I was at pond 3.
Icecube,
Care to share the tips ?

Barra,
Use dead baits such as kembong slices, selar slices, kembong or if you are willing to spend. Buy the prawns and cast for a few times after a few times i don’t think that the prawn will be that fresh. What i did was i peel it of its shell and use the fresh prawn and cast and wallah.. i got my first snapper after about 15 minutes.
I will try that again when i go there again. Hey by the way where is pond 3?? i know that pond 1 and 2 is located side by side but where is pond 3??
Good luck in trying
p/s most of the hook ups are all using dead baits. Try using small hooks so that the fish can swollow it and have a proper hook up.
The hookup that i got if only at the mouth, If i played any longer i would’ve gone home empty handed

What do you mean? There are 4 ponds at Sea Lion arranged at a row. A tips for using prawn: Don’t throw dead prawn away after used, collect up to 4~5 of them, peel off the shell and hook them together over the centre of the prawn. Combine the bait with float. This method is very effective if you happen to land close to Grouper…it will snap it like no body business!

Bro Kerapu,
Sorry i didn’t realise that sealion ponds are all in a row. Well i’ve only been to pond 2 two times and pond 1 once only. So i didn’t know that the pond is actually located all in a row. Bro Kerapu. 1 thing i realise that the fish always eat the prawn bait at the back where the vain is. Always when the prawn is reeled back the vain is gone. Wonder why.

Huh? Usually the prawn head is gone. It is advisable to remove the sharp horn at the prawn head, anyway.
Went to pond 3 yesterday, surprise to see so much less people going there already. Heard the pond is very in-productive. Myself hit 3 loosen 1 in 4 hours, rather small though, all 3 weighted only 4.2KG.
