There is a reason why 80lbs braid with 40lbs rod, the 2 most common places is first the row right after counter (entrance), you basically “place” your bait under the construction, because the water is extended deep under, make it a perfect place for Grouper. Another place is the bridge to the platoon on your right after entrance. There you cast accurately right under the woonden structure, or under the bridge. Sometimes you don’t cast and simply use your hand to throw the bait towards the target. Fishing at such place, you need powerful setup to “pull” the fish away from obstacle then only you start exercising the retrieve action. Best bait for Grouper is sotong, any other will do as well.
See the white board at the entrance (oppostie the counter), it makes your heart beat goes faster. If you are lucky to have fish above 4.2KG (normally), you stand a chance to have your name on it + awards. You will learn the above at pond 3…great fun, but be prepare to empty handed, it’s going to be tough.
Good luck!
Bro Kerapu,
It was a sweet sucess for me last night. Checked in at 9pm with my gf & my other friend(first timer).Started fishing got nibbling after about 20 minutes. Retrieved and cast again then waited and at 9.30 got my first ikan merah about 1 kg, Then it started to rain and everyone is taking shelter under the small “booths” located all around the pond, didn’t get anything until about 10.30 went to tapau something behind the counter and then got a call from my gf that she managed to get a fish. Rushed back there and saw another ikan merah about 1kg as well.
Then my friends rod started nibbling after about 10 minutes, waited for a while and then just strike and retrieve didn’t thought there were any fish cause didn’t feel anything. But then after it was brought up it was another ikan merah 1kg again. Then rain started to subside already and everyone is moving outside the booth.. I realise that most of them cast straight to the pontoon and wait. Then its time to release fish at 11pm. The rows of line starts to retrieve and wait for the “moment” they release the fishes.
Then there is a malay chap who cast when the worker is walking on the bridge from left going to the right, he cast and guess what. The float hits the workers head and you could see the glow in the dark swinging around that worker. Got a laugh of the day.
After everyone went out of the booth after the rain stopped for the 2nd time. I cast and just let my rod lean against the wooden railing and let my the drag loose. Then i saw my rod nibbling and my gf told me “your rod” then she went and grab itt instantly and strike. I took over the rod and tightened the drag setting and start to reel the fish it. Didn’t know what fish cause it just pull away and after a while it gave up, manage to see the fish and its a 2 kg Ang Chor.
So all in all i got 4 fishes (3red snapper and 1 angchor)
“The best feeling is when the fish is nibbling till you see the rod curves but not while waiting for it to nibble”
