Sea Lion Saltwater Pond

Went there (Pond 3) yesterday 3 to 6pm
Not much fish caught by the anglers although they released the fishes twice.
Is it because the fishes are few ??

I also caught nothing … 2 trips in a row already without any catches !!!
Usually i use the Belanak as a bait.
Yesterday I tried live prawn with a small running sinker, no success either ..

Not sure why too…this pond 3 used to be crowded and not so bad in terms of productivity. I must be very lucky!

Guys, dinner at Klang last night and so went to pond 3 jalan-jalan. Guess what, a Malay chap landed a STINGRAY weighted at 10.3KG!!

Whoa must’ve been teh jackpot ray then..

Wah..that malay chap must have been very lucky!BTW I didn’t know there are stingrays there…
I was there last sunday and sunday before that…caught nothing!I moved around the no.3 pond many times, changed to other types of baits but still nothing. Why is sealion releasing small fishes only these days? Why is sealion no longer productive?Anyone has the answers?

I remember the days when I used to catch respectable size and amount of fishes there, but not anymore.I think this must be due to their marketing strategy,u know initially released plenty of large size fishes so that people are attracted to their pond, after they make lots of money, gradually decreased the amount of fishes in the pond. It`s just typical!

Not sure if the fish is getting smaller, but what I heard was fish is normally 1.8KG±, BUT the number of fish release was reduced. Is a fact that it is very difficult to get a good hook nowadays.

i rm52 gone just like that!!..but sometimes i do get a good catches..10:1 ratio..meaning rm52 times 10..you’ll get good catches..hahaha..

FIshing report for 10/10/2005

A wonderful experience for me on that night.

Went to sealion pond no 1 and checked in at 8.14pm. Used Kembong as bait and didn’t get anything yet. Moved somewhere towards the right side of the pontoon and made a cast about 15 metres infront. wait 5 minutes no bites at all. Then retrieve and cast again. Cast to the same location and bites registered about 2 minutes after i cast. As i’s using my finger to feel the line and the bite is strong and saw my line straightened. Gave a hard strike and got a hook up, reeled in and all a sudden no fight and thought i lost the fish actually the fish swim back towards me full speed until i can’t reel back in time. Then managed to reel in all the line after about 3 secs and caught up a nice 1kg siakap on the lip. As soon as i brought it up it got itself loose. Thank God i took it out of the water on time.

Then cast out on the left side of the pontoon. Bites registered after 20minutes. Same thing happened to the first one. Line nibbled a little bit and it straightened. Gave a strike and got a fish on. WAs reeling in the fish and is swam past my friends line and he thought another fish took his bait. He gave a hard strike but then actually my fish went pass his line. Then while reeling in the fish head towards the waterpump and before it could reach the water pump the hook came off. Darn.. lost a fish..

Not long after that made a cast out and waited. Line nibbled and stopped completely. Thought of reeling in to check but then line is heavy then i thought Oh no.. I caught some rubbish down there or caught some one else’s line. Then as i reel in it feels like i got a big rubbish. then as it got close to the bank it looks like a turtle but then i look closely and saw a huge CRAB.. First time in my line i caught a crab on line and hook. Then took it up and don’t know what to do and how to tie. A nice malay chap helped me hold the crab while i took out the hook and also took some rubber band to tie its claws. The crab cost about Rm 30 a kg according to the people there. It weights 600gram and then no catch and nibble at all after that.

Time shows 11.10 and i have another 5 minutes to check out. Saw people loading fish into the nets. went closer to see what fish. Actually the load in about 6 stingrays weighing about 4.5 kg’s average and the biggest one is 9kg. Right after that he released one to the pond and its time for me to check out. Thats all for my report.

Bravo Ice man for getting the crab. You’ve gotta get a picture taken man. So, have you eaten it yet or you’re still contemplating on what to do with it, ha ha!!

Say, I was at pond 1 too but it was last Saturday at about 4.30pm. Rented the chair for 3.5 hrs and bangau! Was using live prawn as I didn’t bring any kembong then. Should have, sigh!! Anyway, if you decide to go again, sms me yeah?!

Thanks Starfish,

Hey you don’t need small hooks but you need very very sharp hooks once you get them just reel em in. I was using hook size 4 i think. Can’t remember what size. But i got lucky cause i caught it by its claw.

Sea Lion 4 is currently undergo a construction, it is going to split into 2 ponds, so in the future we will have pond 4 and 5. The supervisor said that pond 4 will be fish above 2KG - $40 first 3 hours, same with Kuala Selangor setup. Pond 5 is interesting, he said anyone can form a group of max 50 people and pay $5K for 5 hours Grouper ONLY fishing. Meaning this is like booking the whole pond, only the group of people who join can enter, 100 Groupers will be release to the pond for each trip.

However, he didn’t mention if the Grouper is pre-release or just-in-time. Understand that Grouper usually don’t feed right after release.

I got a Grouper few days ago after 4 hours sitting, about 4KG. More to come…[:D]

Kerapu bro,

Indeed i think the nick is the most suitable one for you. Cause most of the time i hear you always get groupers. Well i got my first grouper during my trip to rompin but too bad its only like palm size. Well planning to go to the pond 3 on monday next week. First time at that pond. Any extra tips to hunt for garoupa? Heard from somebody that the setup there is like 80lbs braided and rod 20 - 40 lbs. I was shocked hearing this. Well waiting for your reply and definately waiting for more stories from you.

ice, most of the time is Snapper…Grouper is difficult to get. First, I was lucky. Second, I pick place where Grouper likes to hide, but note that such places is rare on other species. So if I spent time at Grouper area, high chance of hari sewa kerusi..koyak!!

There is a reason why 80lbs braid with 40lbs rod, the 2 most common places is first the row right after counter (entrance), you basically “place” your bait under the construction, because the water is extended deep under, make it a perfect place for Grouper. Another place is the bridge to the platoon on your right after entrance. There you cast accurately right under the woonden structure, or under the bridge. Sometimes you don’t cast and simply use your hand to throw the bait towards the target. Fishing at such place, you need powerful setup to “pull” the fish away from obstacle then only you start exercising the retrieve action. Best bait for Grouper is sotong, any other will do as well.

See the white board at the entrance (oppostie the counter), it makes your heart beat goes faster. If you are lucky to have fish above 4.2KG (normally), you stand a chance to have your name on it + awards. You will learn the above at pond 3…great fun, but be prepare to empty handed, it’s going to be tough.

Good luck!

Bro Kerapu,

It was a sweet sucess for me last night. Checked in at 9pm with my gf & my other friend(first timer).Started fishing got nibbling after about 20 minutes. Retrieved and cast again then waited and at 9.30 got my first ikan merah about 1 kg, Then it started to rain and everyone is taking shelter under the small “booths” located all around the pond, didn’t get anything until about 10.30 went to tapau something behind the counter and then got a call from my gf that she managed to get a fish. Rushed back there and saw another ikan merah about 1kg as well.

Then my friends rod started nibbling after about 10 minutes, waited for a while and then just strike and retrieve didn’t thought there were any fish cause didn’t feel anything. But then after it was brought up it was another ikan merah 1kg again. Then rain started to subside already and everyone is moving outside the booth.. I realise that most of them cast straight to the pontoon and wait. Then its time to release fish at 11pm. The rows of line starts to retrieve and wait for the “moment” they release the fishes.

Then there is a malay chap who cast when the worker is walking on the bridge from left going to the right, he cast and guess what. The float hits the workers head and you could see the glow in the dark swinging around that worker. Got a laugh of the day.

After everyone went out of the booth after the rain stopped for the 2nd time. I cast and just let my rod lean against the wooden railing and let my the drag loose. Then i saw my rod nibbling and my gf told me “your rod” then she went and grab itt instantly and strike. I took over the rod and tightened the drag setting and start to reel the fish it. Didn’t know what fish cause it just pull away and after a while it gave up, manage to see the fish and its a 2 kg Ang Chor.

So all in all i got 4 fishes (3red snapper and 1 angchor)
